Steve Novak has impressed the Jazz since being traded to Utah in July, and coach Quin Snyder is thrilled that Novak "creates so much space" offensively.
"[Offensive spacing] is really important for us because we have some guys who can get to the rim," Snyder said. "We want the ball to break the paint on every possession, so if there’s one fewer man in the lane, it’s a good thing for us." Novak barely played in Toronto last season but it sounds like he'll have a reliable role at SF/PF in Utah, and deep-league owners should watch him as a 3-point specialist. Oct 5 - 8:03 PM

Steve Novak is excited to be joining the Jazz, and likes the system that coach Quin Snyder runs.

"I [am] extremely excited," Novak said. "It’s a young group we have, but we can get a lot better quickly. [Snyder's system is] up-tempo. It’s scoring. It’s shooting. It’s exciting. I think it’s a great fit for me." Novak is a bottom of the bench kind of guy, and he's not likely to have much fantasy value in Utah outside of deep leagues. However, that could change if unrestricted free agents Richard Jefferson and Marvin Williams leave via free agency.
Jul 6 - 12:56 PM

The Jazz acquired Steve Novak in a trade on Friday.

The Raptors will send the remaining two years and $7.2 million left on Novak's contract with a future second-round pick in exchange for Diante Garrett. The Jazz ranked 25th in 3-point percentage last season and Novak could be able to improve on his 10.0 minutes per game from last season. The Jazz are currently thin at small forward, but Marvin Williams has said he wants to return to Utah, which would affect Novak's playing time. He should only be viewed as a specialist in deep fantasy leagues. As a side note, Masai Ujiri may be a magician in his spare time.
Jul 4 - 4:44 PM

Raptors forward Steve Novak made 5-of-6 shots from downtown to finish Sunday's road victory with 15 points and one rebound in 20 minutes.

This perfectly encapsulates Novak's role in Toronto, where he's asked to do little beyond spreading the court with his 3-point shooting. His hot hand made up for John Salmons' lousy two points on 1-of-6 shooting, and it reduced Landry Fields to a virtual DNP-CD. With Patrick Patterson (elbow) expected to miss 7-10 days, there’s a good chance Novak will provide a steady dose of 3-pointers this week.
Mar 9 - 10:17 PM

Steve Novak scored 12 points in 12 minutes during Wednesday's loss to Sacramento.

Nine of Novak's 12 points came from downtown as the Raptors dusted off the 30-year-old from the end of their bench. Novak has had a "DNP-CD" next to his name for four of the Raptors' last nine games, so while he can provide fantasy owners in extremely deep leagues with some help in the 3-pointer category, Novak can be ignored in most fantasy circles.
Feb 6 - 11:22 AM

Steve Novak started for injured DeMar DeRozan on Monday against the Nets and posted just one assist in 22 minutes.

Novak missed five shots too but at that rate who is counting. He probably discount double-checked his way out of the rotation tonight.
Jan 27 - 10:11 PM

Steve Novak will start in place of DeMar DeRozan on Monday night vs. the Nets.

DeRozan did not travel and could miss more time with his sprained foot/ankle. Novak will likely just be more of a placeholder for the starting unit and John Salmons could still see the bulk of the minutes next to Terrence Ross on the wing.
Jan 27 - 6:53 PM

Steve Novak scored three points in 28 minutes vs. the Lakers on Sunday, making 1-of-9 shots from downtown.

He grabbed three rebounds with no other stats to his credit, but this game was more encouraging than it may appear at first glance. The 28 minutes were a season-high, as were his nine shots, and the fact that they were all 3-point attempts is terrific for a career 43.1 percent 3-point marksman. John Salmons and Patrick Patterson present a renewed threat to Novak's bench role, however, so he's best avoided until the dust settles.

Steve Novak's back is feeling better and he'll be available for Friday's game against the Bulls.

He hasn't done much this season but it is possible he could get hot down the road and start making a lot of 3-pointers. Just keep an eye on him in case it happens.

Steve Novak (back) will not play against the Rockets on Monday.

He's been in and out of the lineup with this back injury and was more or less out of the rotation to begin with. Novak has no fantasy value.
Mon, Nov 11, 2013 06:43:00 PM

Steve Novak is active for Friday's game against the Pacers.

He has been out of the lineup with hand and back issues. Novak probably won't be in the rotation tonight unless the Raptors desperately need some 3-point output.

Steve Novak (stiff back) will sit out a third consecutive game on Tuesday.

His thumb is also sore and he's been wearing a wrap during practices, but the back injury is what's keeping him on the injury report. Landry Fields and Terrence Ross will get a few extra minutes in his absence.
Tue, Nov 5, 2013 05:37:00 PM

Steve Novak's ailing back has improved enough that he's questionable to play the Heat on Tuesday.

He's still practicing with a wrap to protect his thumb and fantasy owners can safely ignore the sharp-shooting forward in Toronto's four-game week.
Mon, Nov 4, 2013 02:25:00 PM

Steve Novak (back) is on the inactive list for Friday's game.

He played just seven minutes and hit one 3-pointer in the opener. Novak is more of emergency depth and is off the radar in fantasy leagues.
Fri, Nov 1, 2013 06:09:00 PM

Steve Novak (hand) played seven minutes and hit one 3-pointer in his Raptors debut on Wednesday.

His hand injury cost him some time in the preseason and he has been expected to start for the opener for over a week. Novak won't be much of a factor while the Raptors are healthy.
