It's a tough break for West, who was just signed to a 10-day contract. He started three games for New Jersey, averaging just 1.7 points in 21.3 minutes during those games.

The Nets waived Quinton Ross so they could take a look at West over the final stretch of the season. West appeared in 156 NBA games with the Hawks between 2007 and 2010.

The high-energy swingman isn't a fantasy asset but he continues to win over coaches and teammates with his hustle. "[West] just plays hard ... and he could be a defensive stopper," said Doc Rivers. "He needs to improve his offense, but the guys love him because of the way he plays."

They're pretty deep at guard, but West was a crowd favorite in Atlanta and is all hustle, all the time. It would not be surprising to see him catch on with an NBA team this season.

West has appeared in eight games during two 10-day stints, averaging just six minutes per game. He had been playing in the D-League for the Maine Red Claws and clearly has no fantasy appeal.

West hasn't had a guaranteed contract since entering the NBA, so he's probably used to this sort of pressure. His averages last season (0.8 points, 1.1 rebounds) make it obvious why fantasy owners shouldn't bother with him.

Hawks swingman Mario West played a team-high 39 minutes on Tuesday, but finished with just three points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Prior to Tuesday, West hadn't played more than 14 minutes in a game this season. He probably isn't worth picking up, even if he gets extensive minutes in Wednesday's game at Memphis.
