In 53 previous starts, he has one win, seven top-five and 15 top-10 finishes. Waltrip has led 32 races for a total of 233 laps. Michael Waltrip led the third practice for the Sprint Cup Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway.

He ran a fast lap of 198.347 mph in the No. 26 Toyota Camry. No. 34 David Ragan, No. 14 Tony Stewart, No. 27 Paul Menard and No. 18 Kyle Busch rounded out the rest of the top 5 on the speed chart for this practice. Brian Keselowski in the No. 52 was the slowest of the 42 cars out on the track.

Michael Waltrip, a two-time Daytona 500 champion, will pilot Swan Racing's No. 30 in the 2013 "Great American Race," reuniting him with former crew chief Tony Eury Jr.

The race marks Swan Racing's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut since announcing its new ownership this month. Waltrip qualified for 25 consecutive Daytona 500s between 1987 and 2011 winning his first in 2001 and a second in 2003. In 2002, Waltrip won the July race at Daytona; bringing his total to three NASCAR Sprint Cup Series wins at the "World Center of Racing."

Michael Waltrip Racing owners Rob Kauffman and Michael Waltrip announced today they will race in the 51st annual Rolex 24 at Daytona on Jan. 26-27.

Joining the pair behind the wheel of the Grand Am version of the Ferrari 458 GT that will test in Daytona this weekend will be NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Clint Bowyer and road racing veteran Rui Aguas. The AF Waltrip entry is a joint project of the Italian championship sports car team AF Corse and MWR. AF Waltrip fielded Ferraris for Waltrip and Kauffman at sports car races around the globe since 2010 including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Sebring and last year’s Rolex 24 in Daytona. Bowyer will be the newest member of the AF Waltrip driver lineup that has included Travis Pastrana and Brian Vickers in previous races.-Michael Waltrip Racing

Michael Waltrip, Brian Vickers and Mark Martin will continue to share the driving duties in Michael Waltrip Racing’s No. 55 Toyota in 2013.

MWR announced Friday that Martin will drive in 24 NASCAR Sprint Cup points races, plus the Budweiser Shootout in Daytona and the All-Star race in Charlotte. Waltrip’s three races include the July Daytona race plus both Talladega races. Vickers’ nine races include all the Bristol, Martinsville, New Hampshire and road course events, as well as the Kentucky Speedway race. All three drivers have enjoyed success working with Rodney Childers who will return as crew chief in 2013.-Michael Waltrip Racing

Michael Waltrip has the best 10-lap consecutive average speed in Happy Hour practice for the Sprint Cup Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway.

His average speed of 195.192 mph in the No. 55 Toyota was best of the 11 cars that ran 10 consecutive laps on the track for this final practice session. No. 24 Jeff Gordon, No. 99 Carl Edwards, No. 43 Aric Almirola and No. 42 Juan Pablo Montoya were the rest of the top 5 on this list.

When Michael Waltrip climbs in the No. 55 Toyota at Kentucky Speedway’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race on Saturday night, he and his Aaron’s Dream Machine will sport University of Kentucky colors.

The blue-and-white paint scheme and the Owensboro, Ky. native’s driver’s uniform will pay tribute to UK’s 2012 NCAA National Champion basketball team. "This might be my all-time favorite paint scheme," said Waltrip, a two-time Daytona 500 champion and Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame member. "I’m so proud of all the people in Kentucky for not only their world class race track, but we have the best college basketball team in the country again. Sunday’s Talladega race will be Michael Waltrip’s 767th career start.

He finished ninth in last fall’s race at Talladega. Waltrip owns a win, seven top-five and 15 top-10 finishes in 51 starts at Talladega Superspeedway. He’s led 212 laps. In 2012, Waltrip will race the No. 55 in four points races in 2012 and Mark Martin will drive in 24 races plus the All Star race. Michael Waltrip expects to make his 26th consecutive appearance in Sunday’s Daytona 500.

As the seventh fastest qualifier of the go-or-go-homers last Sunday, he will likely have to race his way into the 500 field. That means he’ll need to finish in the top two of the go-or-go-homers in the first of Thursday’s two 150-mile qualifying races. In 74 point series starts at Daytona in NASCAR’s three top-series, he has captured three wins including two Daytona 500 victories. Hillman Racing and Aaron’s Inc. announced today that two-time Daytona 500 champion Michael Waltrip will drive the No. 40 Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota in the 2012 Daytona 500.

The race will mark Waltrip’s 75th start at Daytona in one of NASCAR’s top three touring series (Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World trucks) – the most of any driver. Aaron’s Chief Operating Officer Ken Butler said the chance to have Waltrip drive the No. 40 and Mark Martin drive MWR’s No. 55 Aaron’s Dream Machines in the Daytona 500 is too good of an opportunity to miss.

The Michael Waltrip Racing car driven by Mark Martin and Michael Waltrip next season will carry the No. 55.

Waltrip has campaigned with the number in recent years, and it also commemorates the year (1955) sponsor Aaron’s was founded. The car previously was No. 00 with David Reutimann as the driver. Martin will drive in 25 events and Waltrip in seven. The driver and sponsor for the other six events will be named at a later date.-SceneDaily.com

Two-time Daytona 500 champion Michael Waltrip will drive the No. 12 TTC Thornton Toyota for Bill McAnally Racing in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race on Aug. 13 at Montana Raceway Park.

"Some of the best racing in NASCAR is in the K&N Series," Waltrip said. "I love racing those cars and I love racing those guys. You have guys racing that are just getting started in their careers and guys who’ve been racing forever like me. This gets me back to the roots of racing. Michael Waltrip Racing and Calvin Wells have mutually agreed to part ways it was announced today by co-owners Rob Kauffman and Michael Waltrip.

The separation is effective immediately. "We want to thank Cal for his strong contribution to getting Michael Waltrip Racing to where it is today. We wish him the very best in his future endeavors, " said Kauffman. Michael Waltrip will celebrate the election of his brother Darrell to the NASCAR Hall of Fame in the July 9 inaugural NSCS race at Kentucky Speedway.

He’ll race an orange and white paint scheme similar to the Terminal Transport car Darrell drove to his first NASCAR Sprint Cup victory at Nashville Speedway in 1975. Michael’s Kentucky paint scheme also includes a photo of the Nashville victory lane celebration on each of the car’s rear quarter panels and a picture of "DW" on the hood also taken at Nashville.-Michael Waltrip Racing
