It took eight tries but Homero Richards finally won his first NASCAR Toyota Series pole of the 2013 season on Saturday at Autódromo Monterrey in qualifying for the Regia 240.

On a day when temperatures in the cars topped 104 degrees, Richards worked his way around the 1.988-mile road course in 71.674 seconds for an average speed of 99.852 mph, earning his 14th series pole. The Mexico City native has never won a race in Monterrey, but hopes to repeat his last performance starting from the pole, a win in the 2012 season finale at Mexico City.-NASCAR.com
