Jameer Nelson said he joined the Mavericks because he wanted to win.
The Magic had the worst record in the NBA two seasons ago and were third-to-last in 2013-14. "I don’t want to sit back and develop anymore," Nelson said. "I tried that for two years. It was fun and it was tough. It was challenging. It was more challenging than people know." The Mavericks will likely use Nelson in combination with Devin Harris and Raymond Felton at point guard this season. His 3-point shooting could put him on the radar as a late-round pick. Jameer Nelson and the Mavericks are expected to finalize a two-year, $6 million deal on Thursday, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.

The deal also contains a player option in its second year. The Mavericks have had a busy offseason, acquiring Tyson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Chandler Parsons, and now inking Nelson for two years. It is still unclear what role he will play next season, but he will likely be part of a rotating point guard platoon.

Jameer Nelson said on Thursday "My 3-point percentage hopefully will go up playing with better guys."

"The looks will be there," Nelson said. "Dirk will draw a lot of attention. Monta draws a lot of attention. Chandler Parsons, too. Everybody’s going to draw attention, so somebody’s going to be open. I’m just preparing myself to make open shots." Nelson shot 34.8 percent from the three-point line last season, making 2.0 treys per game. With Raymond Felton, Devin Harris, and Nelson on the roster, it's still undetermined who will initially see the lion's share of the minutes at point guard.

Jameer Nelson has committed to signing with the Mavericks, according to Yahoo! Sports.

It's been expected for a couple days now and Nelson will add some depth to the Mavs. They're expected to use Nelson, Devin Harris and Raymond Felton as a three-point guard rotation while they will also spell Monta Ellis. The Mavs are going to have one of the smallest backcourts in the NBA, so it'll be of the utmost importance that Tyson Chandler stays healthy. Nelson is only a late-round flier in standard leagues right now.
Jul 23 - 10:35 PM

Jameer Nelson is "on track" to sign with the Mavericks after his meeting on Thursday.

It's a great fit for both sides with the Mavericks having to deal with Raymond Felton while they could also use a guard who is a plus 3-point shooter. Nelson gets a chance to contribute for a contender and should be able to get plenty of chances to score in double figures. His usage rate isn't going to be too high and he's never really put up eye-popping assist totals, so he's more of a late-round pick in fantasy leagues.

The Mavericks will host a meeting for unrestricted free agent Jameer Nelson on Thursday

They're looking for a point guard and are currently expected to start Raymond Felton. If the Mavericks can land Nelson, he'd have a great chance to start and would be a nice guy to have off the ball with his career 37.4 percent from 3-point range. The Mavs have $2.7 million left in their exception and are hoping that'll be enough.

The Pelicans are interested in signing Jameer Nelson.

Nelson was contacted by general manager Dell Demps this week. The Pelicans decided not to put in a qualifying offer to Brian Roberts and will need a backup point guard behind Jrue Holiday. Nelson would lose a lot of fantasy value as a backup and would not be worth drafting in most leagues.

The Magic have decided to waive Jameer Nelson.

Wow. The move will save Orlando $6 million, and it looks like newly drafted point guard Elfrid Payton is now slotted in as the starting point guard. Jameer has struggled to stay healthy as he's missed an average of 21.7 games over the past three seasons. However, at 32 years of age, Nelson still has some gas left in the tank, and he will likely look to latch on to a contender as he enters the final years of his career. Nelson averaged 12.1 points, 7.0 assists, and 2.0 three-pointers on 39.4 percent shooting during the 2013-14 season.

The Magic may be "leaning toward" keeping Jameer Nelson next season, according to Orlando sports anchor Larry Ridley.

Nelson would earn $8 million next season but the deal is only guaranteed for $2 million. He has made no secret about his desire to stay in Orlando and his tireless efforts for the franchise and local community haven't gone unnoticed, but if the Magic draft a talented PG this summer financial realities might outweigh Nelson's perceived value.
Apr 28 - 10:06 AM

Jameer Nelson's time as the Magic's starting point guard may be coming to an end soon, as ESPN's Chad Ford believes the Magic will take a point guard in the upcoming draft.

"They want a point guard," said Ford. "They experimented with Victor Oladipo there, but preferably they get a young player that is more of a true point. [Dante] Exum and Marcus Smart are the guys for them." With Nelson's contract only guaranteed for $2 million, he may be an expendable commodity this summer. The Magic have a 15.6 percent chance of winning the lottery, making it likely they will have the opportunity to draft either Smart or Exum this June.

Jameer Nelson (groin) will not play on Wednesday vs. the Pacers.

His season ends with averages of 12.1 points, 3.4 boards, 7.0 assists, 0.8 steals and 2.0 triples. With Nelson out, guys like Doron Lamb and Andrew Nicholson have stepped up, but both are risky plays in fantasy leagues. Victor Oladipo will start again.
Apr 16 - 5:21 PM

The Magic reportedly haven't decided whether to pick up Jameer Nelson's partially-guaranteed final season, but he hopes to stay in Orlando long-term.

Nelson's $8 million salary is only guaranteed for $2 million, and the Magic could always try to re-negotiate a longer deal. "It's the team's option. I would like to still be here and finish my career here," Nelson said. "I have a lot more years left in me. Good years. I'm not sure what they have in store for me." He ranks eighth in the NBA with 7.0 assists per game despite the arrival of prized rookie guard Victor Oladipo.
Apr 16 - 10:13 AM

Jameer Nelson (groin) will not play against the Bulls on Monday.

It will be his second consecutive have out of the lineup and the Magic have run some messy rotations without him this season. Victor Oladipo will start again and the team has also given more minutes to guys like Doron Lamb and E'Twaun Moore. Nelson can be cut in all leagues and is probably out on Wednesday.
Apr 14 - 6:40 PM

Jameer Nelson (groin strain) will not play against the Nets on Sunday.

He is dealing with soreness in his groin and this is the first we've heard of his injury. Nelson played 34 minutes on Friday night and may have been playing through the strain, but there's certainly a chance for the Magic to rule him out for the season even if it's minor. Fantasy owners have little incentive to keep him on their rosters. Victor Oladipo will get another chance as the starter at point guard.
Apr 13 - 4:41 PM

Jameer Nelson had nine points and four assists in 23 minutes during Wednesday's loss to the Cavs.

Nelson's teeth and knee weren't an issue. He simply got eaten up by Kyrie Irving as the Cavs coasted to a 23-point halftime lead. Nelson won't be an appetizing start in a road game against the Bobcats' staunch defense Friday night.
