Jason Maxiell is "hanging in there" after having surgery to repair a detached retina.
Maxiell will not play again this season and has "likely" played his final game with the Pistons. He'll be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason and Detroit is set to enter next season with a front line of Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond. Apr 9 - 8:29 AM

Jason Maxiell will miss the rest of the season due to a detached retina.

It's a disappointing end to Maxiell's season, in which he averaged 6.9 points and 5.7 rebounds in 25 minutes per game. His absence makes Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe even more secure options down the stretch, and Jonas Jerebko figures to pick up extra minutes in a reserve role.
Apr 1 - 5:48 PM

Jason Maxiell will not play Sunday vs. Chicago due to an eye injury.

He didn't even travel to Chicago. The Pistons don't really need him now that Andre Drummond is back and starting. The absence of Maxiell makes Drummond a must-play option today, and it's not clear how much time Maxiell might be forced to miss.

Mar 31 - 5:34 PM

Jason Maxiell returned to action on Wednesday from an ankle injury and had eight points and 14 rebounds in 32 minutes.

Maxiell has been hit or miss all season, and mostly a miss. He's just as likely to have three points and three boards as he is to have a big line, so we'd think about looking elsewhere for help off your waiver wire except in the deepest of leagues.
Mar 14 - 2:18 AM

Jason Maxiell (ankle) has returned to the lineup for Wednesday's game.

He missed Monday's game and the Pistons are very thin these days with Andre Drummond (back) and Brandon Knight (ankle) not close to returning. Maxiell is worth a look in deeper leagues.
Mar 13 - 10:52 PM

Jason Maxiell (right ankle sprain) is doubtful to face the Jazz on Monday.

He's played 27.4 minutes per game in his last five and the Pistons are going to be thin up front against Utah. Jonas Jerebko will start and Charlie Villanueva will also get more playing time. Slava Kravtsov could also get an extended look.

Jason Maxiell shot 7-of-12 from the field for 14 points in Wednesday's tough 87-77 loss to the Knicks, adding nine boards and two blocks in 37 minutes.

The Pistons needed all the minutes Maxiell could give and he held up his end of the bargain. Greg Monroe could miss more time, so he's worth a look as a short-term Band-Aid in deeper leagues. Jonas Jerebko was also solid with 12 points, four boards, two assists, one steal and one 3-pointer in 27 minutes. JJ is also worth a look in deeper leagues.
Mar 6 - 10:32 PM

Jason Maxiell logged his fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds in 23 minutes against the Magic on Tuesday.

He hasn't done much in his previous three games with averages of 5.0 points and 5.0 boards. Maxiell won't be worth owning in most leagues while the Pistons are healthy up front.
Jan 22 - 10:52 PM

Jason Maxiell posted a skeletal double-double on Sunday with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

He made 5-of-8 shots and handed out three assists, just the sort of competent but uninspiring line we've come to expect from Maxiell. This was his second double-double of the year.

Jason Maxiell had just six points, four rebounds and zero blocks in Wednesday's ugly loss to the Raptors.

Maxiell has gone from a rebounding and shot-blocking beast to a guy averaging eight points, three rebounds and less than a block over his last five. And while Lawrence Frank still doesn't sound like he's ready to give up and start Andre Drummond, it simply makes no sense for him not to. The Pistons are 7-21 and have lost six straight games, and replacing Maxiell with Drummond (6 points, 8 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block, 20 minutes) makes sense on every conceivable level. Riding Maxiell was fun when he was hot, but it appears the party is over.

Jason Maxiell failed to score in 25 minutes against the Pacers on Saturday, adding three rebounds, two steals and no blocks.

Owners that have rode Maxiell the past two weeks most likely felt like they've been playing with house money and it was only a matter of time before he laid an egg. He did play 38 minutes on Friday, so those that picked him up might not want to abandon him unless it's for a hot free agent.

Jason Maxiell scored 13 points with two rebounds, one assist and zero blocks in 38 minutes against the Nets on Friday.

Max was coming off a six-block game on Tuesday, but tonight certainly isn't a down note with double-digit scoring in a season-high 38 minutes. It's worth noting that his free throw attempts have gone up lately and he's a career 56.4 percent shooter from the charity stripe.

Jason Maxiell caught fire on Tuesday, hitting 6-of-11 shots for a season-high 18 points, with six rebounds, a steal and a career-high tying six blocks in a tough loss to the Nuggets.

Maxiell was 1-of-10 for two points on Monday, but added 11 rebounds and two more blocks in that one. He's racked up 24 blocks in his last nine games and deserves a close look in all leagues while he's this hot. He's blocked six shots two other times in his career, but the last one came back in 2008, while he's also racked up at least five blocks in three of his last seven games.
Tue, Dec 11, 2012 11:42:00 PM

Jason Maxiell shot 1-of-10 from the field for two points with 11 rebounds, one steal and two blocks in 26 minutes against the Sixers on Monday.

In his six December games, Maxiell has averaged over two blocks per game while averaging eight points and eight boards. However, his upside is capped a bit since coach Lawrence Frank said that the training wheels will come off of Andre Drummond in the future. Maxiell does have some value in deeper leagues, though.
Mon, Dec 10, 2012 09:59:00 PM

Jason Maxiell had five blocks with 12 points and six rebounds in 28 minutes against the Cavs on Monday.

Maxiell is having a block party for the Pistons and now has 13 blocks in his last three games. He is also logging 30.4 minutes in his last five games, which puts him in the discussion for ownership in some standard formats.
