Indians activated C Roberto Perez from the 60-day disabled list.
Perez will replace the injured Yan Gomes (shoulder) on the active roster. The 26-year-old has been sidelined since late April with a thumb injury, but he's back to full health now and will share playing time with Chris Gimenez behind the plate. Jul 18 - 4:11 PM

Date:

Roberto Perez (thumb) will begin a rehab assignment with the Arizona League Indians on Saturday.

He'll then move up to Low-A Lake County next week. Perez, who is working his way back from thumb surgery, should be ready for activation at the start of the second half if all goes well.
Jul 8 - 9:27 AM

Roberto Perez (thumb) could begin a rehab assignment this weekend.

Perez would be used in the designated hitter spot initially before eventually catching some games. Out since late April with a thumb injury, Perez could make it back before the All-Star break.
Jun 30 - 10:02 AM

Indians transferred C Roberto Perez to the 60-day disabled list.

Perez had surgery earlier this month to repair an avulsion fracture and ulnar collateral ligament tear in his right thumb, an injury that's expected to keep him out 8-12 weeks. The move allows the club to add Michael Martinez to its 40-man roster and has little effect on Perez' timeline.
May 14 - 11:41 AM

Roberto Perez will be sidelined for 8-12 weeks after having surgery Friday to repair an avulsion fracture and ulnar collateral ligament tear in his right thumb.

The procedure was more invasive than initially thought, although it appears the Indians will get Perez back in the second half. Adam Moore will back up Yan Gomes until then.
May 6 - 2:18 PM

Roberto Perez will undergo surgery to repair his broken right thumb on Friday.

The Indians will have a better idea of his recovery timeline after the surgery. Regardless, Perez will be facing a lengthy absence. Adam Moore will continue to fill in as Yan Gomes' backup.
May 5 - 4:36 PM

Roberto Perez will have his right thumb re-examined by Dr. Thomas Graham on Thursday.

Perez was placed on the disabled list over the weekend with a fractured right thumb. Surgery hasn't been ruled out as a possibility. Adam Moore will continue to serve as Yan Gomes' backup.
May 3 - 3:03 PM

Indians placed C Roberto Perez on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right thumb.

It's unclear at this point how long he'll be sidelined, but obviously it will be a while. Adam Moore is up to serve as Yan Gomes' backup.
May 1 - 1:17 PM

Roberto Perez has been cleared of a concussion.

Perez had to be run through MLB's concussion protocol after taking a hard foul tip off his mask on Saturday. He passed just in time for Monday's opener, and then it got postponed by frigid conditions in Cleveland. Perez will be on the Indians' bench Tuesday for the make-up game, with Yan Gomes catching Corey Kluber.
Apr 4 - 4:03 PM

Indians manager Terry Francona said he expects MLB to clear Roberto Perez of a concussion.

Perez was officially entered into MLB's concussion protocol Sunday after taking a foul tip off his mask on Saturday, but it sounds like he's symptom-free. Yan Gomes is starting at catcher for the Indians on Opening Day against David Price. Perez will be available off the bench if he's cleared before the 4:10 p.m. ET first pitch.
Apr 4 - 1:18 PM

Roberto Perez is going through Major League Baseball's concussion protocol.

He took a foul tip in the mask during Saturday's game. If Perez isn't cleared, the Indians will add Adam Moore from Triple-A Columbus to serve as Yan Gomes' backup.
Apr 3 - 3:47 PM

Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the Indians have had several teams inquire about acquiring catcher Roberto Perez.

Pluto notes that the club is very reluctant to deal the 27-year-old backstop. He's a terrific defender and his .751 OPS from last year is well above average for a reserve catcher. Unless the Tribe is seemingly blown away by an offer, they'll keep the catching tandem of Perez and Yan Gomes intact for the 2016 campaign.
Jan 10 - 9:40 PM

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Indians "will listen" to trade offers for Roberto Perez.

Perez had a decent first full season in the majors, batting .228/.348/.402 with seven homers over 226 plate appearances. He'll turn 27 later this month and is more of a backup/platoon option, but the Indians could receive some interest in clubs needing catching depth. They could turn to non-roster invitee Anthony Recker as Yan Gomes' backup if they dealt Perez.

Roberto Perez went 3-for-3 with a homer, a double, a walk and three runs scored to lead the Indians to a 7-5 win over the Royals on Wednesday.

Perez had been in an 0-for-17 slump since his previous three-hit game on April 18. He has hits in just four of his 13 starts this season, but he does have three homers already. He'll remain a viable AL-only catcher until Yan Gomes returns.

Roberto Perez went 3-for-4 with a home run on Saturday, powering the Indians to a 4-2 victory over the Twins in Minnesota.

Perez took Twins starter Phil Hughes deep in the third inning to get the Indians on the board. He's being counted on to pick up the slack offensively with Yan Gomes sidelined and has responded by hitting .300/.318/.600. He's worth a look in two-catcher leagues for as long as he remains the starter.
