Sean Williams and Hassan Whiteside remain "in the mix" for the Timberwolves, according to ESPN 1500's Darren Wolfson.
The Timberwolves need a bargain bin big man and are shopping in the right department. If either player were signed, he would offer no fantasy value and would be an insurance policy behind Nikola Pekovic and Greg Stiemsma. Wed, Sep 19, 2012 08:10:00 AM

The Timberwolves still have unrestricted FA Sean Williams "on the radar."

It seems that Minnesota is interested in virtually any and every big man who may be willing to sign for the veteran's minimum as the team looks for a backup behind Nikola Pekovic and Greg Stiemsma. Minny has been linked to Williams, Anthony Tolliver, Mehmet Okur and Hassan Whiteside most notably, but none of those players listed would offer fantasy value barring injury to Big Pek.

The Knicks are "considering signing" free agent F/C Sean Williams, according to ESPN New York.

The Heat may also have interest in Williams, but he could have a bigger role off the Knicks' bench -- New York's current frontcourt reserves are Marcus Camby, Kurt Thomas and (if he makes the team) Chris Copeland.

The Timberwolves are said to be interested in taking a look at recently waived F/C Sean Williams.

GM David Kahn is supposedly talking to a number of agents about adding a post-player to Minnesota's rotation, but to sign anyone for more than the league minimum, they would have to trade or cut a guard first to make a signing fit under the salary cap. Anthony Tolliver, Mehmet Okur and Hassan Whiteside have also been mentioned as potential big man targets for the Timberwolves. Williams would not offer any fantasy value this season in Minnesota.

The Heat "are bound to consider" Sean Williams after he was waived by the Rockets, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

Stein is simply speculating here, but he notes that the team had previous interest in Williams and Miami is "in the market for bigs." Miami might add a big man for depth on a veteran's minimum deal, but there has been nothing to suggest the club will seriously consider Williams.

The Rockets waived Sean Williams on Monday, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.com.

Stein added that Miami has expressed interest in the former Boston College Eagle. While Williams was once viewed as one of the most athletic big men in the 2007 draft, he will have a tough time cracking any NBA rotation.

Sean Williams has been officially traded to the Rockets as part of the deal that landed Courtney Lee in Boston.

Williams owns career averages of 4.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 137 games (29 starts) with New Jersey, Dallas and Boston, but is not expected have an impact in Houston. He may not even make the opening-night roster.

Celtics F/C Sean Williams was sent to the Rockets as part of the Courtney Lee deal on Thursday.

Williams was signed at the end of the season by the Celtics because they were depleted at center, but there's a decent chance he won't be on Houston's opening-night roster.

The Celtics are ready to sign F/C Sean Williams and waive Jermaine O'Neal.

Given the Celtics depleted front court (Kevin Garnett starts at center) the move makes a lot of sense. Williams last played in the NBA for Dallas and has been in the D-League. He would help Greg Stiemsma off the bench.

Sean Williams will rejoin the Texas Legends of the D-League.

Williams is no longer on Dallas' roster, but he'll wrap up the end of the D-League season with the Legends after clearing waivers.

Mavericks recalled C Sean Williams from the Texas Legends of the D-League.

The Mavs are looking for healthy bigs with Brendan Haywood (ankle) out for the next five games. Williams averaged 3.8 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 11.3 minutes per game during his recent four-game stint in the rotation, and should be about what to expect if he ends up topping 10+ mpg.

It's further confirmation that both Brenden Haywood (ankle) and Brandan Wright (concussion) are ready to go. Williams averaged 3.8 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 11.3 minutes per game during his four-game stint in the rotation.
