Josh McRoberts (toe surgery) has been participating in more of Heat practice.
McRoberts' availability for opening night is in doubt following his toe surgery, but it's good news to hear that his practice activity is on the upswing. While his 2013-14 stats won't jump off the page, McBob is still worth a later round pick in standard fantasy leagues due to his three-point shooting ability. Oct 9 - 1:06 PM

Coach Erik Spoelstra indicated that Josh McRoberts (toe surgery) might not be ready for the beginning of the regular season.

McRoberts was already expected to miss most of Miami's preseason, but this is the first time we're hearing he might not be ready for the regular season. While McBob might miss some regular season action, this injury isn't serious enough to keep him out for an extended period of time. He'll be worth a late-round selection in standard leagues for his ability to hit 3-pointers (1.3) and dish out assists (4.3), while limiting his turnovers (1.1).

Josh McRoberts (toe surgery) will not play in Miami's preseason opener vs. New Orleans on Saturday.

McRoberts is expected to miss most or all of the Heat's preseason games, so there's no surprise here. However, he's hopeful to be ready once the regular season begins. McRoberts averaged 8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.3 three-pointers with Charlotte last season, and while those numbers aren't exactly impressive, his ability to chip in some treys and assists from the power forward position make him worthy of a late-round selection in standard leagues.

Josh McRoberts (toe surgery) will miss most or all of the Heat's preseason, according to Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer.

McRoberts is still planning on being ready for opening, but it sounds like he won't get much of a chance to shake the rust off before the regular season starts. McBob's 8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.3 three-pointers with Charlotte last season don't scream fantasy value, but his ability to hit the three makes him worth a late selection in standard leagues.
Oct 2 - 10:19 AM

Heat PF Josh McRoberts (toe surgery) returned to practice on Tuesday, but he'll sit out Wednesday's scrimmage as a precaution.

McRoberts anticipates being fully healthy for opening night. He's is the uncontested starting PF for Miami this season, with Udonis Haslem as his most prominent backup, so minutes should be plentiful. He may not control the ball as often as he did last year but fantasy owners can still rely on him for a unique combination of 3-pointers, assists and some defensive stats, all with admirably few turnovers.
Oct 1 - 12:38 PM

Josh McRoberts confirmed that he had toe surgery immediately following the conclusion of the 2013-14 season, but he'll be ready to go when the regular season begins.

McRoberts numbers don't jump off the page, as he averaged 8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.1 turnovers, and 1.3 three-pointers with Charlotte last season, but his ability to offer treys and assists from the power forward position makes him worthy of a late-round selection in standard leagues.

Unrestricted free agent Josh McRoberts has reportedly verbally committed to sign with Miami.

The deal is reportedly for the full mid-level exception for four-years, and $23 million with a player option after the third year. McRoberts is a solid role player, and a stretch four that can spread the floor with his shooting and passing abilities. While McRoberts was a sneaky low-end contributor last year, his statistical output in Miami is unlikely to help a fantasy squad. The Hornets lose their starting power forward, which opens up the door for Cody Zeller and Noah Vonleh to compete for minutes. It will be interesting to see how the rotations in Charlotte develop, and we'll be monitoring that situation closely.
Jul 7 - 3:11 PM

Unrestricted free agent Josh McRoberts is "emerging as a serious free agent candidate" for the Heat, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

The Heat are likely hoping to get McRoberts on a full mid-level exception. McRoberts declined his $2.8 million option and should get a bigger deal after a terrific 2013-14 season. The Hornets/Bobcats have drafted a power forward in the lottery in each of the last two seasons, so they may not make a very compelling offer. Still, the Hornets are probably the favorite to bring him back.

The Trail Blazers and unrestricted free agent Josh McRoberts have mutual interest, according to Chris Haynes of

The Blazers reached out to McRoberts' representatives soon after free agency opened, and league sources told that he's "fond of Portland." Damian Lillard has lobbied for Portland to sign Channing Frye, and Spencer Hawes is also in the mix, but one way or another the Blazers seem intent upon upgrading their frontcourt depth. Hornets writer Rick Bonnell also reports that Charlotte has "absolutely" expressed interest in retaining McRoberts.
Jul 1 - 2:44 PM

Hornets coach Steve Clifford texted Josh McRoberts and Cody Zeller last night to say that drafting Noah Vonleh doesn't change how the Hornets value them.

McRoberts, while his stats don't jump off the page, had a nice 2013-14 season, and perhaps earned himself a bit of a pay bump. McBob dished out 4.3 assists per game with just 1.1 turnovers, while spreading the floor with his 3-point shooting. While the Hornets would like to bring him back, it's possible he receives an offer on the open market that Charlotte simply can't match. If McRoberts doesn't return with Charlotte, Vonleh and Zeller will split minutes at the power forward spot.
Jun 27 - 3:10 PM

General manager Rich Cho said drafting Noah Vonleh doesn't change the interest in re-signing Josh McRoberts.

The Hornets have used two lottery picks in the past two seasons on power forwards, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see them not bring back McRoberts, despite how he was outstanding last year. Plus, Vonleh is expected to play more out of the high post and further from the basket, much like how McBob did. He's an unrestricted free agent and the Hornets may opt to use their cap space in other areas.
Jun 27 - 2:20 PM

Josh McRoberts will be an unrestricted free agent this summer after declining his $2.8 million player option for 2014-15.

This was a logical decision for McRoberts, who should be able to land a significantly higher annual salary on a multi-year contract. Although he only averaged 8.5 points last season, he stretched the court with solid 3-point shooting and dished out 4.3 assists with only 1.1 turnovers per game, giving him the league's second best assist-to-turnover ratio behind only Chris Paul. McRoberts is currently recovering from toe surgery he had in late April, but he should be 100 percent recovered for training camp.
Jun 18 - 1:43 PM

Josh McRoberts underwent successful surgery on Wednesday to remove bone spurs from his left big toe.

McBob will avoid basketball activities for four weeks but the impending free agent will be fully recovered in time for training camp. He was useful in some fantasy leagues this season but should lose time to Cody Zeller next season, if Zeller continues to develop over the summer.
Apr 30 - 8:34 PM

Josh McRoberts has an opt out clause in his contract that he can exercise after the 2013-14 season.

McRoberts can opt out of his contract after the 2013-14 season, but 42 minutes of playing time in a Game 4 loss Monday night indicates that coach Steve Clifford hopes McBob sticks around. McRoberts averaged 38.3 minutes per game in the Bobcats' opening round loss to the Heat and put up averages of 11.5 points, 2.0 3-pointers, 6.8 boards, 3.8 dimes, and 1.0 steals in the series. With those types of minutes and numbers, McRoberts could provide owners with late-round value next season and it would be a surprise to see the Bobcats let him leave Charlotte.
Apr 29 - 9:37 AM

Josh McRoberts had 13 points, nine rebounds, a steal and two 3-pointers on 3-of-9 shooting in Saturday's Game 3 loss to the Heat.

He also tackled LeBron James a couple times, but it didn't slow him or the Heat down tonight. This series is, as the Replacements once said, "all over but the shouting."
