Willson Contreras slugged a two-run homer in Friday's loss to the Cardinals.

Jul 21 - 5:42 PM

Willson Contreras launched a three-run home run in Tuesday's 5-1 road victory against the Braves.

It was the only hit of the night for Contreras across four at-bats, although he was able to draw a walk. He is up to 13 homers with 48 RBI while slashing .273/.440/.674. Those numbers easily make him a Top 5 fantasy backstop in most leagues, and his 2.4 WAR ranks him fourth in the majors at his position.
Jul 19 - 3:10 AM

Willson Contreras stayed hot in Sunday's victory over the Orioles, going 4-for-5 with a double and a run scored.

Perhaps there's something to be said about a hitter being comfortable or having an extra level of motivation depending on where they are hitting in the lineup. Contreras is now hitting .372 (16-for-43) with four homers and 10 RBI in 12 games batting cleanup this year.
Jul 16 - 4:57 PM

Willson Contreras went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored against the Orioles on Saturday.

He stroked an RBI double in the sixth inning of the blowout game. Contreras has done a nice job in his first year as the Cubs' primary catcher. He has a .267 batting average with 12 home runs and 45 RBI in 81 games.
Jul 15 - 10:34 PM

Willson Contreras clubbed a three-run homer as the Cubs dispatched of the Orioles on Friday.

Contreras seemingly loves hitting out of the cleanup spot in the lineup and continues to produce whenever he has been given the opportunity to do so. His three-run shot in the first inning gave the Cubs the upper-hand early. That was his lone hit in four at-bats on the night. Contreras is hitting .261/.327/.462 with 12 homers and 44 RBI.
Jul 14 - 11:40 PM

Willson Contreras is not in the Cubs' lineup Friday.

It's a routine day off. Javy Baez is also sitting out, as the Cubs have Victor Caratini at catcher and Ben Zobrist at second base and leading off.
Jul 7 - 10:48 AM

Willson Contreras swatted a solo homer in Thursday's loss to the Brewers.

The Cubs didn't really show up in this one in a big game, but Contreras continues to swing a hot stick. The catcher is batting .313 with six longballs over his last 19 contests.
Jul 6 - 5:42 PM

Willson Contreras is batting leadoff for the Cubs on Wednesday afternoon against the Rays.

It'll be his second time at leadoff in the last nine days. Contreras is slashing .254/.323/.452 with 10 home runs and 40 RBI in 73 games this season for Chicago. Anthony Rizzo will bat third versus Tampa Bay left-hander Blake Snell.
Jul 5 - 10:36 AM

Willson Contreras went 2-for-4 and crunched a two-run bomb but his team lost to the Reds on Saturday.

He hit the dinger with Anthony Rizzo aboard in the third inning and doubled later in the game. His numbers have been slowly improving and he is now up to .253/.320/.453 with 10 homers and 40 RBI in 72 games. He gets a lot of playing time for a catcher, getting bonus starts at first base, third base and outfield this year.
Jul 1 - 7:32 PM

Willson Contreras went 2-for-4 with a homer and a sac bunt Monday as the Cubs edged the Nationals 5-4.

The Cubs were up 1-0 after seven -- courtesy of Contreras's leadoff homer in the first -- and 2-0 after eight before the offenses finally broke out in the ninth. Contreras was making his first ever start in the leadoff spot. It's probably not something he'll have the chance to get used to, but he's a nice DFS option whenever he's penciled in up there.
Jun 26 - 11:54 PM

Willson Contreras will hit leadoff Monday against the Nationals.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon is trying something different with left-hander Gio Gonzalez on the hill for Washington. To his credit, Contreras has been much better against southpaws than against right-handers this season. Anthony Rizzo has been hitting leadoff recently, but he'll slide down to the No. 2 spot on Monday. Daily Slant: Joe Maddon's lineup shuffle bodes well for Contreras and Javier Baez, both of whom find themselves in prime spots at very reasonable price tags across the industry. Tonight's slate features a bevy of high-end SPs despite just six games on the docket, so taking the value with Contreras and Baez makes sense in any format. Contreras has his best hard hit rate during the month of June (36.2%) and also owns his lowest ground-ball rate of the season over that span. Baez has flashed his typical power against LHP, sporting a .283 ISO against southpaws to this point.
Jun 26 - 3:41 PM

Willson Contreras is not in the Cubs' lineup Friday.

He's just getting a day off. Miguel Montero will do the catching.
Jun 23 - 3:01 PM

Willson Contreras belted his sixth home run of the year as the Cubs topped the Padres 3-2 on Monday night in Chicago.

His solo shot off of Clayton Richard tied the score at 2-2 in the seventh inning. He finished the night 1-for-4 and is now hitting .254/.319/.423 with six homers and 32 RBI.
Jun 19 - 11:58 PM

Contreras delivered a run-scoring double that got the Cubs on the board in the first inning then added on a two-run double off of Jameson Taillon in the third. With the three-hit attack, he's slashing .254/.320/.411 with five homers and 31 RBI for the season.
