Giants optioned OF Daniel Carbonell to Double-A Richmond.

The Giants signed Carbonell out of Cuba for $3.5 million last June and he batted .344/.390/.538 with three homers and seven stolen bases during a 21-game stint in High-A. The switch-hitting outfielder turns 24 later this month. He has a lot of tools and it should be interesting to see how he progresses this year.

Giants signed OF Daniel Carbonell to a four-year, $3.5 million contract; optioned him to Short Season-A Salem-Keizer.

The deal also carries $3.5 million in performance-based bonuses. Carbonell, a multi-tool 23-year-old outfielder, defected from his native Cuba in October 2013. He's a switch-hitter with good speed and a big arm. This looks like a smart flier for San Francisco.
