George Brunnhoelzl held off Burt Myers Saturday night and in the process kept alive his hopes for a fifth NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship with his win in the Zooland 150.

Brunnhoelzl edged Myers, who has won three of the last four tour races, for his first win since April at Langley Speedway and 11 overall at Caraway Speedway. JR Bertuccio finished third, followed by Danny Bohn and championship points leader Andy Seuss. Brunnhoelzl cut Seuss' championship points lead from 18 to nine with two races remaining.

George Brunnhoelzl III looked to be the runaway winner in Friday night's NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour Southern Pride 150 at Caraway Speedway in Sophia, NC.

The No. 28 Chevrolet driver started on the pole, led 141 of the first 143 laps, and, with a two-second lead heading into the final 10 laps, a fire erupted under the rear of his car. After being pushed to pit road, Brunnhoelzl was finished due to a failure in the rear end. He was credited with a 12th place DNF but maintains his spot as second in the 2014 NWSMT point standings.

George Brunnhoelzl III backed up his performance in practice by winning his second Coors Light Pole Award of the season during qualifying for the Southern Pride 150 at Caraway Speedway.

Brunnhoelzl finished with a fast lap time of 15.930 seconds (102.825 mph) which gave him the top spot in a NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour race for the first time since March at Southern National Speedway. Andy Seuss, the current points leader and winner of the past four tour races at Caraway, followed in second at 15.994 seconds (102.413 mph). Danny Bohn followed in third (16.001/102.369) with Spencer Davis (16.067/101.948) and Burt Myers (16.082/101.853) completed the top five.

George Brunnhoelzl III led the way during afternoon practice for the Southern Pride 150 with a fast lap time of 16.030 seconds (102.183 mph) at the .455-mile Caraway Speedway located in central North Carolina.

Brunnhoelzl, who shares the record for most NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour wins at the track with Andy Seuss at 10, bested Danny Bohn who finished second at 16.131 seconds (101.544). Seuss followed in third (16.144/101.462) with rookie driver Joe Ryan Osborne (16.231/100.918) and last week's race winner Burt Myers (16.237/100.881) completing the top five. Spencer Davis, Jason Myers, Daniel Speeney, Kyle Ebersole and J.R. Bertuccio rounded out the top 10.
