Mark Martin led the first practice for the Sprint Cup Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond International Raceway.

His lap of 126.755 mph in the No. 55 Toyota Camry was the quickest of the 43 cars out on the track for the first practice session. No. 2 Brad Keselowski, No. 18 Kyle Busch, No. 20 Matt Kenseth and No. 11 Brian Vickers were the rest of the top five on the speed chart. No. 52 Brian Keselowski was the slowest.

The Sprint Cup Series doesn’t race in Arkansas so Saturday night’s 500-mile race in Fort Worth is the closest Martin has to a home track. "The track is about 450 miles from Batesville so I’ve had a lot of support at Texas. When I walk by the fence going out to qualify or in driver introductions I hear from them. I know Saturday we have a few hospitality visits and things like that going on. It’s good. The fans are real enthusiastic down there."-Michael Waltrip Racing

Mark Martin will fill in for injured Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin in the No. 11 Toyota Camry next weekend at Martinsville Speedway.

Martin will return to the No. 55 Aaron's Dream Machine Toyota Camry at Texas Motor Speedway on April 13 and resume his previously scheduled run of events with MWR for the remainder of the 2013 NASCAR Sprint cup season. "We wish Denny a speedy recovery" said MWR founder and co-owner Michael Waltrip. "Mark is a big part of our organization and is committed to our sponsors, especially Aaron’s and Toyota. We have a lot of goals yet to reach this year and we are very focused on accomplishing them." As previously announced, Brian Vickers will race MWR’s No. 55 Jet Edge Toyota Camry for MWR at Martinsville.-Michael Waltrip Racing

Mark Martin will drive for Joe Gibbs Racing while Denny Hamlin recovers from a fractured vertebra in his lower back.

Martin's first start in the No. 11 Toyota will be next week at Martinsville Speedway, where he wasn't scheduled to race. Brian Vickers had already been tabbed to drive Martin's car for Michael Waltrip Racing at Martinsville. Hamlin is expected to miss at least five races while he heals. JGR didn't specify how long Martin will be in the car, but the fifth race is at Talladega, a track Martin has opted to skip the last few years.-Associated Press

Mark Martin was at the top of the speed chart in the Happy Hour practice leading to the Sprint Cup Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway.

The No. 55 Toyota Camry driver put up a 183.351 mph lap in the final practice. No. 15 Clint Bowyer, No. 20 Matt Kenseth, No. 48 Jimmie Johnson and No. 2 Brad Keselowski were the rest of the top five and No. 44 Scott Riggs was the slowest of the 42 cars running in this session. Martin also had a 10-lap average speed of 173.423 mph. This was the best of the nine cars running at least 10 consecutive laps.

Mark Martin is sixth in the standings with 95 points; 34 points behind leader Jimmie Johnson.

In the Kobalt Tools 400, Martin stayed in the middle of the pack throughout the race. His 14th-place finish allowed him to move up one place in the standings. This week: In 46 starts at Bristol, he has two wins, 16 top fives, 23 top 10s and nine poles. The No. 55 Toyota Camry driver put up a 134.248 mph lap in the final practice. No. 18 Kyle Busch, No. 2 Brad Keselowski, No. 99 Carl Edwards and No. 15 Clint Bowyer were the rest of the top five and No. 93 Travis Kvapil was the slowest of the 43 cars running in this session.

Mark Martin led the first Saturday practice for the Sprint Cup Subway Fresh Fit 500(k) at Phoenix International Raceway.

He ran a fast lap of 135.450 mph in the No. 55 Toyota and will start on the pole in the race. No. 18 Kyle Busch, No. 15 Clint Bowyer, No. 48 Jimmie Johnson and No. 29 Kevin Harvick rounded out the rest of the top five on the speed chart for this practice. Joe Nemechek in the No. 87 was the slowest.

Mark Martin won the Coors Light Pole Award for the 9th Annual SUBWAY Fresh Fit 500 with a lap of 26.073 seconds, 138.074 mph.

This is the No. 55 Toyota driver's 56th pole in 856 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. It is his first pole and first top-10 start in 2013. This is Martin's third pole in 33 races at Phoenix. His last Phoenix pole came in last year's spring race.

Said Martin: "I think when we get in these cars at Phoenix they are going to stick like glue. These new Gen-6 cars are going to break a lot of track records in 2013 and I think that could start as soon as Friday in Phoenix. We were fortunate enough to win the pole here last year. He’s led 273 laps and won the three poles including the 2010 Daytona 500. Daytona, Homestead, Indianapolis, Pocono and Kentucky are the only active Sprint Cup tracks where Martin has yet to win.
