Steve Wallace secures the last qualifying slot open to teams outside of the top 30 in owner points for the Nationwide Series race.

Officials of Rusty Wallace Racing, LLC (RWR) announced today that the organization will make a return to the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS), campaigning the No. 66 Ford Mustang in a limited 2013 campaign.

At the helm of the No. 66 car will be 25 year-old Steve Wallace. Wallace, a perennial top-ten competitor in NNS competition, scored his third-straight top-ten finish in NNS points in 2011. Backing a portion of the effort will be Charlotte, NC-based mortgage and real estate firm, Richard Tocado Companies. Tocado will serve as primary sponsor of the No. 66 Ford Mustang beginning with the May 2013 NNS event at Charlotte Motor Speedway, with additional events to be named later.

Officials of Rusty Wallace Racing, LLC (RWR) announced today that the team’s on-track activities will be put on temporary hiatus.

The team is currently assisting No. 66 driver, Steve Wallace, in exploring several exciting opportunities for 2012, with backing from his current RWR sponsors. RWR will continue to maintain and manage those sponsor relationships on Wallace’s behalf.

Steve Wallace wins the Mobil 1 Driver of the Race award at Montreal in the Nationwide Series.

The award ($2,000) is given to the winner of the race or the next-highest finishing driver displaying the Mobil 1 decal. He earned the award for his 4th place finish in the Nationwide Series NAPA Auto Parts 200 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The driver of the No. 66 is currently 8th in the 2011 NNS point standings.

Steve Wallace overcame a suspected cut tire and a loose race car to score a seventh-place finish in Saturday's Top Gear 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The event marked his fourth finish of 11th or better in his last five Nationwide Series starts and his first career top-ten finish at Charlotte. The 23-year old wheelman now owns top-ten finishes at 21 of 29 tracks on which he has competed.-Rusty Wallace Racing

In 2009 at Iowa Speedway, Steve Wallace was running in the top-five with less than 15 laps to go when he was collected in an accident.

In 2010, he was running 3rd, when a disastrous pit stop with 40 laps remaining relegated him to 16th for the restart. He mounted a charge over the last 35 laps to finish 6th. The winner of Iowa's inaugural 2006 ARCA event from the pole, Wallace figures once again to be among the favorites to dethrone the Cup Series drivers in the Hawkeye state.-Rusty Wallace Racing

After starting from the 7th position, Steve Wallace not only battled the "Lady in Black," but conserved fuel in the waning laps to score a 5th-place finish.

This marked his 2nd top-five and 4th top-15 in the last four NNS events at the South Carolina track. Wallace's top-five finish in Darlington allowed him finally to crack the top-ten (in the 2011 NNS points) again for the first time in 2011.-Rusty Wallace Racing

Steve Wallace is one of the contenders at Nashville by scoring three top-ten finishes in his last four starts on the Tennessee oval.

He scored his second career Nationwide Series pole position at Nashville's June 2007 event, in what was only the 15th race of his first full NNS season. He started 9th in last year's running of this race-and was well on his way to his 3rd-straight Nashville top-ten-before being collected by an accident in which he would suffer a broken right foot. Although his record at Talladega may not show it, Steve Wallace has become a threat among the Nationwide Series drivers on restrictor-plate tracks recently.

Steve Wallace enters this weekend's event on a streak of two-straight top-tens, three-straight top-15s and four-straight lead-lap finishes in the Spring event at Auto Club. After fighting a lack of drafting partners for the first part of the Daytona 500, Steve Wallace found eventual drafting partner David Gilliland in the second half of the event.

The duo made an impressive march towards the front of the field, storming from outside the top-20 to inside the top-ten with less than 30 laps remaining. Unfortunately, the right front tire failed on Wallace's Camry with approximately 20 laps to go, forcing him to pit road under green flag conditions. Said Wallace: "For us to have a lead-lap top-20 finish at the biggest race of the year--in the first-ever Cup race for either me or the team--it's pretty cool." -Rusty Wallace Racing

Steve Wallace (No. 77 5-Hour Energy Toyota Camry) posted the 39th-fastest speed in qualifying for what will be his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut, the 53rd annual Daytona 500.

His best lap of 49.295 seconds (182.574 MPH) was his fastest lap of the week. With his qualifying result, Wallace will roll off from the outside of row nine in the second of Thursday’s twin 150-mile qualifying races at Daytona International Speedway. By virtue of 2010 owners’ points, the 23-year old is assured of a starting spot in Sunday’s Daytona 500, regardless of his finish in Thursday’s qualifier.-Rusty Wallace Racing

Jason Bowles, who made one Nationwide and three Camping World Truck series starts in 2010, won the crash-filled NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown at Toyota Speedway Saturday night.

Bowels led the final eight laps of the 225-lap race. Nationwide Series driver Steve Wallace was 10th in an event where only 23 of the 40 cars were running at the finish of the race.-SceneDaily.com
