C.J. Watson (sore right Achilles) will not return on Wednesday against the Spurs.
It is just soreness for Watson and nothing really looked too bad during the game. He'll have the All-Star break to get right. Elfrid Payton started the third quarter for this game, but D.J. Augustin should play a lot with this game headed to garbage time. Watson finished with four points, three rebounds, four assists and one steal in 18 minutes. Feb 15 - 8:23 PM

C.J. Watson was quiet in another start on Monday, finishing a road victory with five points on 2-of-6 shooting, one 3-pointer and one assist in 17 minutes.

Elfrid Payton logged 31 minutes off the bench and D.J. Augustin played 15 minutes. Watson's starting gig is tenuous, given Frank Vogel's penchant for mixing things up, and he's only worth considering in very deep leagues.
Feb 13 - 10:21 PM

Magic coach Frank Vogel suggested that he might tweak his starting lineup again after Saturday's loss to the Mavericks.

"The bench unit the last two games has come in and created big deficits," Vogel said. "We went away from it early tonight, and it didn’t work. Coming back to the starters didn’t work. Maybe that group’s not a good fit, so we have to shuffle the deck again and figure it out again." C.J. Watson and Mario Hezonja are the most obvious candidates to be benched, but anything is possible with Vogel at the helm.
Feb 13 - 12:29 AM

C.J. Watson will start at point guard on Saturday vs. the Mavs.

Watson also started over Elfrid Payton on Thursday vs. the Sixers. Watson finished with 11 points, three rebounds, four assists and five turnovers in 28 minutes. Payton had 15 points, one rebound, three assists and two turnovers in 26 minutes. We can expect a similar distribution of minutes on Saturday.
Feb 10 - 1:51 PM

C.J. Watson started at point guard against the 76ers on Thursday, finishing with 11 points, three rebounds, four assists, one steal, five turnovers and one 3-pointer in 28 minutes.

Coach Frank Vogel said Watson started because he's has been the Magic’s best defensive point guard and he was looking for a spark in the first unit. Well, that didn't happen. Watson gave up the game-winning bucket to T.J. McConnell and the Magic couldn't get a home win against the Joel Embiid-less 76ers. We're expecting Watson to shift back to the bench very soon, but you never know with Vogel.
Feb 9 - 10:08 PM

C.J. Watson will start at point guard and Elfrid Payton will move to the bench against the 76ers on Thursday.

Coach Frank Vogel is really mixing it up today with another new lineup combo. Watson has played 26 minutes per game in his last five and has recently seen more minutes at the one. This move likely means there will be more play-making chances for Evan Fournier while it also hurts D.J. Augustin. While Watson is playing better, we can't sign off on him as an add unless you're cutting dead weight.
Feb 9 - 5:30 PM

C.J. Watson may be moved at the trade deadline, according to sources of Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders.

Watson would likely just be a throw in piece as part of a larger deal, and while he's a quality reserve, it's unlikely he'll have much fantasy value regardless of where he winds up.
Feb 7 - 4:53 PM

C.J. Watson scored 18 points with three rebounds, four assists, one block, two steals and one 3-pointer in 32 minutes against the Raptors on Friday.

He had the hot hand and coach Frank Vogel rode him in the second half with perhaps more small lineups than the Magic have used all season. He played 19 minutes in the last game, which is a better expectation going forward. He isn't worth adding here.
Feb 3 - 10:16 PM

C.J. Watson headed to the Magic bench on Wednesday, where he posted five points with one assist and two steals.

The veteran guard logged 19 minutes tonight, and Evan Fournier's return to health eliminates what little appeal Watson held in his absence.
Feb 1 - 9:51 PM

C.J. Watson will return to the bench for Wednesday's game against the Pacers.

Watson had his best game as a starter on Monday, scoring 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting in 34 minutes, but his playing time will likely fall back to the teens with Evan Fournier back in the starting five. If you picked up Watson for his short-term value while Fournier was out, it makes sense to go ahead and send him back to the wire.
Feb 1 - 5:22 PM

C.J. Watson scored a season-high 18 points vs. the Wolves on Monday.

He shot 6-of-10 from the field and played 34 minutes in the overtime loss, adding four boards, two assists, two steals and one 3-pointer. He played well tonight and was coming off a 15-point effort on Sunday, but Evan Fournier (heel) is being eased back into action and Watson's minutes are only going to trend down from here.
Jan 30 - 11:45 PM

C.J. Watson scored a season-high 15 points with one assist, one rebound and one steal in Sunday's 114-113 win over the Raptors.

Over the last five games, Watson has averaged 31.2 minutes, 9.6 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. He has received several starts with Evan Fournier (foot) out, but has not done much with the opportunities. Once Fournier is back, Watson will go back to his bench role.
Jan 29 - 10:28 PM

C.J. Watson moved back into the starting lineup against the Celtics during an ugly 128-98 loss on Friday, scoring nine points with one rebound, four assists, one steal and one 3-pointer in 32 minutes.

We can pretty much just throw this game out for the Magic. Watson will continue to start at shooting guard until Evan Fournier (foot) is back, but he just doesn't do much to matter. In his previous starts, he averaged 8.5 points, 3.5 boards, 3.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.0 treys on 33.3 percent from the field. No thanks.
Jan 27 - 10:07 PM

C.J. Watson will start at shooting guard on Friday night vs. Boston

Watson started at SG for two games last week. Despite playing 33.5 minutes per game, he averaged just 8.5 points and 3.5 rebounds. He can be left on waiver wires. Watson will also likely see fewer minutes on Friday due to the return of D.J. Augustin (ankle), who is returning.
Jan 27 - 6:34 PM

C.J. Watson came off the bench and hit 3-of-6 shots for seven points and six assists in 23 minutes on Tuesday.

He had been starting with so many backcourt injuries for the Magic (D.J. Augustin, Evan Fournier, Jodie Meeks) but the Magic decided to go bigger and start Jeff Green tonight. Watson was only worth a punt play in DFS when he was starting, and he should be ignored as long as he's coming off the bench.
