Marcos Ambrose passed Ryan Newman with a couple of laps remaining and surged into 10th. Most importantly, he put enough distance between himself and the desperate driver to remain there until the checkers waved.
That was Ambrose’s second top-10 since the final road course race in Watkins Glen, but even more notably both of those strong runs came in the last four races. He has not been able to string back-to-back top-10s together on many occasions, however, so fantasy owners should not expect much at Homestead. Mon, Nov 10, 2014 09:56:00 AM

Marcos Ambrose finished eighth in the Geico 500. That was his second consecutive plate track top-10 and it came on the heels of a 10th in the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona.

Ambrose has occasionally been strong on plate tracks. Four of 45 career Cup top-10s have come at Talladega and Daytona. He might not be done just yet; Ambrose has also scored top-10s at Martinsville, Texas, and Phoenix in his Cup career, which will end at the close of the 2014 season.

Marcos Ambrose posted the fastest single lap in the second practice session for the Hollywood Casino 400. His top speed was 191.652 mph.

Ambrose probably wishes he had found that relative speed on Friday. He qualified only 22nd for this weekend’s race and has too much traffic to navigate to make him a good value. Last week at Dover, he also showed speed in practice but could not back it up. He finished 26th in the AAA 400.

Marcos Ambrose was not only the fastest non-Chase contender, he logged the fourth-fastest single lap overall in the first practice session for the AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway. His best speed was a lap of 163.436 mph.

Ambrose strung three top-10s together at Dover in 2011 and 2012. His last two efforts on this track ended in 16ths, so he should be considered a solid dark horse if he backs up this speed with a good qualification effort and practice times on Saturday.

Team Penske announced today that it will form a partnership with one of the most successful motorsport teams in Australia to compete in the popular V8 Supercars Championship, beginning in 2015.

DJR Team Penske will compete with Ford Falcons in the 2015 V8 Supercars Championship with a true hero of Australian motorsports behind the wheel. Marcos Ambrose will return to the Series where he drew international acclaim to race the iconic No. 17 Ford for DJR Team Penske. Ambrose is a two-time V8 Supercars champion; winning back-to-back titles in 2003 and 2004. He transitioned to a winning career in NASCAR where he has earned seven wins and eight pole positions while competing in the Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series over the past nine seasons. Ambrose, a native of Launceston, Tasmania, is one of the most successful drivers in the history of the V8 Supercars Championship. At the end of the season, Marcos Ambrose will give up his Richard Petty Motorsports ride and return to his native Australia, according to reports from the track.

The decision was made by Ambrose and is being characterized as "personal." RPM is evaluating drivers to fill the ride, but no timeline has been given for when that decision will be made.

Marcos Ambrose finished 13th in the Quaker State 400 at Kentucky and will attempt to score his second 2014 top-15 on a similarly-configured, 1.5-mile track this week at Chicagoland.

Ambrose will be considered a dark horse to finish that well, but he could surprise the field. Last year he crossed under the checkers 15th in the Geico 400 and finished 11th in his inaugural attempt on this track in 2009.

Marcos Ambrose will seek his third top-10 finish on an unrestricted oval this weekend in the Oral-B USA 500. His two previous strong runs came on the short tracks of Bristol and Martinsville in March.

Ambrose lost a good opportunity to challenge for a victory last week at Bristol. This week, he was fast in practice briefly before struggling in qualification and timing in at 32nd. There are simply too many reasons to leave him in the garage to make him an acceptable value for Atlanta

Marcos Ambrose posted the fifth-fastest single lap in the second practice session for the Pure Michigan 400. His top speed clocked in at 202.891 mph.

Michigan has been one of Ambrose’s best unrestricted, intermediate speedways during his career and he needs a strong run there in order to be considered a dark horse to win at Bristol next week. A victory this week is unlikely, but with the right strategy he should challenge for a top-10.

Marcos Ambrose chased AJ Allmendinger to the finish line and came up one position short of winning the Cheez-it 355k at the Glen. He led 19 laps en route to his second-place finish.

All week the fantasy coverage at predicted the win would come down to these two drivers and they did not disappoint. Ambrose’s near win improves his odds of finishing well in one of the final four regular season races—particularly on the short track of Bristol Motor Speedway.

Sprint Cup regular (No. 9 Ford Fusion) Marcos Ambrose wins the 20th Annual Zippo 200 at The Glen, his fifth victory in 77 NASCAR Nationwide Series races.

This is the No. 09 Stanley Ford Mustang driver's first victory and first top-10 finish in 2014. It is Ambrose's fourth victory and fourth top-10 finish in five NNS races at Watkins Glen International.

Marcos Ambrose posted the second fastest single lap in the final practice session for the Cheez-it 355k at the Glen. His top speed was 128.682 mph, which was only 3/1,000ths of a second slower than AJ Allmendinger’s best time.

Ambrose and Allmendinger should be considered co-favorites to win the pole on Saturday and the race on Sunday. They will be on a majority of rosters and cautious fantasy owners will neither gain nor lose many points if these drivers are activated.

Sprint Cup regular (No. 9 Ford Fusion) Marcos Ambrose tops the speed chart in the Happy Hour practice session for the Nationwide Series Zippo 200 at The Glen at Watkins Glen International.

The No. 09 Stanley Ford Mustang driver ran a fast lap of 123.193 mph. No. 22 Brad Keselowski, No. 12 Joey Logano, No. 62 Brendan Gaughan and No. 54 Kyle Busch round out the top five of the 39 cars out on the track. The No. 10 Toyota driven by Blake Koch was the slowest in the final practice session.

Marcos Ambrose posted the fifth fastest single lap in the first practice session for the Cheez-it 355k at the Glen. His top speed was 126.356 mph.

Ambrose has appeared much more relaxed this weekend than he did at Sonoma and that could spell trouble for the competition. A fast Ford does not hurt his outlook either.

Marcos Ambrose’s perfect streak of top-three finishes literally came crashing to a halt last year at Watkins Glen. He should be able to rebound this week and challenge for victory once more.

The No. 9 team tested at Watkins Glen during the week between Indy and Pocono. They view this as their best chance to win a spot in the Chase and have better odds than anyone else in the field.
