Mariners re-signed OF Brad Nelson to a minor league contract.

Nelson, 27, had a .247/.322/.451 batting line, nine doubles, 15 homers and 45 RBI in 275 at-bats last season for Triple-A Tacoma. He still has some potential but he isn't going to make an impact in the bigs this year.

Mariners signed outfielder Brad Nelson to a minor league contract.

Nelson will report to Triple-A Tacoma. He was outrighted to the minors by the Brewers last week and opted for free agency instead. The 26-year-old outfielder went 0-for-21 with the Brewers, but hit .354 this spring and still has some potential.

Outfielder Brad Nelson has opted for free agency.

Nelson was outrighted to Triple-A by the Brewers on Thursday but had the right to choose free agency and exercised it. He went 0-for-21 to start the season, but hit .354 in spring training and will draw a little interest from other teams. He was a fourth round pick in 2001.

Brewers outrighted Brad Nelson to Triple-A Nashville.

The one-time top prospect went 0-for-21 to start the season and was sent down to clear room for Mat Gamel. Nelson looked like he might finally fulfill his potential after hitting .354 in spring training, but it was not to be.

Brad Nelson capped a four-run ninth inning with a three-run homer Saturday.

Nelson has had a hot spring and solidified a spot as one of the Brewers' key pinch hitting options who could see his way into regular action if injuries strike.

Brad Nelson went 2-for-4 and hit a three-run homer off Kevin Millwood as the Brewers beat the Rangers 7-4 on Friday.

It looks like Nelson will have a spot on the Brewers as a backup corner outfielder and pinch-hitter. He's batting .392/.468/.686 with three homers in 51 at-bats this spring.

Brad Nelson went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBI as the Brewers rolled over the Indians 17-7 on Friday.

In a game in which the rookies led the way, Lorenzo Cain and Mat Gamel also had three RBI for the Brewers. Nelson, who is 6-for-10 with four walks, figured to return to Triple-A to begin the year, but Tony Gwynn Jr.'s injury may have opened the door for him to win a job. It's not like he's such a big part of Milwaukee's plans that he needs to play regularly in Triple-A rather than sparingly on the team's bench. He is 26 after all.

Brad Nelson hit his sixth and seventh homers of the DWL season on Saturday.

Nelson is batting .304/.381/.804 in 17 games. It looks like he'll stick on the Brewers' 40-man roster this winter after making his major league debut in September and serving as a pinch-hitter in the NLDS. Still, he not going to make a lot of sense for Milwaukee's 25-man roster next year.

With Gabe Kapler unavailable, the Brewers will carry Brad Nelson as their 25th man.

Nelson gets the nod over Joe Dillon after going 2-for-7 as a pinch-hitter last month. He'll be the fifth outfielder behind the three starters and Tony Gwynn Jr.

Brewers recalled first baseman Brad Nelson from Triple-A Nashville.

Nelson, once considered a top prospect, will get his first taste of the majors after hitting .286/.380/.480 in his second year in Triple-A. He's cut back on the strikeouts enough to make himself a borderline major leaguer, but since the 30-homer power it once looked like he'd possess never materialized, he'll have few chances to establish himself. The Brewers will use him as a pinch-hitter against right-handers.

Brewers purchased the contract of first baseman Brad Nelson from Triple-A Nashville.

Nelson had a bit better of a year in 2007, hitting .263/.317/.470 with 20 homers in 411 at-bats for Nashville, but he's still not half the prospect he was a few years ago. The Brewers must not have many prospects they're worried about losing if they're going to have him tie up a 40-man roster spot.

Double-A Huntsville's Brad Nelson drove in four runs with a pair of homers on Saturday.

They were just Nelson's seventh and eighth homers in 366 at-bats between Double- and Triple-A this season. Nelson is only 23, but four years after putting up some outstanding numbers in A ball, he appears to be nearly finished as a prospect. He just hasn't been the same since suffering a broken hamate bone in 2003. He's hitting .240/.369/.374 this year.
