Dorell Wright (left hand fracture) is expected to miss the next 4-6 weeks of action, but the fracture will not require surgery.
This is the news we were expecting on Wright, and with him set to miss the remainder of the regular season, it's safe to drop him in all formats. C.J. McCollum, Allen Crabbe, and Alonzo Gee should pick up some extra minutes with Wright out, but none of those guys are likely to do enough to matter in most leagues. Apr 3 - 1:22 PM

Date:

Dorell Wright (hand) will not play against the Lakers on Friday.

He will be re-evaluated in Los Angeles to determine treatment and a possible prognosis. Generally, it takes 4-6 weeks for a broken metacarpal to heal, but it's possible Wright makes it back sooner. If he's out, expect C.J. McCollum and Allen Crabbe to benefit.

Dorell Wright (hand) will travel with the Blazers to Los Angeles for Friday's game against the Lakers, but his status is currently unknown at this point.

Wright suffered a broken fourth metacarpal in his left hand during Wednesday's game, and given this is an injury that generally takes 4-6 weeks to heal, we'll be considering him highly doubtful for Friday. If he's out, C.J. McCollum, Allen Crabbe, and Alonzo Gee will have the opportunity for extended minutes, although none of these guys can be viewed as viable options in standard leagues.

Dorell Wright suffered a broken fourth metacarpal in his left hand on Wednesday.

Usually, it takes about 4-6 weeks for this injury to heal, so Wright is unlikely to be back this regular season and he probably won't be back in time for a first-round playoff series. The Blazers may trust C.J. McCollum more with his minutes, which would put him on the radar in deeper leagues. Alonzo Gee and Allen Crabbe could also slide into the rotation.
Apr 2 - 1:33 AM

Dorell Wright assumed a starting role for Portland on Tuesday, finishing with 12 points, two 3-pointers, five rebounds, two assists and zero turnovers in 21 minutes.

Both Nicolas Batum (back) and LaMarcus Aldridge (finger) could sit out again vs. the Jazz on Wednesday, giving Wright a small window to extended playing time. He's not trustworthy in all but the deepest fantasy leagues, however, as highlighted by tonight's lackluster production.
Mar 25 - 1:50 AM

Dorell Wright and Alonzo Gee are starting in place of LaMarcus Aldridge (finger) and Nicolas Batum (back) vs. the Warriors on Tuesday.

It's possible that Batum and Aldridge miss some additional action, but considering how often head coach Terry Stotts tweaks his lineups, it's too difficult to pinpoint who will be the primary beneficiary. That being said, Gee's game doesn't translate to fantasy very well and he can be left on the wire in most leagues, while Wright has some upside and is worth a look for his 3-pointers. We will let you know how they fare after the game.
Mar 24 - 10:45 PM

Dorell Wright started in place of Nicolas Batum (back) for the second half on Saturday against the Grizzlies with 10 points, six boards, two assists, two steals, one black and two 3-pointers in 25 minutes.

It's unknown if Batum will miss time, but it's still going to be tough to add Wright. The last time Wright had a major blip on the fantasy radar back when he had a 15-point game on Jan. 21, he was almost a DNP-CD the next game even with the Blazers being banged up. Unless Batum is ruled out, it's hard to add Wright in most formats.
Mar 21 - 11:25 PM

Dorell Wright scored eight points in 13 minutes during Thursday's 94-75 win over the Mavs, adding one rebound, one assist and two 3-pointers.

With Wes Matthews (Achilles) out for the season, Wright might step up. However, we've seen this movie before with role players for Stotts. Basically, Arron Afflalo is going to step into Matthews' minutes while Wright, Alonzo Gee, C.J. McCollum and Steve Blake will get Afflalo's 27 minutes. Wright isn't worth owning in standard leagues.
Mar 6 - 1:29 AM

Dorell Wright took advantage of an expanded role in LaMarcus Aldridge's absence on Sunday, coming off the bench for nine points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal in 17 minutes.

Wright made 4-of-9 shots while missing both of his 3-point attempts, and his marks his highest playing-time since Jan. 24. Aldridge is day-to-day with a sprained right thumb and Portland has too much depth to consider adding Wright in standard fantasy formats.
Feb 23 - 12:04 AM

Dorell Wright scored 10 points with six rebounds, three assists and three 3-pointers in 21 minutes against the Wizards on Saturday.

After basically three halves of no Nicolas Batum (wrist), Wright looks like the best player to grab in fantasy leagues. That said, we have to caution you that he is going to be shuffled in and out of the lineup, so he's not really a reliable asset in even 16-team leagues right now. Maybe coach Terry Stotts trusts him eventually.
Jan 25 - 12:57 AM

Dorell Wright played just 10 minutes against the Celtics on Thursday with one point, one rebound and two steals.

He was the 11th player to be used tonight and might have been played a lot less had Nicolas Batum (wrist) been able to stay healthy. The vast majority of Wright's minutes came at small forward tonight and he could see minutes in the 20s while Batum is out. However, coach Terry Stotts is going to pick and choose Wright's spots, so he's a risky grab in most fantasy leagues.
Jan 23 - 2:19 AM

Dorell Wright started for LaMarcus Aldridge on Wednesday and came through with 15 points, three rebounds, five assists, two steals and three 3-pointers on 4-of-10 shooting.

We all know Wright is capable of a game like this if given the opportunity, but it's been a long time coming. Aldridge will have another MRI on his thumb on Thursday, so we still don't know how much time he'll miss. We've also seen the Blazers switch things up from game to game when Aldridge is out, but for now, Wright looks like the best short-term pickup option in Portland. Thomas Robinson came off the bench for six points and seven rebounds in 17 minutes tonight.
Jan 22 - 12:35 AM

Dorell Wright will start in place of LaMarcus Aldridge on Wednesday vs. the Suns.

It's not a surprise to see Wright start and he had some starts last year while LMA was out. It's anyone's guess who will get most of Aldridge's minutes, so any other Blazer besides Damian Lillard and Wes Matthews is a gamble in fantasy leagues.
Jan 21 - 8:53 PM

Dorell Wright logged 16 minutes off the bench on Monday, scoring nine points on 3-of-6 shooting (including a three) with two rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Wright has gotten starts in the past when LaMarcus Aldridge (thumb) has missed time, but his history converting those starts into value has been checkered. He's a desperation plug-and-play if Aldridge misses Wednesday's game against the Suns, which seems likely, with the chance to earn greater fantasy consideration with a solid performance in standard formats.
Jan 20 - 3:08 AM

Dorell Wright (illness) made his only shot attempt on Sunday, a 3-pointer, finishing with three points and no other stats to his credit in three minutes of action.

Wright has now played a total of 52 minutes in eight appearances this season, so his availability off Portland's bench isn't of any concern for fantasy owners.
