His lap of 187.285 mph in the No. 79 Ford was 38th fastest in qualifying for the Sprint Cup Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway. He will line up in 43rd at the green flag.

Kelly Bires has made the field for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Lenox Industrial Tools 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

This is the Nationwide Series regular driver's first career Sprint Cup start. He qualified 42nd for Sunday's event with a lap of 128.515 mph in the Go Green Racing No. 79 Ford.

Kelly Bires makes the most improvement in the Nationwide Series after this weekend’s race.

His 8th place finish in the STP 300 was 34 places better than his last NNS finish. This earned the No. 18 driver a $2,400 check and the Featherlite "Most Improved Driver" award. Bires, who made 7 of the 14 NNS starts so far this season, moved up 7 spots to 36th in the 2011 Nationwide Series point standings.

NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Kelly Bires is scheduled to make two starts for Joe Gibbs Racing later this year, according to a news release from the team.

The Mauston, Wis. native will be making his 75th career NASCAR Nationwide Series start and seventh start of 2010. JR Motorsports has released 25-year-old Kelly Bires from his contractual driving duties of the No. 88 Chevrolet.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series regular Jamie McMurray, driver of the No. 1 Bass Pro Shops/McDonalds Chevrolet for Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, has agreed to a deal that puts him in the No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevy for nine races. "We are extremely appreciative of Kelly Bires and wish him the best," Kelley Earnhardt said. In four starts at Bristol Motor Speedway, Kelly Bires earned two top-20 finishes and has one start inside the top five at the concrete oval.

His average start is 19.2 and average finish is 27.0. Bires will be making his third start for JRM this season and fourth overall. His initial 2010 start came in California, where he qualified 32nd and drove to a 7th-place finish.
