The Cavs "might kick the tires" on O.J. Mayo as an unrestricted free agent.
It doesn't sound as if Mayo will be a priority, and he shouldn't be. The team drafted Dion Waiters No. 4 overall in 2012 and has committed to developing him alongside Kyrie Irving. Cleveland would be better off delegating their cap space elsewhere. May 13 - 9:16 AM

ESPN 1500's Darren Wolfson has "heard from multiple angles" that Flip Saunders will pursue O.J. Mayo as an unrestricted free agent.

Mayo opted out of his deal in Dallas and is likely looking to get paid on a multi-year deal, and Minnesota has a clear need for a real shooting guard. Wolfson is unsure how Mayo would fit into the equation given the team needs the necessary cap space and the club has a looming decision to make on restricted free agent Nikola Pekovic, but it's obvious Saunders is wasting no time leaving his stamp on the franchise and constructing his kind of roster.

The Pistons are expected to target a shooting guard in free agency.

That would be a good idea considering it's an obvious area of need. Along with O.J. Mayo, the Detroit News suggests names like Andre Iguodala, Tony Allen and Kevin Martin as potential fits for different reasons. However, the report cautions it's "more likely" the team will be active on the trade front, and that makes some sense considering the last time the Pistons were flush with cap space the team wound up with Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva on bloated five-year deals.

Impending free agent O.J. Mayo said he hopes to work out a long-term deal with the Mavericks.

Coming off bounce-back season that saw him average 15.3 points, 4.4 assists and 3.5 rebounds, Mayo will opt out of the $4.2 million he's owed in 2013-14. He clashed with Mavs coach Rick Carlisle late in the year, but did carry the team in the first half when Dirk Nowitzki was sidelined. "Like everything else in this world, this is probably going to come down to money," Carlisle said. "I don't know where all that stuff stands."

O.J. Mayo will decline his player option and test free agency in the offseason.

Mayo said he's hopeful to sign a long-term deal in Dallas, but that's not certain. Mayo will be giving up a little over $4M to test free agency, but he should have no trouble commanding a multi-year deal at a higher annual average rate than that. It wouldn't surprise us to see the Phoenix Suns show legitimate interest.
Apr 18 - 12:51 PM

O.J. Mayo hit just 1-of-6 shots for two points, three rebounds, one assist and four turnovers in Monday's loss to the Grizzlies.

Rick Carlisle lit into Mayo after the game and it's clear there is a problem between the two, which may explain his precipitous decline over the last month or so.
Apr 15 - 11:55 PM

O.J. Mayo followed up Friday's 20-point game with another single-digit dud, scoring eight points with two 3-pointers and four assists in 35 minutes.

As usual, the biggest problem was a lack of touches -- Mayo only took six shot attempts. He's likely to opt out of his final year (worth $4.2 million), and fantasy owners can only hope that he signs with a team that keeps the ball in his hands.
Apr 14 - 8:39 PM

O.J. Mayo scored 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting (including five threes) with three rebounds, six assists, two steals and one block in the Mavs' 108-105 overtime win over the Nuggets on Friday.

Mayo has struggled mightily but tonight he hit two clutch threes in the fourth quarter and overtime. Perhaps this is the game that gets him going, but unfortunately it will be a little late for most owners.
Apr 13 - 2:35 AM

O.J. Mayo hit just 2-of-10 shots for six points, five rebounds and six assists in 38 minutes of Wednesday's ugly loss to the Suns.

The Suns snapped a 10-game losing streak, while the loss likely officially knocked the Mavs out of the playoffs, if the Lakers hang on to beat the Blazers tonight. Mayo got off to a very hot start this season, but really cooled off once Dirk Nowitzki got back to full strength after knee surgery. Mayo's scored seven or fewer points in five of his last seven games, meaning he can be benched for any hot player that might be sitting on your bench.
Apr 10 - 11:44 PM

O.J. Mayo shot 2-of-6 from the field for four points with one board, six assists and one steal in 23 minutes against the Nuggets on Thursday.

He battled foul trouble and fouled out, so there's really no correlation that can be made from his bum shoulder to his poor game tonight. Mayo is struggling right now and while we obviously wouldn't cut him, he's someone that owners could consider benching in shallow formats.
Apr 4 - 11:36 PM

O.J. Mayo rebounded against the Lakers on Tuesday, shooting 5-of-10 from the field for 12 points with five boards, four assists, one steal and two 3-pointers in 34 minutes.

He has been bothered by a shoulder injury and in his previous three games, Mayo shot an ugly 23.7 percent from the field. He's been getting good looks and has gone cold countless times in his career, so the slump prior to this game isn't necessarily due to his shoulder. He should be active in all standard leagues.
Apr 3 - 1:35 AM

O.J. Mayo is working with a shooting coach after his 1-of-13 effort on Saturday.

Over his last three games, Mayo is shooting a lousy 9-of-38 from the floor. "It's getting there," Mayo said when asked about his shot. Rick Carlisle said Mayo "seems to be doing a little better each day" when it comes to his bum left shoulder.
Apr 2 - 10:00 AM

O.J. Mayo (sprained left shoulder) practiced without limitations on Monday.

Mayo is in an awful slump, shooting 9-of-38 from the field with one 3-pointer in the past three games combined. The good news is that Dallas plays four times this week and he doesn't seem at risk of a DNP, so keep him in your active lineups and hope that his shots begin to fall.
Apr 1 - 2:30 PM

O.J. Mayo (shoulder) was a disaster in Saturday's win over the Bulls, shooting 1-of-13 from the field for four points with two boards, four assists and one steal in 42 minutes.

He missed four layups and this was arguably his worst game of the season. Mayo was wearing a shoulder harness in the first quarter, but after he started out shooting 0-of-5 he decided to ditch it. Obviously, it didn't make a difference and Mayo missed his first 12 shots. He should still be in all lineups despite his sprained AC joint in his shoulder.
Mar 30 - 5:07 PM

O.J. Mayo has a mild sprain of the AC joint and is expected to play Saturday afternoon.

Mayo underwent an MRI on his left shoulder on Friday that revealed the sprain. He's only missed a handful of games due to injury or illness in his career so it shouldn't be a surprise that he's playing through the pain. The question, of course, is how much the shoulder injury will hinder his shooting, which was very sub-par in his last game. Owners should feel free to play Mayo but understand that they'll likely be getting a diminished version for the rest of the season.
