NASCAR Canadian Tire Series regular Alex Tagliani will drive the No. 22 Discount Tire Ford Mustang for Team Penske in the Nationwide Children’s Hospital 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on August 15.
A native of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Tagliani competed in two XFINITY Series races for Team Penske in 2014, winning one pole at Road America and posting two top-five finishes. He has made six XFINITY Series starts over the course of his racing career. Alex Tagliani, who hails from nearby Lachenaie, Quebec, posted a fast lap of 96.342 seconds (78.956 mph) Saturday at Circuit ICAR to capture his sixth career Canadian Tire Series pole.

It’s Tagliani’s second pole in three visits to the 2.113-mile airport course. He was the inaugural event’s polesitter in 2011. The Circuit ICAR winner in each of the previous three years, Andrew Ranger qualified on the outside pole for the Ecko Unlimited 100. The Roxton Pond, Quebec, native’s fastest lap Saturday was 96.372 seconds (78.932 mph). On Sunday he will look to extend his own series record for consecutive wins at a track.

Alex Tagliani became the first driver in series history to have the entire field lapped at the finish as he captured the checkered flag in the inaugural Leland Industries 300 presented by Johnsonville in dominant fashion behind the wheel of his No. 18 EpiPen/CGI/CanTourque Chevrolet.

It was the second career series victory for Tagliani, who last won on July 26, 2008 at Edmonton City Centre Airport. This was just the 27th Canadian Tire Series start for the native of Lachenaie, Quebec. Jason Hathaway, last week’s winner at Autodrome Chaudiere, finished a lap down in second with rookie Cayden Lapcevich in third. Scott Steckly was two laps down in fourth with J.F. Dumoulin fifth.
