Thabo Sefolosha (ankle) said he's progressing in his rehab, but is unsure of exactly when he'll be back on the court.
Sefolosha said he's feeling better after undergoing surgery on his broken right fibula that he suffered in an April altercation with police in New York City, but still doesn't have a timetable. "I am doing better every day," Sefolosha said. "The leg and ankle are feeling good but it is too early to say exactly when I’ll be back on the court." There is a chance that Sefolosha ends up as Atlanta's starting small forward with DeMarre Carroll gone, but he's still more of a defensive specialist and isn't worth a roster spot in standard fantasy leagues. Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer hinted that Thabo Sefolosha (ankle) could be the starting small forward in Atlanta now that DeMarre Carroll is no longer with the team.

"Having Thabo having played for a year with us and having him know how we do things defensively and offensively," said Budenholzer. "He’s play on really good teams and on teams in the finals and on teams that have had really good success." It's still unclear if Sefolosha will be ready for the start of the 2015-16 season, but he'll likely be looking at a much larger role with the team when he is able to return to the basketball court. Although, Sefolosha doesn't bring a lot to the stat sheet, so even as a starter for the Hawks, it's unlikely he'd be anything more than a specialist in deep leagues.

Thabo Sefolosha estimated on Wednesday that he'll be back in about four months, but added that he is "just guessing" on that timeline.

That timeline would put Sefolosha back on the basketball court around October or November, so he is in danger of missing the start of the regular-season. With the departure of DeMarre Carroll, Sefolosha could be looking at a larger role with the team, but at best, he's not much more than a 3-point and steals specialist in extremely deep leagues.

The trial for Thabo Sefolosha and Pero Antic has been set for Sept. 9 in New York City.

Both players are contesting charges of obstructing governmental administration and disorderly conduct, as they allegedly prohibited the police from establishing a crime scene. Sefolosha needed leg surgery after being injured by the police, leaving him questionable for training camp, and an inquiry into the NYPD's actions is ongoing.

Thabo Sefolosha said the incident with police in April damaged his reputation.

It also cost the Hawks some of their depth in the playoffs. "I was injured in the hands of the police, and it took away a lot from my everyday life," Sefolosha said. "From being able to help put the kids in bed, going up and down the stairs." For more on this story, click the link below.

Thabo Sefolosha (ankle) joined the Hawks at practice on Monday and took a few shots in his walking boot.

Sefolosha is still out for the rest of the 2014-15 playoffs after undergoing surgery to repair a right fibula fracture and ligament damage, but it's nice to see him making progress. He was using a leg cart when the practice session opened to the media and was able to put up a few shots. While all signs point to Sefolosha being ready for the 2015-16 season, he's much more of a real-life asset to the Hawks than he is a fantasy asset to owners in standard leagues.
May 19 - 9:56 AM

Thabo Sefolosha reportedly underwent surgery on Thursday, and he's expected to be ready for the 2015-16 season opener.

We wish Sefolosha the best, and all signs are pointing towards him making a full recovery. With Thabo out of the picture, Atlanta will give DeMarre Carroll all the run he can handle, while Kent Bazemore having the opportunity for extended minutes off the bench. The Hawks open up their first-round series against the Nets on Sunday.
Apr 17 - 11:19 AM

Thabo Sefolosha addressed the media for the first time on Tuesday since his arrest last Wednesday that resulted in a season-ending broken fibula.

"I will simply say that I am in great pain, that I have suffered significant injury and those were caused by the police." Sefolosha didn't go into a lot of detail, but he did say that he will undergo surgery in the next few days. We'll continue to monitor this story very closely.

NYPD Internal Affairs wants to interview Thabo Sefolosha about last week's nightclub incident, according to reports.

Sefolosha was arrested during the incident and his counsel has since questioned the NYPD's tactics during the arrest. Sefolosha broke his leg during the incident and will miss the rest of the 2015-16 season.

A new video released by TMZ appears to show an officer hitting Thabo Sefolosha with a nightstick.

You can see six different officers tugging Sefolosha around in the video, and then one officer decides to swing his nightstick towards him. Police reports suggest that Sefolosha charged at an officer which started the altercation, but there hasn't been any video evidence to support that claim yet. Sefolosha suffered a broken fibula during the scuffle which will end his NBA season, but this story is far from over and we will continue to pass along updates when we know more. The NBPA is launching an investigation into the tactics used by the NYPD during Thabo Sefolosha's arrest early Wednesday morning that resulted in a season-ending broken fibula that will require surgery.

"The players union is concerned about the circumstances of Thabo Sefolosha and Pero Antic's arrest and is doing its own investigation of the situation," NBPA spokeswoman Tara Greco said. "The union was fully engaged in supporting all three players in court and in the precinct this week, and will continue to stay engaged as each situation evolves." Sefolosha's injury went untreated as he was held in custody, and this is developing into a pretty major story. We'll continue to provide updates as they become available.

Updating a previous report, an X-ray and MRI revealed a fractured fibula and ligament damage in Thabo Sefolosha's right leg, and he will need surgery to correct the injury.

"This is a very difficult situation for Thabo and our thoughts and support will be with him during his recovery. We know that his approach and dedication will serve him well in his rehabilitation," Head Coach Mike Budenholzer said. "Our team remains focused and will be prepared as we head into the postseason." Kent Bazemore is going to pick up most of Sefolosha's minutes, but he's not going to see enough floor time as a reserve to matter in standard leagues.
Apr 9 - 7:06 PM

Thabo Sefolosha has reportedly been diagnosed with a fractured fibia, and he will miss the rest of the 2014-15 season.

Sefolosha suffered the injury during his arrest in New York early Wednesday morning following the stabbing of Chris Copeland and two other women, and he is currently facing charges of resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, and disorderly conduct. Sefolosha was averaging 18.8 minutes per game for the Hawks, and this is a tough blow for Atlanta as they are losing their defensive specialist off the bench. Kent Bazemore will pick up most of Sefolosha's reserve minutes, but 18 minutes isn't enough floor time for Bazemore to produce in a meaningful way in standard leagues.
Apr 9 - 4:16 PM

Thabo Sefolosha suffered an ankle injury during his arrest and will not play against the Nets on Wednesday.

He had a bandage on his right ankle, so it doesn't sound serious. There has been no word of the Hawks resting guys just yet, so the team won't miss Sefolosha too much.
Apr 8 - 5:42 PM

Thabo Sefolosha allegedly "charged at an officer" on Wednesday and has been arrested and charged with resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and disorderly conduct.

These events transpired after Chris Copeland and another woman were brutally attacked by a man wielding a knife, but it's unclear why Thabo Sefolosha and teammate Pero Antic interfered with the crime scene. Sefolosha was seen limping on Wednesday morning, but it's safe to say he won't be taking the court against the Nets tonight. We will pass along further details as soon as we know more. Kent Bazemore will have to step up for the Hawks in Sefolosha's absence.
