David Mayhew spent the first 44 laps of the EnergySolutions Utah Grand Prix looking up at the race leaders, but by the time the checkered flag flew at Miller Motorsports Park Saturday, he emerged with his fourth NASCAR K&N Pro Series West victory of the season.

The driver of the No. 17 MMI Racing/Ron's Rear Ends Chevrolet raced around Greg Pursley and rookie James Bickford for the lead in a Lap 44 melee, and held on for his eighth career series victory. It was Mayhew's first win at a road course.

David Mayhew waited until the end to take the top spot on the board in Saturday's practice for the EnergySolutions Utah Grand Prix.

In his second to last lap on the 2.2-mile road course, Mayhew posted the fastest lap in NASCAR K&N Pro Series West practice at Miller Motorsports Park. Mayhew's lap of 1 minute, 34.577 seconds, knocked Greg Pursley off the top of the board. Pursley, who has three wins and a second in the last four races at Miller, had the fastest lap for nearly the entire 1 hour, 45 minute session. Pursley's lap of 1:34.750 (83.588) wound up being second best. He ran just six laps.

David Mayhew leads the first practice for the K&NPS-West Bakersfield 150 at Kern County Raceway in Bakersfield, CA.

A lap of 96.738 mph in the No. 17 Chevrolet was the quickest of the 16 cars out on the track for the first practice session. No. 9 Dylan Lupton, No. 97 Jesse Little, No. 16 Brandon McReynolds and No. 26 Greg Pursley are the rest of the top five on the speed chart. No. 84 Rich DeLong III was the slowest.

Fans might have paid for a seat at Evergreen Speedway (Monroe, Washington) to watch the NAPA Auto Parts/Toyota 150, but no one was seated on the final lap thanks to David Mayhew and Dylan Lupton.

Mayhew brought the fans to their feet as he made a daring pass by Lupton in Turn 4 on the final lap of the race to score his third NASCAR K&N Pro Series West victory of the year Saturday. Mayhew's other two wins this season were at Stockton and Iowa Speedways.

David Mayhew finishes 14th in Saturday night's NASCAR K&N Pro Series-West race at Colorado National Speedway in Dacono, CO.

He started the No. 17 MMI Services/Ron's Rear Ends Chevrolet on the pole for the NAPA Auto Parts/Toyota 150. He led 20 laps but lost the lead to Brandon McReynolds. He continued to contend for the lead until an accident with a lapped car on Lap 81 forced him to pit road. Mayhew returned to the track just before Lap 100, finishing the event in the 14th position. He is currently 4th in the 2014 NASCAR K&N Pro Series-West point standings after this event.

David Mayhew wins the Coors Light Pole award at Colorado National Speedway ahead of the NAPA Auto Parts/Toyota 150 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West event on Saturday night.

The Atascadero, California, native went out second-to-last and turned in a fast lap of 16.829 seconds (79.149 mph) around the .375-mile semi-banked oval. It was the 10th pole award for Mayhew and his second of 2014. Brandon McReynolds was second quickest with a time of 16.891 seconds (78.859). McReynolds turned in the fastest lap of the two practice sessions earlier in the afternoon and was on the provisional pole before Mayhew's qualifying lap.
