Emeka Okafor will play with the 76ers' G-League affiliate in the hopes of signing with an NBA team, according to ESPN's Ian Begley.
The 35-year-old was medically cleared to play five months ago, after a nearly career-ending herniated disc in his neck. It's great to see him healthy and active, but his last viable fantasy campaign came during the 2010-11 season. Oct 15 - 9:26 AM

The 76ers have signed Emeka Okafor to a training camp deal.

They also agreed to a training camp deal with Kris Humphries this week. Joel Embiid's (knee) health is still a question mark and Jahlil Okafor is on the trade block, but Emeka isn't a lock to make the final roster by any means. He's been out of the league since 2013 and recently turned 35, so he'd likely have a limited role if he sticks around past camp.

Emeka Okafor will attempt an NBA comeback according to Jon Krawczynski of the Associated Press.

This isn't the first time that the former No. 2 pick has attempted a comeback, but Okafor has been medically cleared to return and is "determined" to play again. He last played for the Wizards in 2013 before a herniated disc in his neck put his career in jeopardy. Okafor has already been in touch with some teams according to this report and will likely start lining up workouts. He will be 35 in September, so the veteran will likely have a limited role if he can land a contract.
May 30 - 8:25 PM

Emeka Okafor will attempt a comeback to join a contending team in December or January.

He's 33 years old and has been out of the NBA since 2012-13. Okafor was thinking about a comeback in 2015, but he decided to wait a year. He's had a litany of injuries with a neck injury keeping him out for the 2014-15 season.

Emeka Okafor is likely to delay his return to the NBA until next season in an effort to fully recover from the herniated disk in his neck.

He is reportedly healthy but we don't blame him for being cautious considering how serious the injury was. Cleveland, Miami, and Dallas have all shown interest in him but it looks like they may have to move on. When we last saw Okafor on the court he averaged 9.7 points and 8.8 rebounds in 26.0 minutes per game for the Washington Wizards in 2012-13, so he should still have a couple of good years left in the tank when he eventually returns.

The Mavericks are reportedly interested in bringing in either Emeka Okafor or Jermaine O'Neal to help fill the void left by Brandan Wright.

The Mavs no longer have a true center to help backup Tyson Chandler, so it makes sense that they would have interest in Okafor or O'Neal. O'Neal has stated that he will make a decision "after the holidays" as to whether he wishes to continue his NBA career, and Okafor is still recovering from a herniated disk in his neck. For now, Greg Smith and Charlie Villanueva will audition for the backup role, and it'll be interesting to watch Rick Carlisle's rotations develop over the coming days.

Free agent Emeka Okafor isn't expected to sign with a team until mid-season because he's still recovering from a herniated disc in his back.

Okafor's camp has been contacted by "roughly half the league," according to ESPN's Marc Stein, including the Cavaliers and the Heat. The best news here might be that Okafor's awful injury won't be career-ending, and the 31-year-old should still have a few productive years in the tank.

The Heat have interest in picking up Emeka Okafor (back).

His herniated disk in his back kept him from playing in the 2013-14 season and he may miss the first few months of the upcoming season. If he's healthy, Okafor would be a nice fit for the Heat as a backup big man. Of course, he is nowhere near worth drafting in fantasy leagues until proven otherwise.

Unrestricted free agent Emeka Okafor (herniated disc) may miss the first few months of the 2014-15 season, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

This isn't a confirmed medical report but Okafor's timetable remains opaque, and the fact that he's still unsigned suggests teams are leery about his health. Hopefully the veteran will make a full recovery and return as a productive backup center, but his days as a fantasy asset may be gone for good.

Emeka Okafor (herniated disk) could be the centerpiece of the rumored Pau Gasol trade between the Lakers and Suns.

Okafor may not see the court this season, but his contract could play a large part in the Suns acquiring Pau Gasol. In the rumored swap, the Lakers would take on Okafor's expiring $14.5 million contract in exchange for Gasol as they attempt to gain some salary relief. Fantasy owners don't need to concern themselves with what happens to Okafor, but he could still play a part in what might be the biggest trade before the deadline.

Emeka Okafor's herniated disk is "much more severe than initially anticipated," according to J. Michael of CSNWashington.com, and he "might be on the court again within three months."

Okafor's indefinite timetable to return was a key factor in the Wizards' decision to trade him along with a future first-round pick for Marcin Gortat and three other players whom Washington will waive. The Suns are more interested in developing Alex Len and Miles Plumlee than they are in seeing Okafor on the court, and he shouldn't be drafted in any fantasy leagues.

Emeka Okafor has been traded to the Suns, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

He is out indefinitely with an injury to his neck and the Suns got him to make the numbers work financially. Okafor is going to be an unrestricted free agent this year and the Suns aren't likely to keep him. He's not worth drafting considering his lack of a timetable.

Emeka Okafor (neck) is not with the team and traveled back to New York.

He's under supervision of a neck specialist in New York and doesn't appear close to a return. Okafor is out indefinitely and is not worth owning in most fantasy leagues until there is some sort of timetable for a return.

Emeka Okafor (neck) has started his rehab but does not have a timetable to return, according to coach Randy Wittman.

There hasn't been much clarity on this situation, but Okafor could miss a lot of time with his herniated C4 disk in his neck. He's not worth drafting in fantasy leagues and Kevin Seraphin will have a chance to bounce back from his disappointing 2012-13 season.
Wed, Sep 25, 2013 03:21:00 PM

Updating a previous item, Emeka Okafor (neck) is "optimistic" that he won't need surgery on his herniated C4 disk.

He will try and rehab the injury and said he has no timetable for a return. Okafor is planning on doing manual manipulation and spine exercises while remaining hopeful to play this season. He isn't worth drafting with this news and Kevin Seraphin moves up as a target in standard drafts.
