Tigers optioned LHP Blaine Hardy to Triple-A Toledo.

Hardy got off to a delayed start this spring because of a scare with his left shoulder. He'll get himself right on the farm and should be back in the Tigers' major league bullpen sometime in April. The 31-year-old southpaw owns a 3.62 ERA in 159 1/3 career innings and has held left-handed hitters to a .231/.297/.356 slash line.

It's a few days ahead of schedule. Hardy came down with some tightness in his left shoulder in late February but has made steady progress since then. He might have a shot to be ready for Opening Day if he can avoid setbacks from here on out.

Blaine Hardy (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session next Tuesday in Tigers camp.

Hardy came down with some tightness in his left shoulder in late February and is easing back into his spring throwing program for fear of making it worse. He still has a chance of being ready for Opening Day, but it's going to be a close call. The 30-year-old southpaw projects to work in a setup role this season for Detroit, as long as he's healthy.

An MRI taken Tuesday on Blaine Hardy's sore left shoulder revealed no structural damage.

Hardy was given a cortisone injection and is aiming to make his Grapefruit League debut within the next couple of days. The lefty reliever still has plenty of time to get properly tuned up for the regular season.

Blaine Hardy (shoulder) will be sidelined until at least Friday.

Hardy missed a scheduled Grapefruit League appearance on Saturday due to tightness in his left shoulder and got an anti-inflammatory injection on Tuesday. This will be something to monitor over the next couple of weeks, though it sounds like the Tigers are optimistic that he will ultimately be fine. Hardy projects to work in a left-handed setup role for Detroit in 2018.

Blaine Hardy missed a scheduled outing Saturday due to tightness in his shoulder.

The Tigers said it was a precaution, and this early in camp there's likely nothing to worry about. Hardy is trying to re-establish himself as a valuable piece of the Tigers' bullpen after a rough 2017 season.

Tigers and LHP Blaine Hardy avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract.

Terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed. The 30-year-old left-hander struggled in 2017, registering a 5.94 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and 28/13 K/BB ratio across 33 1/3 innings. Prior to that though, he had been a dependable left-handed option in the club's bullpen for three seasons.
