Charlie Villanueva has come to terms on a deal with the Mavs that will be officially signed later in the week.
The deal will be for the veteran's minimum, and he'll provide the Mavs with some emergency depth off the bench. It'll take more than a few injuries for Villanueva to gain any sort of fantasy value, and he can ignored in all leagues on draft day. Jul 7 - 2:08 PM

Charlie Villanueva is a "good bet" to re-sign with the Mavericks on a minimum contract.

Charlie V saved his career in Dallas last season after the Mavs gave him a shot to make the team in training camp, and with the veteran expressing a desire to return to Dallas, it shouldn't be too hard for the two sides to work out a new deal.
Jul 6 - 9:21 AM

Charlie Villanueva said that he'd "love" to return to the Mavericks as an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

"I would love to come back," Villanueva said. "It felt like this organization gave me an opportunity, gave me a chance and took a chance on me. I’m loyal, and I would love to be back." While Villanueva would love to return, the Mavs currently have much larger concerns in free agency, with Tyson Chandler and other big name free agents hitting the open market. Villanueva may be able to land another minimum level deal with the club, but with season averages of just 6.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game, he's not going to have any real fantasy value in almost any league.

May 8 - 12:12 PM

Charlie Villanueva started and scored 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting with four rebounds, one steal, one block and three treys over 22 minutes in Monday's loss to the Jazz.

Villanueva could get similar run or even more in Wednesday's finale, so if you need some 3-pointers, points, boards and maybe some defensive stats -- give him a look.
Apr 14 - 4:18 AM

Charlie Villanueva pitched in 14 points, three 3-pointers, four rebounds, two steals and one block in 20 minutes to help the short-handed Mavs defeat the Lakers on Sunday.

CV's instant offense gives Rick Carlisle one more weapon to bring off the bench, but he's unlikely to play more than a situational role in the postseason. Amare Stoudemire (rest) should return on Monday but Villanueva could still earn solid playing time with Dirk Nowitzki a likely candidate for a DNP-CD.
Apr 13 - 12:17 AM

Charlie Villanueva played 23 minutes against the Clippers on Friday and scored 19 points with five rebounds, one assist, one block and three 3-pointers.

Al-Farouq Aminu (shoulder) didn't play tonight, but he's probably close to a return. Coach Rick Carlisle said earlier today that Aminu was a go, so he should be ready for Monday. Leave Charlie V on the wire even though this was a great game.
Mar 14 - 12:33 AM

Charlie Villanueva was scoreless without any stats to his credit in three minutes on Tuesday, marking his lowest playing time since late December.

Amare Stoudemire played 17 minutes off the bench tonight and his arrival directly corresponds to Villanueva's decline. CV will heat up offensively a few more times, and Rick Carlisle isn't shy about riding the hot hand, but there's no reliable value here for fantasy owners.
Feb 24 - 11:49 PM

Charlie Villanueva scored a season-high 26 points in Monday's loss, hitting 9-of-13 shots (including five threes) with five rebounds and no steals or blocks in 23 minutes.

Villanueva might be a sneaky play in DFS leagues on Wednesday against the Jazz if Tyson Chandler and Monta Ellis miss time, which sounds like it'll be the case.
Feb 10 - 3:25 AM

Charlie Villanueva scored a season-high 20 points off the bench on Friday, hitting six threes with five rebounds and one block in 23 minutes.

Villanueva had a few nice games earlier in the month but has been dead quiet ever since. If he can parlay this into a few nice outings in a row we'll let you know.
Jan 31 - 1:58 AM

Charlie Villanueva played just eight minutes with three rebounds to his stat line on Friday.

Villanueva had shown some flashes of past form but tonight is a tough pill to swallow for a guy that hasn't done anything in a long time. Keep an eye on him in deep leagues, but owners can watch this action from the wire.
Jan 2 - 10:53 PM

Charlie Villanueva continued his improbable run as Mavs' backup big man on Friday, scoring 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting (including three treys) with three rebounds and four blocks.

Villanueva was fatigued by the minutes and he has three very solid games under his belt. We don't know if this can continue but he's the only real backup big that they have that can do anything offensively. He can't keep his current mid-round production from the last week up, but deep league owners can certainly speculate on his value and standard league owners (especially in 9-cat) may want to start giving him a look.

Charlie Villanueva scored a season-high 18 points on Tuesday vs. the Suns, adding four boards and four 3-pointers in 20 minutes.

Don't look now but Villanueva has now posted two decent games in a row after scoring 14 points on Monday. There is some playing time available in Dallas after Brandan Wright was shipped to Boston, so owners in deep leagues can put him on their radar. To be clear, we don't see Villanueva being able to keep up this pace, but crazier things have happened.
Wed, Dec 24, 2014 12:46:00 AM

Charlie Villanueva hit four 3-pointers in 13 minutes off the bench on Monday, finishing with 14 points, six rebounds and two steals.

Villanueva could theoretically luck into a small role now that the Mavs sent their only serviceable reserve big man to Boston. But forgive us if we don't act like we're at Walmart on a Black Friday.

Charlie Villanueva will make the Mavs roster.

He didn't play well and the Mavericks have one of the deepest forward rotations in the NBA. Villanueva isn't going to make the rotation.
Sat, Oct 25, 2014 03:27:00 PM

Charlie Villanueva finished his preseason with a five-point effort in six minutes off the Mavs' bench, making one 3-pointer with two rebounds and one turnover.

CV scored double-digit points in four games this preseason and his 3-point prowess might be appealing for coach Rick Carlisle to keep on the bench. He's not a lock to make the regular season roster, however, and fantasy owners should continue ignoring him.
