Joel Anthony will re-sign with the Pistons on a two-year deal worth $5 million.
He only played 8.3 minutes per game in 49 outings and was basically only in the game when the Pistons had injuries or during garbage time. Anthony has no fantasy value. The second year of this deal is not guaranteed. Jul 8 - 4:23 PM

The Pistons want to re-sign Joel Anthony this offseason.

This is Anthony's first blurb in three months, an indication of his fantasy value. "Obviously we can't negotiate with him yet, we can't talk money," Van Gundy said. "I talked to him (Friday). Again, we've told him consistently we would like to have him back."

Joel Anthony swatted three shots and grabbed five rebounds in just nine minutes off Detroit's bench on Sunday.

The Pistons' veteran center has a ridiculous block percentage of 9.1 percent this season and he's useful as a streamer for blocks, with a handful of rebounds as an added bonus. Anthony's minutes have increased slightly since Greg Monroe (knee) went down, and it's still a tiny sample size, but for perspective consider that league-leader Rudy Gobert has a block percentage of 7.2 percent.

Joel Anthony (groin) will not play on Tuesday vs. the Lakers.

He reportedly felt better during the Pistons' shootaround but coach Stan Van Gundy opted to keep him on the inactive list. Anthony has no fantasy appeal even when he's 100 percent healthy.
Mar 10 - 10:43 PM

Joel Anthony (groin) will not play vs. the Hornets on Sunday.

He is not a part of the rotation in Detroit anyways, so his absence won't have any fantasy implications. Leave Anthony on the wire.
Mar 8 - 5:59 PM

Joel Anthony (groin) will be traded to the Pistons in exchange for Will Bynum.

The Pistons are going to use Greg Monroe to soak up a lot of minutes at center, so Anthony's role is not going to be significant with his new team. He has no fantasy value and might not even have made the Celtics.

Joel Anthony (groin) was withheld from Friday's scrimmage.

Anthony is just an emergency depth guy for the Celtics, and he's not going to average enough minutes for standard league consideration.

Joel Anthony (groin) was held out of Thursday's scrimmage.

He did some light work on the side and the injury is not considered serious. Anthony is likely just emergency depth this season.

Celtics veteran Joel Anthony was limited throughout Tuesday's practice due to a groin injury.

Anthony is owed a guaranteed $3.8 million and a buyout hasn't been mentioned, so the Celtics should keep him on the roster as insurance behind Kelly Olynyk, Tyler Zeller, Jared Sullinger and Vitor Faverani.

A source tells CSNNW.com that Celtics F/C Joel Anthony will exercise his player option for the 2014/15 season.

It's a no-brainer decision for Anthony as he'll earn a guaranteed $3.8 million next season and then become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2015. He averaged 7.1 minutes per game in 21 appearances for the Celtics this season.

Joel Anthony isn't sure whether he'll exercise his $3.8 million option to stay with the Celtics next season.

That's a much richer deal than Anthony could earn as a free agent, so it would be surprising if he left Boston even though he's not currently part of the rotation. He's a fantasy pariah no matter where he's playing.

Joel Anthony practiced with the Celtics on Thursday.

It is unclear how much the newly-acquired Anthony will play with the struggling Celtics, but he isn't worth fantasy owners' time in anything but the deepest of leagues. The Celtics are in full rebuilding mode and will likely dedicate minutes to developing younger players rather than giving Anthony full run.

The Heat traded Joel Anthony and two draft picks to the Celtics on Wednesday, getting back PG Toney Douglas from the Warriors in exchange.

Anthony was a staple of trade chatter for the Heat, which makes sense since he's barely played for them all season. He has a $3.8 million player option for next season and the Celtics may give him some minutes to see what he has left in the tank, but he's not a viable fantasy option.

Heat writer Brian Windhorst reports that Miami is looking for an additional guard to backup Dwayne Wade on his off days.

Wade's balky knees have already caused him to miss five games so far this season, and Miami is looking for a serviceable backup to start when Wade is absent. Joel Anthony's name has popped up a lot on the trading block this season, however it's unclear whom they will be able to get in return. Regardless of whom they get, the Heat's rotation is locked up, and the new addition would likely not have any fantasy appeal.

Joel Anthony wasn't upset by his limited minutes in the playoffs last season, and he hopes to retire with the Heat.

"It's not an issue of whether you're going to play or get minutes, the most important thing is that we went out to win a championship," Anthony said. His role will likely dwindle further now that Greg Oden has signed with Miami, and there has been some speculation that the Heat will try to trade him (and his remaining $7.6 million over two years).
