Leon Powe has officially signed with the Grizzlies.

Powe is a capable veteran who brings more size and toughness to the bench, where he'll backup Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol as Memphis makes their push toward the playoffs. They currently hold the eighth seed in the West, 0.5 game ahead of the Suns and 1.5 games ahead of the Jazz.

The Grizzlies are making a hard push for the playoffs and Powe will be another piece off the bench. When his knees are healthy, Powe has the size and skills to be a quality member of the second unit.

The Memphis Commercial Appeal confirms the Grizzlies' interest, though the Celtics still seem like the front-runner given their history with Powe and obvious championship aspirations.

The Celtics may sign big man Leon Powe, recently released by Cleveland, once he clears waivers.

"I’ll be happy wherever I end up, but Boston is always holding a special place in my heart," Powe said. The 6'8" PF would add more depth to Boston's veteran frontcourt, but it's unlikely he'd have much value. The Knicks and Magic have also been mentioned as possible landing spots.

The Cavaliers had to get the roster down to fifteen players. He is another big body the Celtics may try and acquire.

After the trading fallout the Cleveland Cavaliers are forced to reduce their roster making Leon Powe the most likely target for a buyout.

Powe would join a growing list of players big name players to the buyout list making it possible that he could fall to a less competitive team. Should this happen, there's a chance that he could hold some value. Wait for an official word but a buyout looks likely.

Leon Powe and Jamario Moon have both been mentioned as players whose contracts are likely to be bought out by the Cavs after the trade deadline.

"We're trying to work on something," Powe said of a buyout. "I want an opportunity to play. You brought me out here to play; you might as well just move me on." It's doubtful that either player will have the opportunity they have in Cleveland.

Leon Powe (knee) will return to action for the first time since having knee surgery in January.

Expect small steps out of Powe but the opportunity is there for someone like him to take advantage of a weak Cavs roster. Give him a few games but keep an eye on his minutes and his adjustment.

Powe won't play tonight and is doubtful for Friday, but he is getting close to a return. Depending on what shakes out with the Cavs at the trade deadline, Powe could be a significant part of the rotation over the final two months.

Leon Powe will stay in Cleveland to continue his rehab while the Cavaliers play in Boston on Tuesday.

"I wanted to go out there [to Boston]," said Powe, who used to play for the Celtics. "I haven’t seen some people, especially the fans, in a while." He has begun limited on-court activities and is on pace to return around the All-Star break.
