The New York Times reports that the Knicks signed Sun Yue to a partially guaranteed contract.

The 6'9" guard played a total of 28 minutes for the Lakers last season, and there's a chance he won't even make the Knicks' regular season roster.

The Lakers on Friday waived guard Sun Yue.

Yue skipped summer league to play in China, which appears to have sealed his fate. They're also going to have to pay some luxury tax, and dumping Yue will save them about $1.5 million. He wasn't set to get many minutes anyway.

Lakers assistant GM Ronnie Lester said on Saturday that Sun Yue might be the "odd-man out" of the regular season roster.

Yue has skipped summer league for two consecutive years, opting to play overseas, which doesn't sit well with the Lakers. L.A. wants a maximum of 13 players heading into the season, and Yue is not a significant role player anyway.

Sun Yue, who has been playing in the D-League, sprained his ankle on Monday and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Not that he would have had any fantasy value over the duration of the season anyway. Sun finishes his rookie year having averaged 0.6 points in 10 games and will need to make a significant leap to claim a spot in the Lakers' rotation in 2009-10.

Sun Yue will return to the Lakers as soon as Friday, according to the L.A. Times.

Yue averaged 10 points on 37.5% shooting with 3.3 assists per game for the D-Fenders, prompting Phil Jackson to say "his stats haven't been outstanding." Yue will not be a fantasy factor this year, but China's Magic Johnson could emerge down the road.

Rookie Sun Yue made his NBA debut on Sunday and scored four points on 2-of-3 shooting with no rebounds or assists.

Yue got activated when Luke Walton left the stadium with a respiratory infection, and was sent into the game when the Lakers started to blow out the Bucks. "China's Magic Johnson" got a warm ovation from the fans, who are intrigued by his size for being a PG.

He's only with the team because Phil Jackson likes having an extra body around for practice, and he could end up the D-League soon. No fantasy value here.

Lakers rookie Sun Yue sprained his left foot recently and will undergo medical testing on Monday.

Sun was not sure how he injured the foot and he might not accompany the team on its upcoming trip. He will likely be sent to the D-League in the near future, and has no fantasy value.

He should make the team but will probably spend a lot of time in street clothes and the D-League this season.

The Lakers officially signed Chinese guard Sun Yue to a multi-year contract on Monday.

Details were not disclosed, but it is believed to be a two-year deal. He will compete for playing time at both guard positions, but shouldn't offer any fantasy value this season.
