Entering the weekend, Vences has two wins and two poles in the previous three NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series races, including a victory in the series' most recent event. Joining him on the front line is current championship points leader Abraham Calderón who qualified with a 24.090-second lap (130.760 mph). Irwin Vences has chosen the right time in the 2014 NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series Season to go on a hot streak.

The driver of the No. 46 Axtel/HP/M Racing Toyota got around Rafael Martínez on Lap 241 of the Potosina 200 from the Autódromo Potosino and held on for his third career victory, second of 2014. His first victory of the season came in the final event of the regular season and gave the Cuernavaca, Mexico, native a berth in the Desafio, the five-race playoff to decide the championship. Martínez, looking for his 20th career win and first of the season, looked poised to earn a victory in front of a sympathetic crowd. With nine laps left, Vences was able to get on the inside of the veteran and hold on for the win.

Irwin Vences finishes 28th in Sunday's NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series race at the El Dorado Speedway in Chihuahua, Mexico.

He started the No. 46 Axtel/HP/M Racing Toyota on the pole for the Chihuahua 240, the first event in the five-race Desafio to determine the NMTS Champion. Vences led 17 laps but was involved in a wreck around lap 222 of the 245 lap race. He finished the race in 28th place, 100 laps down to the leaders. He is ranked 11th among the eligible 12 drivers in the playoff lineup after this race.

Three weeks after winning his first career NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series pole, Irwin Vences was the fastest qualifier once again, turning in a fast lap of 19.758 seconds (113.878 mph) around the .625-mile oval at El Dorado Speedway in Chihuahua.

The last time Vences started a race on the pole he went on to lead every lap en route to his first victory of the season and a berth in the Toyota Series Desafio (5-race playoff). NASCAR Next driver Rubén Garcia Jr. will join Vences on the front row after posting a qualifying lap of 19.767 seconds, good for 113.826 mph. Javier Razo and José Luis Ramírez will start on the second row, followed by Abraham Calderón and Hugo Oliveras. Irwin Vences entered the final weekend of the 2014 NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series regular season as a long shot to qualify for the Desafio.

He left with his first pole award, second career victory and a possible berth in the series' five-race Desafío playoff round. The driver of the No. 46 Axtel/HP/M Racing Toyota earned his first career pole in Puebla 240 qualifying on Sunday morning and went on to win the afternoon feature for his first victory of the season and second of his career.

Irwin Vences earned his first NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series Pole in qualifying for Sunday’s Puebla 240.

The Cuernavaca, Mexico, native posted a fast lap of 38.054 seconds around the Autodromo Miguel E. Abed, good for 118.253 mph. It was the first series pole in 91 qualifying attempts for Vences who entered the weekend 27th in the championship standings. Homero Richards was second-quick with a lap of 38.253 seconds (117.638 mph). He was followed by 2013 Rookie of the Year Santiago Tovar (38.276 seconds / 117.567), Patrick Goeters (38.279 seconds / 117.252) and Rubén Pardo (38.401 seconds / 117.184).

Irwin Vences (No. 46 Chicks-Es Clásico Toyota) won the Mexico Fest 240 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodriguez on Sunday, beating out Rodrigo Peralta by .777 seconds, etching his name into the list of series winners for the first time.

The victory catapulted Vences into ninth position in the points standings, but it wasn't enough to secure him a spot in the series' Desafío, the final phase of the championship which will take part over the final five races of the season. Antonio Perez followed Vences and Peralta across the finish line for a third-finish, his second top five at the track this season. Abraham Calderon and Jose Luis Ramirez finished fourth and fifth respectively.
