Possibly it was the lure of Salem Speedway. Maybe it's because he finished a solid fifth at Nashville, or it could be the opportunity to race with old friends. More than likely it's all of the above for Brentwood, Tennessee's Mason Mingus whose entry has been received for the ARCA Racing Series Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 coming to Salem Saturday and Sunday, April 29-30.
Mingus, essentially filling in for the recuperating Justin Fontaine, is entered in the No. 33 Win-Tron Racing Toyota. More than likely, Mingus is waking up to the grand ole speedway this morning as the team was penciled in Tuesday for testing. His Win-Tron teammate Gus Dean is also planning to test. AM Racing’s development team Win-Tron Racing announced that ARCA Racing Series veteran Mason Mingus will substitute for Justin Fontaine in Saturday’s Music City 200 at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville.

Mingus, a native of nearby Brentwood, Tenn., will make his first ARCA start at the historic short track, but hopes to lean on his extensive Late Model background at Nashville. While carrying Fontaine’s ProMATIC colors, the hood of the No. 33 Toyota Camry will carry the message of support for the Down Syndrome Association of Middle Tennessee. Mingus is pitch-hitting for Fontaine who continues to recover from injuries sustained at Daytona International Speedway in February. Last week, the team announced that Fontaine’s recovery is progressing better than expected and he should return to competition by early June at the latest.
