Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said that he believes Luol Deng will show his versatility this season.
"Now that we have a full complement of players, I think you’ll see a much more versatile Luol Deng," Spoelstra said. "He knows how to adapt to different systems. I’ve told him we’re not going to put him in a box." Deng is locked in as the starting small forward, but it's hard to imagine him getting a lot of touches while the Heat are at full strength. Deng is worth a look in the later rounds. Sep 30 - 10:00 AM

Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel believes that the Heat's starting five of Goran Dragic, Dwyane Wade, Luol Deng, Chris Bosh and Hassan Whiteside is "set in stone."

There are no surprises here, but Winderman hinted that Deng will be the starter for the foreseeable future until rookie Justise Winslow is ready to take over. The Heat have one of the most lethal starting fives on paper, but they will need to stay healthy in order to make a deep playoff run in the East. Deng is going to lose touches while the Heat are at full strength, but he is still worth a late-round pick in standard leagues.
Aug 21 - 10:06 AM

Luol Deng will be a captain for one of the two teams in the NBA's first game in Africa.

Deng will lead Team Africa for the event on Aug. 1. "I would never have dreamt that one day I would be playing in an NBA game in Africa," Deng said. He picked up his player option for the last year of his deal this season and will be Miami's starting small forward. Deng's inability to stay healthy could open up minutes for Justise Winslow. Deng is a late-round pick in standard leagues.
Jul 24 - 3:20 PM

Updating a previous item, Luol Deng has opted in with the Heat and will remain in Miami.

Just minutes ago it was reported that Deng would opt out, but apparently he's decided to delay his chance at another payday for a season. It's a surprising and winning scenario for Miami, who now doesn't have to worry about finding a starting small forward next season. Deng will also mentor rookie Justise Winslow. Pat Riley wins again.
Jun 29 - 2:04 PM

Luol Deng is now expected to decline his player option and become an unrestricted free agent.

Deng has to make an official declaration in the next 12 hours, but it would be surprising to see him opt in because he would lose all of his leverage. If he doesn't return to Miami, Justise Winslow would become a very intriguing sleeper to consider for fantasy basketball next season.
Jun 29 - 1:09 PM

Luol Deng still hasn't decided if he will exercise his player option with the Heat next season.

His agent said that a decision will be made on Monday, so the Heat should have some clarity soon. Deng was reportedly dissatisfied with his role on the Heat at times last season, so it will be interesting to see if he decides to leave town. Deng hasn't been the same player since he left Chicago two seasons ago, and his body appears to be breaking down. He averaged 14.0 points, 5.2 boards, 1.9 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.1 3-pointers during the 2014-15 campaign, but he will have a tough time replicating those numbers if the Heat are at full strength heading into next season.
Jun 28 - 1:23 PM

Luol Deng was dissatisfied with his role on the Heat at times this season.

"When I played [for] Scott Skiles [in Chicago], he didn’t want me shooting any threes," Deng said. "He wanted me close to the rim. My whole focus was the mid-range…. This year, [Erik Spoelstra] wanted me to take the corner threes more than I’ve done in the past…. Not having someone like Josh definitely hurts my game." Deng's role changed (frequently) due to all of the Heat injuries, and it's still unknown if he'll exercise his player option to return next season.
Apr 20 - 10:51 AM

Luol Deng (rest, knee) is not likely to play against the 76ers on Wednesday.

There was some talk of Deng missing the rest of the season earlier this month, but the Heat gave him a chance to play in order to make a desperate attempt at the postseason. The Heat were knocked out last night, so now they’re in for a one-day tank. Deng’s season ends with averages of 14.0 points, 5.2 boards, 1.9 assists and 0.9 steals. It’ll be Tyler Johnson, Michael Beasley and James Ennis getting most of the minutes on the wing.
Apr 15 - 7:46 PM

Luol Deng isn't ready to decide on his future with the Miami Heat yet.

Deng has a $10.2 million player option for next season, but has not decided upon his next steps yet. "We’re talking about it early; I’m not thinking about it yet," he said on Monday. " I really don’t want to go there yet. When the season’s over and I sit down and relax, I can start thinking about that stuff." Deng is averaging 14.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.1 three-pointers in his first season with Miami and would again enter the 2015-16 season as a later-round fantasy player if he stays with the Heat.
Apr 14 - 9:14 AM

Luol Deng played 37 minutes against the Raptors on Saturday with 11 points, seven rebounds, one assist and no turnovers.

He is getting big minutes and gave all he could tonight. Deng just hasn't been himself in his last five, averaging 11.2 points, 7.6 boards, 1.6 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.6 treys on 36.1 percent from the field. There's a decent chance he gets shut down, so feel free to cut him for someone else who benefits from a shut down.
Apr 11 - 10:25 PM

Luol Deng (knee) will play against the Raptors on Saturday.

He played 36 minutes on Thursday, but didn't have a great game with just eight points on 3-of-13 from the field. Deng should see big minutes again tonight and is worth starting in standard leagues. He could be a shut down candidate if the Heat are eliminated from playoff contention.
Apr 11 - 5:59 PM

Luol Deng (knee) is probable for Saturday's game vs. the Raptors.

Deng's knee has been struggling for a while, but it is a good sign that he was able to play 36 minutes vs. the Bulls on Thursday. With the Heat needing a win tonight, Deng should see as many minutes as he can handle and belongs in all active lineups.
Apr 11 - 2:07 PM

Luol Deng played 36 minutes against the Bulls on Thursday with eight points, eight boards, four assists, two steals and one block.

His knee injury didn't seem like a problem tonight. Deng was going after loose balls all night, but he just struggled shooting the ball with a 3-of-13 line from the field. Based on how the Heat have treated their injury report, Deng will be at least "probable" for Saturday.
Apr 9 - 10:46 PM

Luol Deng (knee) will play Thursday vs. the Bulls.

He was listed as probable earlier, so there was never really any doubt about him being in uniform tonight. He put up 21 points through 41 minutes of action on Tuesday, so go ahead and get him on your active roster.
Apr 9 - 6:46 PM

Luol Deng (knee) is probable to play against the Bulls on Thursday.

He played 41 minutes on Tuesday and scored 21 points against the Hornets. Deng was up in the air for the rest of the season, but the Heat seem committed to making a playoff run. Deng should be ready to go against one of his former teams.
