Gray Gaulding and the embattled BK Racing team have scored an average finish of 31.9 in nine races on unrestricted speedways this year.
Gaulding – and this team that is undergoing financial problems – have made every start in an attempt to keep their franchise status. While they have not burned up the track, they are running consistently and should earn positive points in the KC Masterpiece 400 at Kansas Speedway as a result. May 9 - 5:37 PM

Driving for BK Racing, Gray Gaulding has failed to finish his last three attempts on a similarly-configured, 1.5-mile track.

Two of Gaulding’s last three failures to finish on 1.5-milers were due to engine-related issues. There is a strong likelihood that he will retire early from the O'Reilly 500 at Texas Motor Speedway as well, so he should be avoided in favor of a different dark horse.

After failing to finish in back-to-back events at Atlanta Motor Speedway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Gray Gaulding has kept his car running until the end of the past two races.

Gaulding was six to eight laps off the pace at Auto Club Speedway and Ingenuity Sun Media Raceway in the past two weeks, but the team was still running at the end and that allowed them to make up a few positions based on attrition. Last week he was not a very good value, however, because the 13 cars that failed to qualify allowed him to start 20th before losing 12 place-differential points.
Mar 21 - 1:40 PM

Gray Gaulding retired early from the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway and fantasy owners should be prepared for him to do the same thing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

BK Racing is operating this entry with legal issues hanging over their head, but they are concerned about having their charter stripped if they do not make all of the races. For that reason, this team should essentially be considered a start-and-park operation until further notice.

Gray Gaulding ran all 10 similarly-configured, 1.5-mile track races last year and his best effort came with BK Racing—the team he will drive for at Atlanta Motor Speedway in this week’s Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500.

Gaulding finished 27th last May at Charlotte Motor Speedway after starting 32nd, but then he moved into the Premium Motorsports No. 55. With that team, he scored three consecutive results in the 30s before finally getting back to 28th at Kansas Speedway in the fall. He ended the year with a 40th—and a blown engine—with BK Racing at Texas Motor Speedway.
Feb 21 - 11:22 AM

Gray Gaulding has scored one top-30 finish in six Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series starts this year.

His best finish came on the half-mile short track of Martinsville Speedway. That result was notable for another reason. It was only the second time this year that he finished on the lead lap, but it gave him the momentum to go the full distance again at Texas Motor Speedway.

If his record is any indication, Gray Gaulding will finish in the final quarter of the field at Auto Club Speedway.

Gaulding has two previous starts on unrestricted, intermediate speedways. He blew an engine at Atlanta Motor Speedway to finish 37th, but he was running at the end of Las Vegas Motor Speedway and still finished in the mid-30s. He was 34th, seven laps off the pace.

Gray Gaulding will make his third start on a short, flat track this week and hopes to be running at the checkers for the first time in his career on this course type.

Gaulding retired early from last fall’s Martinsville Speedway race with a problem in the rear gear. He parked at Phoenix International Raceway with a broken fuel pump, but these efforts came with the No. 30 entry that often retired early.

Gray Gaulding will join the Rookie of the Year battle at Atlanta Motor Speedway this week, making his third career start.

Gaulding’s two previous attempts do not provide enough data to adequately handicap him because he parked early at both Martinsville Speedway and Phoenix International Raceway last fall. His best finish was a 37th in the Can-Am 500 and with only 38 cars in attendance in the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500, he is likely to finish better this week. He is not recommended for fantasy owners, however.

Gray Gaulding will join the 2017 Rookie of the Year battle at Atlanta Motor Speedway driving the No. 23 BK Racing entry.

Gaulding is ineligible to race in the Daytona 500 because he has not started a race in NASCAR’s premiere series on a track 1.5-miles in length or greater. Gaulding is slated to run every race after the 500, but will give up the number 23 in two events—at Kentucky Speedway in July and Bristol Motor Speedway in August—as Joey Gase joins in a third entry. Gaulding will face stiff competition for the ROTY honors with Erik Jones, Daniel Suarez, and Ty Dillon driving for teams with greater funding.

Circle Sport’s No. 33 and the No. 30 The Motorsports Group/Curtis Key team will merge for 2017 with Pat Tryson as crew chief. A driver has yet to be named.

Speculation on who will drive this entry surrounds Casey Mears or Gray Gaulding as a Rookie of the Year candidate. They will have a charter, and are therefore guaranteed to make all the races, but fantasy owners want to wait and see how they perform in the early stages. The No. 30 could be used on occasion without a chartered entry in high profile events.

Gray Gaulding made three attempts in 2016, qualified for two races, but was not running at the end of any of his efforts.

Gaulding competed in the No. 30 that occasionally parked early in order to conserve resources. In his two starts, he finished 39th and 37th and that means he was never particularly fantasy relevant. The 2017 season will probably not change that opinion.

Gray Gaulding will be the driver who fails to qualify for the Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

If he was your bargain basement dark horse, make certain that he is not on the roster.

Gray Gaulding will attempt to make his third NASCAR Cup series race this week in the No. 30 Motorsports Group entry.

Gaulding debuted on the half-mile Martinsville Speedway and ran again last week on the one-mile Phoenix International Raceway. This will be his biggest test, but first he has to qualify and that could be difficult in a field of 41 cars.

Gray Gaulding will make his second start in the NASCAR Cup series driving the No. 30 Motorsports Group Chevrolet.

Gray debuted in this car two weeks ago on the similarly flat Martinsville Speedway. It was an inauspicious debut in 39th after break a rear gear, so not much more should be expected this week.
