Gregor Blanco (oblique) played five innings in the outfield and got five at-bats in an extended spring training game on Thursday.
Blanco could play in another game Saturday and figures to be assigned to a minor league affiliate soon. The veteran outfielder should eventually be added to the Diamondbacks' roster as a backup outfielder provided that he's healthy. Apr 21 - 9:39 AM

Gregor Blanco (oblique) resumed a throwing program on Friday.

Blanco strained his right oblique two and a half weeks ago and his recovery has gone a little slower than expected. The veteran outfielder quickly re-signed on a minor league contract with the Diamondbacks after being released and should eventually resurface in the majors as a backup outfielder once he gets healthy.

Diamondbacks re-signed OF Gregor Blanco to a minor league contract.

The Diamondbacks were forced to release Blanco on Monday, but it didn't take the two sides long to hammer out a new agreement. The veteran outfielder has been dealing with an oblique injury in recent days, but he's expected to begin the season with Triple-A Reno. He's useful depth to have around.

Diamondbacks released OF Gregor Blanco.

Blanco has been battling an oblique injury that made him unlikely for the Opening Day roster, and the D'Backs have just decided to cut the veteran outfielder loose. However, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic says the club has interest in re-signing the outfielder if he can't find a big league contract elsewhere. He batted .225/.295/.400 this spring. It shouldn't take Blanco long to find a new gig, although it's possible he'll have to spend some time in the minors.
Mar 27 - 10:00 PM

Gregor Blanco is still considered day-to-day with his oblique injury.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Louvullo said Sunday that Blanco would have to return to Cactus League action in order to be included on the Opening Day roster, so his time is quickly running out. The veteran outfielder was already on the bubble for a roster spot, so his injury came at the worst possible time.
Mar 26 - 4:26 PM

Gregor Blanco indicated that his right side is feeling much improved on Saturday.

He was removed from Thursday's game due to tightness in his side. The 33-year-old has struggled in Cactus League play, hitting just .225 with one stolen base in 40 at-bats. He needs all of the time possible to earn a reserve spot on the club's Opening Day roster.
Mar 25 - 12:00 PM

Gregor Blanco was scratched from Thursday's Cactus League game against the Cubs after experiencing tightness in his right side.

He'll be reevaluated on Friday. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo is calling him day-to-day. The 33-year-old has had a quiet spring, hitting just .225 with two RBI and one steal over 40 Cactus League at-bats. This injury obviously won't help Blanco's chances of making the Opening Day roster.
Mar 23 - 8:22 PM

Gregor Blanco went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and two runs scored in Friday’s Cactus League game against the Mariners.

Blanco, a non-roster invitee, is among the possible alternatives assuming Yasmany Tomas (oblique) needs to begin the season on the disabled list. Jeremy Hazelbaker, who went 0-for-3 on Friday, is also in that mix. Blanco is hitting .242 (8-for-33) with a .718 OPS this spring.
Mar 17 - 9:01 PM

Diamondbacks signed OF Gregor Blanco to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Blanco struggled to find a good landing spot this winter after batting just .224/.309/.311 in 106 games last season with the Giants. Arizona's outfield depth chart is quite crowded, though Blanco does offer more defensive versatility than some of the other options. He'll fight for a backup job in Diamondbacks camp.
Jan 17 - 7:33 PM

Gregor Blanco thanked the Giants organization in a message posted to his personal Instagram page Tuesday.

"Thanks for everything San Francisco this is my home and always will be," read the message, which also included a collage of photographs. The 32-year-old outfielder is due to become a free agent five days after the World Series and it sounds like neither side is anticipating a return. Blanco batted just .224/.309/.311 with one home run and 18 RBI in 106 games this season for the Giants.

Gregor Blanco doubled in a run Saturday in the Giants’ loss to the Cubs in Game 2 of the NLDS.

Blanco had only one at-bat in this one, but he made the most of it. Pinch-hitting for Jeff Samardzija in the third inning, Blanco lofted a double into center field, scoring Joe Panik from second base. It was one of the few highlights for San Francisco as the Giants were outclassed by Cubs pitching for the second night in a row. They’ll have one more chance Monday when the series heads to AT&T Park for Game 3. That game will feature Madison Bumgarner against reigning Cy Young winner Jake Arrieta.

Giants activated OF Gregor Blanco from the 15-day disabled list.

Blanco has been battling a sore right shoulder since mid-August. Even if he isn't fully ready to go, he could be utilized as a pinch-runner and will provide depth on the Giants bench.

Gregor Blanco told reporters Wednesday that his injured right shoulder still hurts.

He is headed to the Giants' spring training complex in Arizona to try to ramp up his rehab activities, but it sounds like the 32-year-old outfielder is still going to be limited for a while. Blanco landed on the disabled list August 23 with a shoulder impingement.

Giants placed OF Gregor Blanco on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder impingement.

Blanco could be facing an extended absence given the unpredictable nature of shoulder injuries. The 32-year-old utility outfielder has batted .225/.310/.313 in 101 games this season for San Francisco.

Gregor Blanco went 2-for-3, drove in a run and stole a base on Friday.

He drove in the Giants' only run of the night with an RBI single in the second inning. The stolen base was his sixth of the season. He is batting .242 in 211 at-bats and is not a good fantasy option unless you play in a deep NL-only league.
