Roberto Perez homered twice Tuesday in the Indians' World Series Game 1 defeat of the Cubs.
The first was a solo shot off Jon Lester in the bottom of the fourth inning that gave Cleveland a 3-0 lead and the second was a three-run blast in the bottom of the eighth that put the game out of reach. Perez, known more for his defense than his bat, finished the night 2-for-4 with four RBI. It was the first two-homer game by a catcher in the World Series since Gary Carter in 1986. Perez slugged just three total home runs during the regular season. Oct 25 - 11:52 PM

Date:

Roberto Perez will start behind the plate and catch Trevor Bauer in Game 1 of the ALDS against the Red Sox on Thursday.

Yan Gomes (hand) completed a remarkable comeback by making the Indians' ALDS roster, but Perez is expected to function as the starting catcher during the series. The full lineup: Carlos Santana DH, Jason Kipnis 2B, Francisco Lindor SS, Mike Napoli 1B, Jose Ramirez 3B, Lonnie Chisenhall RF, Coco Crisp LF, Tyler Naquin CF, Perez C.

Roberto Perez went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBI as the Indians topped the Tigers 7-4 on Monday.

Perez badly needed this. He showed a nice bat in his backup role last year, but he's struggled miserably this season while being asked to step it up in Yan Gomes' absence; he entered the game tonight with a .168/.265/.256 line. If he can keep it going this week, then he should enter the postseason as the clear starter in Cleveland. He's getting the bulk of the playing time anyway.
Sep 26 - 11:52 PM

Roberto Perez had a monster day at the plate on Friday, going 4-for-5 with three RBI as the Indians routed the Rangers 12-1 in Arlington.

Perez had been in a serious funk at the plate, entering play on Friday hitting just .105 on the season. He came through with an RBI single in the sixth inning to increase the Tribe's advantage to 6-0 then added a two-run single to cap off the scoring in the ninth. With Yan Gomes sidelined, he'll continue to see the bulk of the work behind the dish for the Indians.
Aug 26 - 11:25 PM

Indians activated C Roberto Perez from the 60-day disabled list.

Perez will replace the injured Yan Gomes (shoulder) on the active roster. The 26-year-old has been sidelined since late April with a thumb injury, but he's back to full health now and will share playing time with Chris Gimenez behind the plate.
Jul 18 - 4:11 PM

Roberto Perez (thumb) will begin a rehab assignment with the Arizona League Indians on Saturday.

He'll then move up to Low-A Lake County next week. Perez, who is working his way back from thumb surgery, should be ready for activation at the start of the second half if all goes well.
Jul 8 - 9:27 AM

Roberto Perez (thumb) could begin a rehab assignment this weekend.

Perez would be used in the designated hitter spot initially before eventually catching some games. Out since late April with a thumb injury, Perez could make it back before the All-Star break.
Jun 30 - 10:02 AM

Indians transferred C Roberto Perez to the 60-day disabled list.

Perez had surgery earlier this month to repair an avulsion fracture and ulnar collateral ligament tear in his right thumb, an injury that's expected to keep him out 8-12 weeks. The move allows the club to add Michael Martinez to its 40-man roster and has little effect on Perez' timeline.
May 14 - 11:41 AM

Roberto Perez will be sidelined for 8-12 weeks after having surgery Friday to repair an avulsion fracture and ulnar collateral ligament tear in his right thumb.

The procedure was more invasive than initially thought, although it appears the Indians will get Perez back in the second half. Adam Moore will back up Yan Gomes until then.
May 6 - 2:18 PM

Roberto Perez will undergo surgery to repair his broken right thumb on Friday.

The Indians will have a better idea of his recovery timeline after the surgery. Regardless, Perez will be facing a lengthy absence. Adam Moore will continue to fill in as Yan Gomes' backup.
May 5 - 4:36 PM

Roberto Perez will have his right thumb re-examined by Dr. Thomas Graham on Thursday.

Perez was placed on the disabled list over the weekend with a fractured right thumb. Surgery hasn't been ruled out as a possibility. Adam Moore will continue to serve as Yan Gomes' backup.
May 3 - 3:03 PM

Indians placed C Roberto Perez on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right thumb.

It's unclear at this point how long he'll be sidelined, but obviously it will be a while. Adam Moore is up to serve as Yan Gomes' backup.
May 1 - 1:17 PM

Roberto Perez has been cleared of a concussion.

Perez had to be run through MLB's concussion protocol after taking a hard foul tip off his mask on Saturday. He passed just in time for Monday's opener, and then it got postponed by frigid conditions in Cleveland. Perez will be on the Indians' bench Tuesday for the make-up game, with Yan Gomes catching Corey Kluber.
Apr 4 - 4:03 PM

Indians manager Terry Francona said he expects MLB to clear Roberto Perez of a concussion.

Perez was officially entered into MLB's concussion protocol Sunday after taking a foul tip off his mask on Saturday, but it sounds like he's symptom-free. Yan Gomes is starting at catcher for the Indians on Opening Day against David Price. Perez will be available off the bench if he's cleared before the 4:10 p.m. ET first pitch.
Apr 4 - 1:18 PM

Roberto Perez is going through Major League Baseball's concussion protocol.

He took a foul tip in the mask during Saturday's game. If Perez isn't cleared, the Indians will add Adam Moore from Triple-A Columbus to serve as Yan Gomes' backup.
