Max Papis wins the Mobil 1 Driver of the Race award at Mid-Ohio in the Nationwide Series.

The award is given to the winner of the race or the next-highest finishing driver displaying the Mobil 1 decal. The driver of the No. 33 Chevrolet Camaro earned the award for his fourth place finish in the Nationwide Series Nationwide Childrens Hospital 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Papis, who made only three of the 22 races so far this season, moved up 12 spots to 41st in the 2013 NNS point standings.

This week's 90-lap event marks the first time the NASCAR Nationwide Series will compete at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Although the Series is new to the 2.4-mile road course, Papis is familiar with racing at Mid-Ohio. The Italian road-course veteran has four starts in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series with one win and one pole award to his credit in 2004. Papis has also competed in eight Champ Car World Series races at the Ohio track with his best start of sixth and best finish of fourth, both coming in 2000.-Richard Childress Racing

Tony Stewart underwent surgery on his right leg early Tuesday morning, Aug. 6 after suffering a broken tibia and fibula in a sprint car crash Monday night at Southern Iowa Speedway.

The surgery served as a preliminary procedure to stabilize and clean the Grade 2 injury. A second surgery will be necessary. In the meantime, he will remain hospitalized for observation. He was leading the 30-lap American Sprint Car Series feature when a lapped car spun in front of him. Stewart hit the lapped car and flipped. Veteran racer Max Papis will serve as the interim driver in the No. 14 Chevrolet at Watkins Glen. NTS Motorsports added road course specialist and veteran Max Papis to their driver line up for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on September 1, 2013.

Sport Clips Haircuts will sponsor his No. 14 Chevrolet for the Chevrolet Silverado 250, as the series makes its first road-course appearance. The Italian born racer brings with him years of road-course racing experience with various starts across the top-ranks of NASCAR, including the NASCAR Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series, Formula 1, CART and Indy Car. This will mark Papis’ first-career start with NTS and the second time this season that NTS Motorsports will unload three trucks for competition. Max Papis, the Italian road-course veteran, has two-career starts in the NASCAR Nationwide Series at Road America.

His best start of second came in 2011 and best finish of fourth came in 2012. Papis has completed 105 of 107 laps attempted (98.1 percent) at the 4.048-mile road course, leading one of them. Papis will pilot chassis No. 095 at Road America. This No. 33 Chevrolet Camaro was previously tested this season at Virginia International Raceway. It was also utilized last year at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, where Brendan Gaughan drove it to an 11th- place finish.-Richard Childress Racing

Veteran road racer Max Papis is scheduled to compete in three NASCAR Nationwide Series races in 2013 under the Richard Childress Racing banner, including two road course races and one oval event, driving the No. 33 Chevrolet Camaro.

The Como, Italy native is scheduled to drive the No. 33 at Iowa Speedway (June 8), Road America (June 22), and Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course (Aug. 17). Papis began his racing career in go-karts as a child. Since then, his skill behind the steering wheel has taken him throughout the world to compete in, among others, NASCAR, Formula 1, Indy Car, and sports car racing, including the 24 Hours of Daytona and 24 Hours of LeMans endurance races and V8 Supercar.-Richard Childress Racing

Max Papis tops the speed chart in the Happy Hour practice session for the Nationwide Series Sargento 200 at Road America.

He ran a fast lap of 109.282 in the No. 33 Chevrolet. No. 18 Michael McDowell, No. 30 Nelson Piquet Jr., No. 22 Jacques Villeneuve and No. 12 Sam Hornish Jr. rounded out the top five of the 36 cars out on the track. The No. 24, driven by Casey Roderick, was the slowest in the final practice session.

This weekend's 50-lap event marks Max Papis' second appearance at the Elkhart Lake, Wis.-based facility.

His lone Nationwide Series start at the 14-turn road course came in 2011 when Papis earned his career-best starting position of second and contended for the win in the late stages of the race when contact from another competitor knocked him off course severely damaging his race car, relegating him to a 23rd-place result. Road-course specialist Max Papis has been tapped to pilot RCR's No. 33 Rheem/Menards Chevrolet when the NASCAR Nationwide Series visits Road America on June 23.

In addition to competing at the 14-turn road course, Papis will serve as a driver coach for fellow RCR teammates, assisting in strengthening their road-course racing skills.Papis, a native of Italy who now resides in North Carolina, has nine road-course races on his Nationwide Series resume with his career best finish of second coming at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in August 2009. Max Papis makes the most improvement in the series after the Camping World Truck Series Coca-Cola 250 at Talladega Superspeedway.

He started 23rd and his 10th place finish was 19 places better than his last NCWTS finish. This earned the No. 9 driver $2,100 and the Featherlite "Most Improved Driver" award. He is currently 18th in the 2011 NCWTS point standings after this event.

Max Papis takes the biggest hit in the point standings after the Camping World Truck Series Lucas Deep Clean 200 at Nashville Superspeedway.

He started the No. 9 Toyota 24th in the lineup. The engine gave up on lap 105 of the 150 lap event. Papis was credited with a 27th place finish. He dropped 3 spots to 15th in the 2011 NCWTS standings. This was the biggest drop among drivers making all 12 races this season.

While this Saturday's event will mark Max Papis' first Nationwide Series start at Road America, it will not be his first time to compete at the 14-turn road course.

The Italian-born driver competed in the Champ Car Series for eight seasons collecting several podium finishes at Road America. He will drive the Kevin Harvick Inc. No. 33 for the second time. He made his first start with the team at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal last season in the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet.
