Kelly Bires makes the most improvement in the Nationwide Series after this weekend’s race.

His 8th place finish in the STP 300 was 34 places better than his last NNS finish. This earned the No. 18 driver a $2,400 check and the Featherlite "Most Improved Driver" award. Bires, who made 7 of the 14 NNS starts so far this season, moved up 7 spots to 36th in the 2011 Nationwide Series point standings.

The Mauston, Wis. native will be making his 75th career NASCAR Nationwide Series start and seventh start of 2010. In his six previous starts in 2010, Bires has registered one top 10 and four top-15 finishes. JR Motorsports has released 25-year-old Kelly Bires from his contractual driving duties of the No. 88 Chevrolet.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series regular Jamie McMurray, driver of the No. 1 Bass Pro Shops/McDonalds Chevrolet for Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, has agreed to a deal that puts him in the No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevy for nine races. "We are extremely appreciative of Kelly Bires and wish him the best," Kelley Earnhardt said.
