Knicks forward Steve Novak (back spasms) played under two minutes in his return from a three-game absence on Saturday.

He didn't leave the bench until the Knicks faced a 13-point deficit late in the game, and it's doubtful his role will increase with Amare Stoudemire (knee) back in the rotation.

Steve Novak (back) is active for Tuesday's Game 2 against the Pacers.

"We'll try to get him in if we can," coach Mike Woodson said. Novak was averaging just 8.3 minutes per game before hurting his back in Game 5 against the Celtics. Meanwhile, the Knicks are riding with the same starting five Tuesday night as they used in Game 1: Raymond Felton, Pablo Prigioni, Iman Shumpert, Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler.

Updating a previous item, Steve Novak (back) is now a game-time decision for Tuesday's Game 2 vs. Indiana.

Novak was previously expected to be out, but he went through shootaround and is a game-time call as a result. Even if he plays, it isn't likely going to be for an extended period.

Novak is tentatively eyeing a return for Game 3, but it's telling of how bad his back is that he's not even able to get on the floor right now. When he does return, Chris Copeland's spot in the rotation will be in jeopardy.

The Knicks play Game 2 on Saturday, then have a huge break by not playing in Indiana until Saturday night. Novak played just 8.4 minutes per game during the series against the Celtics, so his loss won't impact the Knicks rotation too much in Game 1 and 2.

Novak didn't play in Game 6 on Friday night after his back began to spasm during Wednesday's game. The Knicks are tagging him as out "indefinitely" for the moment, with Mike Woodson not even sure if Novak can return in time for Game 2. Chris Copeland could see some extra minutes if his shoulder heals up a bit between now and tip-off Sunday.

Steve Novak (back) is questionable for Game 6 vs. Boston on Friday, but Mike Woodson referred to him as "doubtful" on Thursday.

Novak played just three minutes on Wednesday and didn't return in the second half. His absence wouldn't impact much as he's played over 9.5 minutes just once in the playoffs so far. Chris Copeland could pick up a few minutes if Novak sits.

He played just 9.5 minutes per game in the first four games of the series, so his loss isn't too much of a problem for the Knicks. Novak should for considered questionable for the next Knicks game.

Steve Novak was 5-of-7 from downtown in Monday's loss to the Bobcats, scoring 17 points with seven boards in 41 minutes.

He's been lights out from deep all year and raised his 3-point shooting to 42.9 percent, which ranks 10th in the league. Novak moved up to 20th on the season in 3-point makes and could have another chance to shine in Wednesday's finale.

Steve Novak scored six points on two 3-pointers in his 18 minutes of action in Sunday's 90-80 win over the Pacers.

He really hasn't done much in April, averaging just 5.7 points in April. Now that the Knicks are going to rest players, Novak should be the trigger man on a team that just set the record for most 3-pointers in season. He's worth a look for any owner needing treys.

He's gone cold from deep, missing all 11 attempts in his last three games. The timing couldn't be worse for the Knicks and Novak doesn't really do enough for consideration in most fantasy leagues.

Steve Novak scored 20 points in Saturday's easy win vs. the Jazz, going 5-of-10 from downtown with two assists and one steal in 26 minutes.

The Knicks already rank first in the NBA in 3-pointers per game (10.8) and Amare Stoudemire's absence may emphasize their reliance on perimeter shooting, which can only help Novak's fantasy appeal. He's a prototypical 3-point specialist.
