Emeka Okafor said he expects to be back with the Pelicans in 2018-19.
Despite being out of the league for five years due to injury, Okafor was a nice surprise for the Pelicans, averaging 4.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 13.6 minutes over 26 appearances. It's unclear if the Pelicans will re-sign DeMarcus Cousins and they are talking up Cheick Diallo quite a bit, but we'd still expect the Pelicans to bring Okafor back as emergency depth -- he's only on the books for a non-guaranteed $2.4 million. Date:

Emeka Okafor played just five minutes on Tuesday, finishing with zero points, one rebound, one steal and one turnover.

He started, but wasn't used against the mostly center-less Mavs tonight, after playing just 12 minutes on Thursday. He was playing well before these two duds and should be ready to bounce back soon, but is pretty unreliable, obviously. But after playing just 17 minutes since Thursday, he should have plenty of energy if the Pelicans decide to use him more going forward.
Mar 20 - 10:28 PM

Emeka Okafor played 12 minutes on Thursday, finishing a road loss in San Antonio with six points, five rebounds and no other stats to his credit.

Okafor made 2-of-4 field goals and 2-of-2 free throws, but this just wasn't a good matchup. The Spurs started a small lineup and played Pau Gasol just 10 minutes off the bench, leaving Okafor exposed defensively. Most deep-league owners should write this off as a fluke, since the veteran has been reliable lately with rebounds, defensive stats and FG percentage.
Mar 15 - 11:44 PM

Emeka Okafor will come off the bench on Thursday against the Spurs.

He's been solid for about a month and he should still be in the rotation. The Pelicans have a ton of games coming up, so Okafor could be worth a look in deeper leagues.
Mar 15 - 8:41 PM

Emeka Okafor played 26 minutes and hit 7-of-14 shots for 14 points, eight rebounds and three steals in Tuesday's win over the Hornets.

Dwight Howard outplayed Okafor, but the old man held his own. He's averaging 12.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 0.5 blocks over his last two, and the Pelicans might be ready to lean on him the rest of the way as they fight for playoff seeding. If you're in a deep league and need a center, Okafor's at least worth a look.
Mar 13 - 10:52 PM

The Pelicans added a non-guaranteed year to Emeka Okafor's contract when they signed him for the remainder of the season.

This means Okafor will be on the books for $2.4 million next season if the Pelicans decide to keep him. Based on his play this season, that seems likely. He's averaging 5.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 15.7 minutes per game and may need to play more if Anthony Davis (ankle) gets bad news on his MRI.

Mar 8 - 11:50 AM

Emeka Okafor scored eight points with six rebounds and one assist in 17 minutes against the Kings on Wednesday.

The Pelicans have gone 10-2 since Okafor debut, so serious credit to their front office for this pickup. Okafor could be looking at a few extra minutes if Anthony Davis (ankle) needs to miss time, but chances are he likely wouldn't see more than 24 or so. He's only a specialist for blocks in deep leagues.
Mar 8 - 12:51 AM

Emeka Okafor (ankle) returned to action vs. the Clippers on Tuesday, scoring nine points with seven rebounds, one steal and three blocks in 21 minutes.

He set a season-high in minutes played tonight because of the matchup. Okafor has been a tremendous signing for the Pelicans so far and he'll make a lot more starts going forward, but usually he'll see minutes in the teens which will limit his fantasy appeal. He's a blocks and rebounding specialist in very deep leagues.
Mar 7 - 1:21 AM

Emeka Okafor (right ankle) will start on Tuesday vs. the Clippers.

He's only averaging 14.9 minutes per game this season, so his return means Nikola Mirotic (back to the bench) and Cheick Diallo will lose a few minutes. Okafor isn't a fantasy option outside of the deepest of leagues.
Mar 6 - 9:11 PM

Emeka Okafor (right ankle) is questionable to play Tuesday vs. the Clippers.

If Okafor is out again, Nikola Mirotic will be in line for another start with Cheick Diallo logging extended minutes with the second unit. Check back for another update on Okafor following Tuesday morning's shootaround.
Mar 5 - 5:12 PM

Emeka Okafor (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Mavericks.

With Okafor unavailable today, Nikola Mirotic will return to the starting five, Anthony Davis will play heavy minutes and perhaps, Cheick Diallo will be a larger part of the rotation. After Sunday, the Pelicans have a Tuesday-Wednesday back-to-back set, so we'll be considering Okafor questionable for Tuesday's game.

Emeka Okafor (right ankle) has been downgraded from probable to questionable for Sunday's game vs. Dallas.

He has been better than expected with the Pelicans, averaging 4.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 14.9 minutes per game. If Okafor can't go, Nikola Mirotic will likely draw the start and will get a small bump, while Cheick Diallo might pick up a few minutes as well.
Mar 4 - 11:57 AM

Emeka Okafor (right ankle) is probable to face the Mavericks on Sunday.

He only played four minutes on Wednesday, so that may explain it. Okafor is still only going to see minutes in the teens, so he's only a specialist for blocks in deep leagues.
Mar 3 - 2:33 PM

Emeka Okafor started Wednesday's game but played only four minutes, grabbing one rebound without any other stats.

Nikola Mirotic started the second half and this is one reason owners can't trust Okafor -- his role varies nightly based on the opponent. The Spurs were without Pau Gasol (knee) and they lost LaMarcus Aldridge (ankle) early, so Okafor was simply a poor fit as the Spurs went smaller. There's no reason to own him in most situations.
Mar 1 - 12:54 AM

Emeka Okafor scored a season-high 14 points with four rebounds, one block and one steal in 19 minutes vs. the Suns on Monday.

The Pelicans rewarded him with a contract for the remainder of the season on Monday and Okafor responded with arguably his best game of the campaign. He was averaging 3.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in 16.2 minutes per game prior to this little outburst, so we're still not adding him outside of deeper fantasy leagues.
