C.J. Watson (Achilles) played 11 minutes in his return to action on Friday vs. the Heat, finishing scoreless on 0-of-2 shooting.

He had a minutes limit because he was returning from a three-game absence, but as much as coach Frank Vogel likes him, his outlook is poor on the rebuilding Magic. He added three assists and one rebound and has very little fantasy value.
Mar 3 - 10:17 PM

C.J. Watson (Achilles) will be on a minutes limit in his return to action Friday night vs. the Heat.

Watson, who had missed four straight games, will come off the bench. Elfrid Payton will remain in the starting lineup on Friday. Orlando has not stated exactly how many minutes they want Watson to play. He can be left on waiver wires.

C.J. Watson (Achilles) will play Friday night vs. the Heat.

Watson has missed each of Orlando's three previous games. However, he had started four consecutive contests prior to suffering the Achilles injury. As of now, it is unknown if Watson will replace Elfrid Payton in the starting lineup but Watson's return will certainly eat into Payton and D.J. Augustin's minutes. There's no need to grab Watson off the wire.
Mar 3 - 11:13 AM

C.J. Watson (Achilles) returned to practice on Thursday.

After missing three games in a row, we'll consider Watson as questionable for Friday's game vs. the Heat. Head coach Frank Vogel loves Watson, so his return could take some minutes away from Elfrid Payton and D.J. Augustin. He's not a fantasy pickup.
Mar 2 - 2:18 PM

C.J. Watson (Achilles) has shed his walking boot, but he is still not practicing.

Watson remains without an official return date, and he belongs on the waiver wire in all leagues. Elfrid Payton, D.J. Augustin and Mario Hezonja will continue to split his minutes.
Feb 28 - 2:02 PM

C.J. Watson (Achilles) will miss at least another a week.

Watson injured the Achilles in the Magic's last game before the All-Star break, but it did not improve as hoped over the last week. As a result, the Magic have discussed signing another point guard to a 10-day contract. With Watson sidelined, Elfrid Payton, D.J. Augustin and Mario Hezonja will divvy up his minutes.
Feb 25 - 11:16 AM

C.J. Watson (Achilles) is listed as out in the game notes for Saturday's matchup with the Hawks.

Watson also sat out Thursday's contest. Elfrid Payton was plugged into the starting lineup on Thursday, but was relatively quiet and played just 22 minutes. D.J. Augustin played 25 minutes off the bench. Mario Hezonja also saw 25 minutes off the bench and scored 10 points.

C.J. Watson (Achilles) will not play against the Blazers on Thursday.

The means Elfrid Payton is expected to start tonight with D.J. Augustin likely to back him up. Although, the Magic could be making a move with DJA's name popping up in rumors. Watson is 32 years old and could need some time to recover from this strained Achilles.
Feb 23 - 11:14 AM

C.J. Watson (sore right Achilles) was not able to practice on Tuesday and he's expected to undergo an MRI on Wednesday.

This is concerning given that Watson had the entire All-Star break to rest up, but we'll wait for the MRI results before making any speculation on a timetable. Orlando's first game after the break comes Thursday vs. Portland, and if Watson can't give it a go, we could see Elfrid Payton back in the starting five with D.J. Augustin logging extended minutes off the bench. Stay tuned.
Feb 21 - 6:16 PM

C.J. Watson (sore right Achilles) will not return on Wednesday against the Spurs.

It is just soreness for Watson and nothing really looked too bad during the game. He'll have the All-Star break to get right. Elfrid Payton started the third quarter for this game, but D.J. Augustin should play a lot with this game headed to garbage time. Watson finished with four points, three rebounds, four assists and one steal in 18 minutes.
Feb 15 - 8:23 PM

C.J. Watson was quiet in another start on Monday, finishing a road victory with five points on 2-of-6 shooting, one 3-pointer and one assist in 17 minutes.

Elfrid Payton logged 31 minutes off the bench and D.J. Augustin played 15 minutes. Watson's starting gig is tenuous, given Frank Vogel's penchant for mixing things up, and he's only worth considering in very deep leagues.
Feb 13 - 10:21 PM

Magic coach Frank Vogel suggested that he might tweak his starting lineup again after Saturday's loss to the Mavericks.

"The bench unit the last two games has come in and created big deficits," Vogel said. "We went away from it early tonight, and it didn’t work. Coming back to the starters didn’t work. Maybe that group’s not a good fit, so we have to shuffle the deck again and figure it out again." C.J. Watson and Mario Hezonja are the most obvious candidates to be benched, but anything is possible with Vogel at the helm.
Feb 13 - 12:29 AM

C.J. Watson will start at point guard on Saturday vs. the Mavs.

Watson also started over Elfrid Payton on Thursday vs. the Sixers. Watson finished with 11 points, three rebounds, four assists and five turnovers in 28 minutes. Payton had 15 points, one rebound, three assists and two turnovers in 26 minutes. We can expect a similar distribution of minutes on Saturday.
Feb 10 - 1:51 PM

C.J. Watson started at point guard against the 76ers on Thursday, finishing with 11 points, three rebounds, four assists, one steal, five turnovers and one 3-pointer in 28 minutes.

Coach Frank Vogel said Watson started because he's has been the Magic’s best defensive point guard and he was looking for a spark in the first unit. Well, that didn't happen. Watson gave up the game-winning bucket to T.J. McConnell and the Magic couldn't get a home win against the Joel Embiid-less 76ers. We're expecting Watson to shift back to the bench very soon, but you never know with Vogel.
