Stan Van Gundy said that claiming Shawne Williams off of waivers "was an easy decision," and he heaped praise on him following his first practice with the team.
"We like to play a good part of the game, two-thirds of it, with the floor spread out," said Van Gundy. "And he gives us another guy, so if we hit foul trouble or injury or anything, we've got another guy to protect us and who I think we can go forward with into next year." While SVG does like what he has, it sounds like he doesn't plan on using his newly acquired asset unless Detroit gets hit by injuries or foul trouble, thus removing Williams from the standard league conversation. The Pistons have reportedly claimed Shawne Williams off waivers.

Williams will slot into the backup power forward slot in Detroit, and he'll now be fighting for reserve minutes with Anthony Tolliver. Both these guys could be headed for a timeshare, and this is a situation that should be avoided in most leagues.

The Pelicans have waived forward Shawne Williams on Sunday.

Williams will likely land on another NBA team for his ability to stretch the floor, but it's hard to imagine him having any significant fantasy value this season. Leave Williams on the wire.

The Pelicans intend to buyout Shawne Williams, whom they acquired as part of Thursday's trade for Norris Cole.

Williams is making $1.2 million this year but the Pelicans have enough help at SF that they're willing to cut him loose. It shouldn't take him long to find a team looking to pad their bench with a 39.5 percent 3-point shooter.
Feb 19 - 4:27 PM

Shawne Williams has been traded to the Pelicans.

The Heat didn't play him at small forward much, but he may play there with his new team. Williams is far from a lock to be in the rotation and isn't worth owning in almost any league.
Feb 19 - 3:28 PM

Shawne Williams (hip) will play against the Knicks on Friday.

He has been on the injury report since Feb. 3, but the Heat aren't necessarily going to use him. Williams plays almost all of his minutes at power forward, so he'll basically need Chris Bosh to miss time in order to get significant minutes.
Feb 18 - 4:42 PM

Shawne Williams (hip) will not play on Wednesday against the Cavaliers.

He was a full participant at the Heat's practice on Tuesday so it looks like he will definitely be back after the All-Star break. However, Williams wasn't in the rotation prior to his injury, so owners in most leagues can ignore this news. Leave Williams on the wire.
Feb 11 - 11:44 AM

Shawne Williams (hip) was a full participant during Tuesday's practice.

We'll be considering Williams questionable for Wednesday's game against the Cavs, although he's not a major part of the Heat's rotation, and would likely be limited if he is able to play. He's not a viable option in most leagues.
Feb 10 - 3:16 PM

Shawne Williams (hip) will not play against the Knicks on Monday.

He was limited in Sunday's practice, but this injury is not considered serious. Williams plays most of his minutes at power forward, so he's going to need a couple starters to miss time to have noteworthy fantasy value.
Feb 9 - 6:03 PM

Shawne Williams (hip) is questionable to play on Monday.

Williams was a limited participants in Sunday's practice, and if he sits out again on Monday, it would be his fourth straight on the sidelines. He's not currently in the rotation, so feel free to monitor his progression from the waiver wire.
Feb 9 - 10:11 AM

Shawne Williams (hip) was a limited participant in Sunday's practice, but coach Erik Spoelstra said he was making progress.

He hasn't played in the Heat's last three games, so his chances of playing against the Knicks on Monday don't look too good. Williams wasn't in the rotation prior to his injury, so it's safe to leave him on the wire in almost all leagues.
Feb 8 - 2:10 PM

Shawne Williams (hip) is listed as doubtful for Friday's game vs. the Spurs.

He hasn't played in the Heat's last two games, and considering that he wasn't in the rotation prior to his injury, owners should leave Williams on the wire in almost all leagues.
Feb 6 - 12:43 PM

Shawne Williams (hip) is not expected to play on Wednesday.

He did not play on Tuesday and the Heat will continue to play Chris Bosh big minutes. Williams plays almost all of his minutes at power forward and Hassan Whiteside breaking out means there are less frontcourt minutes for him.
Feb 4 - 6:46 PM

Shawne Williams (hip) has been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Pistons.

Williams isn't a major part of the Heat's rotation, so there aren't many fantasy implications with him sidelined. Look for Danny Granger and James Ennis to pick up most of his reserve minutes, though neither guy can be viewed as a viable option in most leagues.
Feb 3 - 6:28 PM

Shawne Williams (hip) has missed the last two days of practice.

This news puts Williams' status in doubt for Tuesday's game against the Pistons, but he has mostly fallen out of the Heat's rotation anyway. Williams has only averaged 13.2 points minutes per game over his last five, so fantasy owners can feel free to move on to a player with more upside.
