Twins signed 1B Justin Huber to a minor league deal.
Huber appeared in one game for the Twins in 2009 before spending a year in Japan. He was once a decent prospect with the bat, but those days are long gone. The 28-year-old will try to win a bench spot in spring training. Fri, Nov 19, 2010 08:08:00 PM

Justin Huber is reportedly on his way to play for the Hiroshima Carp in Japan.

Huber was recently outrighted to Triple-A, but he'll instead pack his bags for Japan. Back in the day, the 27-year old was a decent catching/first base prospect. He hit .273/.355/.482 in 121 games for Rochester during the 2009 season and has been a solid Triple-A contributor for a few years now. It wouldn't surprise us to see Huber establish himself in Japan and return stateside in a few years.

Twins sent first baseman-outfielder Justin Huber outright to Triple-A Rochester.

Once upon a time Huber was a solid catching prospect, but the 27-year-old is now little more than Triple-A depth or a possible bench bat. He hit .273/.355/.482 in 121 games at Triple-A this season.

Twins purchased the contract of outfielder-first baseman Justin Huber from Triple-A Rochester.

Huber, a 27-year-old Australian, hit .273/.354/.483 with 22 home runs and 76 RBI in 439 at-bats this season with Rochester. He can be used as a late-innings power threat, but isn't likely to gain enough playing time for fantasy consideration.

Playing in just his second game of the season, Justin Huber hit a grand slam Friday for Triple-A Rochester.

His previous appearance came Saturday and he homered and doubled then. Huber, who played for Australia in the WBC, has been bothered by hamstring problems since the beginning of the season. Unfortunately, that's nothing new for him, and one gets the feeling that even if he could earn another opportunity to play in the majors, he'd just get hurt again soon thereafter.

Justin Huber went 3-for-5 with a double and scored three of Australia's five runs Wednesday in an 11-9 win over Seattle.

The four, five and six hitters in Australia's lineup combined for 12 hits, with Ben Risinger going 4-for-5 and Brett Roneberg finishing 5-for-5 with six RBI. Not having as much fun was No. 3 batter Chris Snelling, who went 0-for-5 against his old club. On the plus side, he actually survived all nine innings.

Padres sent outfielder Justin Huber outright to Triple-A Portland.

Scott Hairston avoids the DL and Paul McAnulty sticks around. There wasn't going to be any role left for Huber with Chase Headley in the majors. He was hitting .240/.303/.393 in 61 at-bats. It's too small of a sample size to matter much, but he had a 967 OPS in 34 at-bats outside of Petco Park.

Justin Huber (back spasms) is fully healed, according to Padres' manager Bud Black.

Huber left Wednesday's game after feeling pain in his back. He could be in the starting lineup Saturday, though they might choose to hold off one more day.

Justin Huber was used as a pinch-hitter on Thursday and grounded out.

Justin Huber is out of Thursday's lineup after leaving Wednesday's game with back spasms.

"He's fine. He could be available, but it looked as though the spasm last night has quieted down to the point where we could use him today. We'll see," manager Bud Black said. Edgar Gonzalez started in his place on Thursday.

Justin Huber left Wednesday's game after one inning due to back spasms.

Jody Gerut replaced him in left field against the Nationals.

Justin Huber belted a three-run homer off Diamondbacks starter Randy Johnson on Sunday.

He also singled and scored in the outing. Huber has been given some time in left field with the Padres, but he's a defensive liability out there and he'd have to be exceptional at the plate to get more than an occasional start. Fantasy value is unlikely even if we still like his bat.

Padres acquired outfielder Justin Huber from the Royals for a player to be named.

We thought the Royals might be trying to hide Huber, but if that was the case, it didn't work out. The Padres opted to trade for him rather than take the chance that he wouldn't make it to them on waivers. He'll have a roster spot initially with Jim Edmonds likely to go on the DL. After that, the Padres will probably have to choose between him and Paul McAnulty. The odds are against him having fantasy value right off, but he's a talented hitter worthy of a long look.

Justin Huber had a two-run double as a pinch-hitter Tuesday in the Royals' 8-4 win over the Padres.

Huber has barely played lately, probably because the Royals want to increase the chances that he'll clear waivers. He's 9-for-26 with six extra-base hits this spring. He did miss a few days with the flu earlier this month, but if he was getting a legitimate chance, he wouldn't have 15 fewer at-bats than Damon Hollins and Mitch Maier.

Justin Huber went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI to help the Royals beat the Giants 3-1 on Wednesday.

Huber had missed four days with the flu. He's 5-for-7 with a walk this spring. Perhaps he won't make the Royals, but a strong spring could land him on another big-league roster since he's out of options.
