Roberto Perez swatted a solo home run on Monday in the Indians' loss to the Yankees.
His opposite-field shot off of Luis Severino in the fifth inning made things interesting as it cut the Yankees' lead to 5-3, but that's all the Indians could do and the Yanks tacked on a couple more runs. A career .216/.309/.362 hitter during regular season play, Perez now has gone deep four times in 18 postseason games. Oct 9 - 11:04 PM

Roberto Perez is back in the lineup on Wednesday for the Indians' game against the Angels.

Perez has been outstanding with the bat in September, with a 1.111 OPS in the month. Yan Gomes gets another day off, and if Perez stays hot, it will be interesting to see how Cleveland handles the playing time between the two catchers. It's tough to believe in Perez's bat going forward, and this is a very small sample size. This is still a situation worth monitoring, however.
Sep 20 - 7:09 PM

Roberto Perez finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 6-3 road win against the Angels.

Perez plays rather sparingly, but when he gets his opportunity he makes the most of it. He is 11-for-35 (.314) with three doubles, four homers and 10 RBI in 12 games in the month of September. Despite the hot hitting he is still nothing more than a low-end No. 2 catcher in deeper AL-only formats due to his sporadic at-bats.
Sep 20 - 3:02 AM

Roberto Perez launched a go-ahead solo homer in the seventh inning of Sunday's victory over the Orioles.

The Indians jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, but that was the extent of the game's scoring until the Orioles tied it up in the top half of the sixth. Perez wasted no time in the bottom half of the frame, tagging Jeremy Hellickson for the solo shot to put the Tribe ahead to stay. He finished the night 1-for-2 plus a walk and is now slashing .217/.303/.364 with five homers and 34 RBI on the year.
Sep 10 - 11:18 PM

Roberto Perez homered and drove in three runs on Friday, powering the Indians to a 10-0 victory over the Tigers and a sweep of their doubleheader.

Perez came through with two-run single during a three-run uprising in the fourth inning then crushed a solo homer that started a five-run sixth inning. He finished the evening 2-for-5 and is now hitting .211/.298/.337 with four long balls and 29 RBI on the season.
Sep 1 - 11:04 PM

Roberto Perez launched a two-run home run in Saturday's win over the Royals.

The Indians could get nothing going against Jason Hammel through five innings -- quite literally, as they didn't have a single baserunner -- but Perez followed a one-out Bradley Zimmer single with a blast over the center field wall. Perez has been one of the worst hitters in baseball this season (.199/.292/.314), but he has a couple dingers and nine RBI over his last four contests.
Aug 26 - 10:29 PM

Roberto Perez went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Thursday's win over the Red Sox.

Perez got the party started with an RBI single in the third inning, the first of 13 runs the Tribe would score before it was all said and done. He tacked on an RBI double in the sixth. The 28-year-old has been used sparingly but effectively of late, as he's got multiple RBI in each of his last three games played. Even so, it's been a year to forget at the dish for Perez, who's hitting just .195/.286/.292 overall.
Aug 25 - 12:34 AM

Roberto Perez homered in the bottom of the second inning and helped the Indians earn a 5-4 walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth Monday night against the Red Sox.

Perez got Cleveland on the board with a three-run blast off Red Sox starter Eduardo Rodriguez and later drove in the winning run on a sacrifice bunt that was botched by Red Sox infielder Brock Holt. The 28-year-old backup catcher is slashing .180/.271/.273 with two home runs and 22 RBI in 50 games this season.
Aug 21 - 11:08 PM

Roberto Perez went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI against the Mariners on Sunday.

This rates as the best offensive game by an Indians catcher this year. Perez had been hitting .115/.143/.115 in 26 at-bats. Starter Yan Gomes is at .176/.276/.275 in 51 at-bats.
Apr 30 - 4:55 PM

Indians signed C Roberto Perez to a four-year contract extension with club options for 2021 and 2022.

He'll receive $9 million guaranteed and just over $21 million if both options are exercised. Perez has batted an underwhelming .220/.318/.355 in the majors to this point, but he draws rave reviews for his defensive work. The Indians now have their top two catchers under team control for a while.
Apr 2 - 1:43 PM

Roberto Perez homered twice Tuesday in the Indians' World Series Game 1 defeat of the Cubs.

The first was a solo shot off Jon Lester in the bottom of the fourth inning that gave Cleveland a 3-0 lead and the second was a three-run blast in the bottom of the eighth that put the game out of reach. Perez, known more for his defense than his bat, finished the night 2-for-4 with four RBI. It was the first two-homer game by a catcher in the World Series since Gary Carter in 1986. Perez slugged just three total home runs during the regular season.

Roberto Perez will start behind the plate and catch Trevor Bauer in Game 1 of the ALDS against the Red Sox on Thursday.

Yan Gomes (hand) completed a remarkable comeback by making the Indians' ALDS roster, but Perez is expected to function as the starting catcher during the series. The full lineup: Carlos Santana DH, Jason Kipnis 2B, Francisco Lindor SS, Mike Napoli 1B, Jose Ramirez 3B, Lonnie Chisenhall RF, Coco Crisp LF, Tyler Naquin CF, Perez C.

Roberto Perez went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBI as the Indians topped the Tigers 7-4 on Monday.

Perez badly needed this. He showed a nice bat in his backup role last year, but he's struggled miserably this season while being asked to step it up in Yan Gomes' absence; he entered the game tonight with a .168/.265/.256 line. If he can keep it going this week, then he should enter the postseason as the clear starter in Cleveland. He's getting the bulk of the playing time anyway.

Roberto Perez had a monster day at the plate on Friday, going 4-for-5 with three RBI as the Indians routed the Rangers 12-1 in Arlington.

Perez had been in a serious funk at the plate, entering play on Friday hitting just .105 on the season. He came through with an RBI single in the sixth inning to increase the Tribe's advantage to 6-0 then added a two-run single to cap off the scoring in the ninth. With Yan Gomes sidelined, he'll continue to see the bulk of the work behind the dish for the Indians.

Indians activated C Roberto Perez from the 60-day disabled list.

Perez will replace the injured Yan Gomes (shoulder) on the active roster. The 26-year-old has been sidelined since late April with a thumb injury, but he's back to full health now and will share playing time with Chris Gimenez behind the plate.
