Ruben Garcia Jr. was out front nearly all Sunday at El Dorado Speedway en route to his second career NASCAR Mexico Series victory.
The 19-year-old NASCAR Next driver qualified second in his No. 88 Canel’s/Scotiabank/HDI Toyota for the Coca-Cola Zero 240, which concluded at 232 laps upon reaching the two-hour time limit. Garcia held off a number of late challengers, including championship points leader Irwin Vences. Vences settled for second and remains nine points ahead of Ruben Pardo, who finished third. On May 5th at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, NC, 12 drivers were formally announced as the NASCAR Next Class of 2015, a group of up-and-coming talent that joins the industry program aimed at spotlighting NASCAR’s emerging stars.

Drivers must be between the ages of 15-25, have tangible and expressed goals in eventual competition in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and demonstrate the potential to realize that goal. Each driver in NASCAR Next must be actively competing in a NASCAR touring or weekly series. It's difficult to award a former Rookie of the Year (2012) and championship contender (fourth in the final standings in 2013) as the top breakout performer on the season, but for the second consecutive year, Ruben García Jr. found himself within striking distance of the series championship heading into the final event of the season.

Racing with a new team, the 18-year-old was the runner-up in the championship standings after an accident in the season finale ruined his chance at overtaking Abraham Calderón for the series crown. 18-year-old NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series regular Ruben Garcia Jr. announced that he will return to the NASCAR Nationwide series on Friday, June 27 to participate in the John R. Elliott Hero Campaign 300 at Kentucky Speedway.

García Jr. will run with the Rick Ware Racing Team in what will be his third start with the series. In addition to gaining seat time in a NASCAR national series, García Jr. is also out to show NASCAR officials that he is capable of running at all NASCAR tracks with the series.
