Ryan Reed and the No. 16 Lilly Diabetes/American Diabetes Association team finished 31st on Saturday at Talladega Superspeedway after leading eight laps and getting caught up in an incident on Lap 83 while running 19th.
Reed started the 113-lap event from the seventh position on Saturday afternoon and had made his way up to the third spot by Lap 10. (Around lap 85), Reed was tagged from behind, sending him spinning into the safer barrier, destroying the right-front. He pitted to repair damage, causing him to lose two laps. As the field saw several cautions before the eventual green-white-checkered, Reed maintained the 31st position, which is where he would finish at the end of the 300-mile race. Roush Fenway Racing (RFR) driver Ryan Reed will make his 80th career NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) start this weekend at Richmond International Raceway (RIR), which was the site of his first NXS start in 2013.

"Richmond will always be special to me because I remember the sights, sounds and how I felt making my first start there three years ago," said Reed. "It’s hard to believe it’s been 79 races since then, but that day will never leave my mind." Reed, who was 19 years old at the time of his first start, ran in the top 10 for the majority of the day, ultimately finishing the race 16th. The second time he returned to RIR, he earned a then career-best ninth-place finish. Now 22 years old and in his third full-time season of NXS competition, the Bakersfield, Calif. native considers RIR one of his favorite tracks.-RFR

The team made their first green-flag stop on Lap 71 from the eighth position. A penalty was given for the way the gas can was handled during the stop, forcing Reed to come down pit road the following lap to serve the penalty. 20 laps later, he had made his way up to 17th position. Following caution on Lap 99, the team took the wave around to get back on the lead lap. After the last pit stop on Lap 115, Reed raced his way back up to the top 15, ultimately finishing 14th. On Lap 42 he reported the car was tight in the center. By Lap 84, he was still experiencing tight conditions. Reed was 12th just past the halfway point of the race. With 75 laps left in the race, he held onto 14th position and told the team he was still experiencing tight conditions. The team made their last pit stop of the day on Lap 177 from the eighth position for fuel only. Reed held his line to bring home a 14th-place finish. The last time the NXS visited LVMS, Reed fought an ill-handling car for most of the day, but avoided several on-track incidents to fight for a top-15 finish. He also has one start in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at LVMS in 2012 where he finished 17th after starting the race in the 18th position. By Lap 23, Reed had made his way up to the 11th position, his highest of the race. He received a speeding penalty on pit road, forcing him to come back down the pit lane and lose a lap. The caution was displayed with 40 to go, allowing him to get a lap back by taking the wave around. Reed restarted 16th on Lap 133 and would improve to 15th in the last 30 laps of the event.
