Nikola Pekovic scored 18 points with seven rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block in 31 minutes against the 76ers during a 103-94 loss on Friday.
The old "this was the Sixers" grain of salt comes in play here. Pekovic got off to a fast start and coach Flip Saunders clearly doesn't care about Pek aggravating his ankle injury. There is a lot of risk with him, but he should be owned in standard leagues for now. Jan 30 - 9:31 PM

Nikola Pekovic scored eight points on 3-of-12 shooting with seven rebounds, two assists and no steals or blocks in 30 minutes on Monday against the Thunder.

Pek has hit just 41 percent of his field goals in his 13 games this season and when he straightens that out he'll have some late-round value. While he's healthy and upright he makes some sense as a pickup if you need a big man, but everybody else can probably bypass him for a more useful player.
Jan 26 - 11:19 PM

Nikola Pekovic played a season-high 36 minutes in his return to the starting lineup, finishing Sunday's road loss with 15 points, three rebounds, one assist and zero blocks.

The Wolves have limited Pek's playing time as a precaution all year and he's unlikely to top 32 minutes very often. He made 4-of-10 field goals but knocked down 7-of-8 free throws, and owners couldn't have asked for more in his third game back from an ankle injury. Go ahead and get him into active lineups for the Wolves' upcoming four-game week.

Nikola Pekovic will return to the starting lineup for Sunday's game vs. the Hawks.

Mo Williams, Andrew Wiggins, Thaddeus Young, and Gorgui Dieng will join Pekovic, so it's interesting and encouraging that Pek’s return to the starting lineup will not affect Dieng's status as a starter. We'll let you know how the pairing performs after the game.
Jan 25 - 6:03 PM

Nikola Pekovic scored 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting with nine rebounds and two blocks in 21 minutes off the bench on Friday.

This comes against a thin New Orleans bench but regardless it looks like he's ready to produce again. Flip Saunders said that he's going to try and find ways to play both he and Gorgui Dieng together some, which makes sense because nobody is setting the power forward position on fire and Dieng deserves to be on the floor. Pek is worth an add while he's upright.
Jan 24 - 2:55 AM

Nikola Pekovic (wrist) said he felt good but limited in his first game since November 15 on Wednesday.

Pekovic scored 14 points to go with four rebounds in 23 minutes in Wednesday's loss to the Mavericks, but thinks he'll be able to help more as the season progresses. "I was trying to help from a different standpoint," Pekovic said. "Talking, do some more stuff inside. I wasn't really able to do everything I can do." Pekovic is worth a flier in most fantasy leagues, but he and Gorgui Dieng will both have their value capped as long as they're splitting minutes.

Jan 22 - 10:35 AM

Nikola Pekovic returned from his ankle injury and hit 5-of-11 shots for 14 points and four rebounds in 23 minutes on Wednesday.

He last played on Nov. 15, so he looked pretty good considering how long he's been dormant. His return hurt Gorgui Dieng, who had six points and seven rebounds in 25 minutes. These two are going to split minutes as long as Pekovic is healthy, hurting both of their fantasy value in the process.
Jan 21 - 11:17 PM

Nikola Pekovic (ankle) will play on Wednesday, but he'll come off the bench under a strict minute-limit.

Pek's ankles will require vigilance all season and the cellar-dwelling Timberwolves have no reason to give him heavy playing time, especially with Gorgui Dieng playing exceptionally well as a starter. Pekovic is worth a look for points, FG percentage and rebounds, but his minute-limit and lack of defensive stats are bound to keep his value in check.
Jan 21 - 6:51 PM

Nikola Pekovic (ankle) will be a game-time decision for Wednesday's game against the Mavs.

Pekovic said the decision as to whether he plays tomorrow will ultimately be up to head coach Flip Saunders, and while he's still experiencing pain, it has become tolerable at this point. Considering the enormous injury risk that is Pekovic, Saunders will likely ease him back into the rotation, and it's unclear if and when he would return to the starting lineup. Stay tuned.
Jan 20 - 3:28 PM

Nikola Pekovic (wrist, ankle) remains out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Hornets.

He was doubtful coming in, so while we didn't expect him to play, there was at least a chance he could have. Now that he's officially out, Gorgui Dieng will continue to play as much as he possibly can in the middle. Dieng is averaging 10.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.8 blocks on 50 percent shooting through 30 starts at center. Big Pek isn't getting his job back.
Jan 19 - 1:07 PM

Nikola Pekovic (ankle) is doubtful to play Monday vs. the Hornets.

Head coach Flip Saunders has said he would like Pekovic to go through a D-League stint before returning to the lineup, and given the fact that that has not happened yet, it's looking unlikely he'll be available on Monday. Gorgui Dieng will continue to start with Pekovic sidelined, and there's a chance he remains the starter upon Pek's return as the Wolves' plans have now shifted to development rather than competing for a playoff spot.
Jan 18 - 3:07 PM

Nikola Pekovic (ankle) will not play against the Nuggets on Saturday.

For some reason they listed him as doubtful when there was no chance he was going to play today. Pekovic is expected to need at least a few more days to get going and his minutes will be capped upon his return. Gorgui Dieng is a must-start player while Anthony Bennett is getting some extra run.
Jan 17 - 7:29 PM

Nikola Pekovic (ankle) is doubtful for Saturday's game against the Nuggets.

Unfortunately for Pekovic, Gorgui Dieng has been fantastic for Minnesota and they are still likely going to give him big minutes down the stretch. Pekovic is still worth grabbing for owners in need of points and boards, but a potential timeshare isn't out of the question.

Jan 17 - 1:41 PM

Nikola Pekovic is no longer experiencing pain in his troublesome ankle, and his last hurdle to making a return is getting his conditioning in check.

Flip Saunders said that Pekovic is willing to go down for a D-League stint to get his conditioning right, so once Pek is sent down we'll know he's very close to a return. He was averaging 11.9 points and 8.1 rebounds as the starting center before going down, however, it remains to be seen if he would immediately reclaim the starting position from Gorgui Dieng. Dieng owners shouldn't be overly concerned about Pekovic.
Jan 16 - 10:11 AM

Timberwolves' head coach Flip Sanders said that while Nikola Pekovic (ankle) and Kevin Martin (wrist) are practicing, "it's still going to be a while" before they return.

Pekovic was averaging 11.9 points and 8.1 rebounds before going down, but his minimal contributions to the defensive categories (0.2 blocks and 0.7 steals per game) makes him a difficult guy to own in standard leagues. Martin, however, offers enough upside to be worth a stash in most leagues.
