Luol Deng said he and his agent have been working with the Lakers on a potential buyout or trade.
"It definitely hurts," Deng said of being completely out of the rotation. "But the only answer for me now is to prove myself away from LA. I'm not asked to play, I'm not in the rotation so I can't prove myself here." Deng has one of the worst contracts in the NBA and is owed about $54 million over the next three season, so it's going to be almost impossible for them to find a trade partner. Nov 6 - 8:33 PM

Coach Luke Walton said that Luol Deng will not be a part of the Lakers rotation going forward.

Deng played 13 minutes on opening night but has been inactive in each of the Lakers last two games. "As of now he’s not in the rotation as far as consistently penciled in without something happening," Walton said. With all the young depth L.A. has on the wing, there are simply not enough minutes for Deng. The Laker would love to move him, but Deng is owed a whopping $53.8 million, making his contract virtually untradable.
Oct 24 - 9:44 AM

Luol Deng is inactive for Friday's game vs. the Suns.

He's not injured, but he's either being rested or is completely out of the rotation after playing 13 minutes vs. the Clippers in the opener. The Lakers probably want that contract back.
Oct 20 - 9:19 PM

Luol Deng scored two points with one assist and one steal in 13 minutes against the Clippers on Thursday.

He's probably just a short-term fix until Kentavious Caldwell-Pope comes back on Sunday. Deng is 32 years old and coach Tom Thibodeau ran him ragged in his Bulls days, so he won't do much good in this up-tempo rotation.
Oct 20 - 1:14 AM

Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Luol Deng, Larry Nance Jr. and Brook Lopez will start against the Clippers on Thursday.

As expected, the Lakers slide Ingram over to the two much like they did last year. This lineup isn't going to stick for long and it'll almost certainly change when Kentavious Caldwell-Pope's two-game suspension is up. We'll see a lot of Kyle Kuzma and Julius Randle in the second unit.
Oct 19 - 10:21 PM

Luol Deng was spotted running with the first unit during Monday's scrimmage.

Kantavious Caldwell-Pope is suspended for the first two games of the season, and Julius Randle is dealing with a rib issue, so Deng could potentially earn a couple spot starts to begin the season. However, it's tough to see him churning out much value, even in a DFS context.
Oct 16 - 4:18 PM

Luol Deng started on Wednesday, finishing with four points, one rebound and two assists in 17 minutes of action.

Brandon Ingram was out with a head contusion, but it's just a temporary situation as the Lakers play it safe in exhibition matches. L.A. would assuredly love to unload Deng's contract, but it would take an ideal landing spot for him to have fantasy relevance.
Oct 5 - 12:43 AM

Luol Deng (hip) made his preseason debut with nine points, six rebounds, one assist and one triple in 10 minutes on Monday vs. the Nuggets.

It was a solid outing for Deng, but his minutes are expected to trend down this season with the Lakers turning their offense over to Brandon Ingram. Deng isn't worth drafting in almost any format.
Oct 3 - 1:44 AM

Luol Deng (hip) will be available to play in Monday's preseason game against the Nuggets.

Deng was withheld from Saturday's preseason game due to a minor hip flexor issue, but it sounds like he'll have the chance to get out there for some limited minutes tonight. As for fantasy hoops, the Lakers seem committed to the youth movement, meaning that Brandon Ingram will likely be ahead of Deng on the depth chart this year. It's tough to imagine a league where Deng would be worth drafting.
Oct 2 - 2:57 PM

Luol Deng (hip flexor) will not play against the Wolves on Saturday.

It's tough to tell where Deng fits on this team, especially with the youth and pace the team wants to run. The Lakers are expecting Brandon Ingram to be very aggressive tonight and they should work in some extra Kyle Kuzma. Deng doesn't have fantasy value.
Sep 30 - 7:49 PM

Luol Deng has been working out in England during his basketball camp.

He was expected to make a full recovery from his torn pectoral surgery and it looks like he will indeed be ready for camp. The Lakers are likely going to try to unload Deng at some point this year, but it won't be easy with him on the books through 2019-20. If Brandon Ingram can take a step forward and Kyle Kuzma builds off his fantastic summer league, Deng may not play too often in 2017-18.

Sep 6 - 4:00 PM

Luol Deng, Timofey Mozgov or Jordan Clarkson could be moved at some point this upcoming season in order to create room to sign Paul George as an unrestricted free agent in 2018.

Former Lakers' GM Mitch Kupchak awarded Deng and Mozgov with some atrocious contracts on his way out the door, and now Laker management will need to rectify that situation in order to be able to present George a competitive offer during free agency next summer. Deng is on the books for roughly $54 million through 2020, while Mozgov is owed around $48 million over the next three seasons, but maybe they'll be able to find a taker by including Jordan Clarkson as a part of the package. They could also make things work by letting Julius Randle go during free agency in 2018, but shedding Mozgov or Deng's contracts would make more sense from a competitive standpoint.

Luol Deng (chest) had surgery on his right pectoral muscle on Wednesday.

He is expected to make a full recovery before training camp. Deng is 32 years old and his best days are probably behind him, especially with how coach Tom Thibodeau played him so heavily in his Bulls days. He won't be worth drafting in fantasy next year.

May 3 - 6:59 PM

Luol Deng said he hopes to play more frequently at power forward next season.

2016-17 was a lost season for Deng. Despite signing a whopping four-year, $72 million contract last summer, Deng averaged career-lows in points (7.6), FG percentage (.387), assists (1.3) and minutes (26.5). He feels part of the problem was playing out position. "In terms of my future," Deng said, "I would like to play at the 4 more. The 3 is more of a spot-up position for a lot of teams. I think I struggle with that." We'll see how the Lakers handle Deng next season, but he should be avoided in standard fantasy leagues until he proves he can still produce.
Apr 22 - 10:03 AM

The Lakers will reportedly shut down Luol Deng for the remainder of the 2016-17 season.

The Lakers are prioritizing the development of the younger guys on the roster, so both Timofey Mozgov and Deng will not take the court again this season, meaning that their $136 million investment will finish the year watching from the sidelines. Both Mozgov and Deng have three years left on their deal in which they'll be paid far more than their market value, so Lakers GM Rob Pelinca may consider waiving these guys during the offseason. Brandon Ingram will be the unquestioned started small forward moving forward, and Larry Nance could see an uptick in minutes.
