The Timberwolves officially announced that Nikola Pekovic (right ankle) will not play during the 2016-17 season.
Previous reports suggested that it is "highly doubtful" Pekovic will play again in the NBA due to his chronic ankle injuries. Insurance will cover his salary for this season, and the Wolves will likely negotiate a buyout for the $11.6 million he's owed in the final year of his deal in 2017-18. Minnesota signed free agents Cole Aldrich and Jordan Hill this summer, improving their depth despite the loss of both Pekovic and Kevin Garnett. Sep 25 - 10:15 PM

Nikola Pekovic (foot) is "highly doubtful" to play again in the NBA, according to the AP's Jon Krawczynski.

This report also confirmed Pekovic will not play this season, and insurance will cover the Wolves on Pek's contract. He has one year and about $12 million left on his deal, so there might be some sort of buyout agreement. He's 30 years old and has played just 43 games combined in the last two seasons.

Owner Glen Taylor said Nikola Pekovic (foot) will not play for the Wolves this season and the team may buy him out.

This isn't surprising to hear as the Tom Thibodeau era takes over. Pekovic just can't stay healthy anymore and it's already been announced he won't be ready to start camp. If he's bought out, another team might pick him up as a third center.

Tom Thibodeau said that Nikola Pekovic (foot) will not be ready to participate during training camp.

Pekovic's career may be a wrap considering that he barely played in 12 games last season, and even with a full offseason to recover, he's still not ready. Karl-Anthony Towns and Gorgui Dieng are the future in Minnesota, and guys like Cole Aldrich and Jordan Hill will be picking up most of the reserve minutes for the Wolves, so there's really no reason to draft Pek in any setting.
Sep 21 - 10:18 AM

Nikola Pekovic has been working out in Minnesota over the past few weeks, but he's "still not ready physically," according to Sam Wolfson of ESPN 1500.

Pekovic only managed to get on the court for a total of 12 games last season, and the last time he played was a 16-minute stint on January 6. The fact that he's had nine months to recover and is still not close is certainly concerning, and given that Minnesota will be forced to pay him roughly $23.7 million over the next two seasons, it wouldn't be surprising at all to see the franchise waive him. The emergence of Karl-Anthony Towns and Gorgui Dieng has rendered Pek an afterthought in Minnesota.

The Wolves want Nikola Pekovic to report early for training camp "so the doctors and everybody can work with him," according to team owner Glen Taylor.

Pekovic was shut down in February due to a persistent Achilles injury, and he hasn't been healthy for years. "We’re going to try to get him in here early to make sure he’s in physical shape and look at that foot and make sure it doesn’t reoccur again," Taylor said. Even if Pekovic is healthy enough to earn a spot in the rotation, his fantasy appeal has been decimated by the arrival of Jordan Hill and Cole Aldrich.
Jul 17 - 11:45 AM

Nikola Pekovic (foot) is out indefinitely in order to continue his Achilles rehab.

The Timberwolves want Pek to work on strengthening calf muscles in order to take pressure off his foot and are hoping he will be able to return this season. It would be a surprise to see that happen as the Timberwolves are lottery-bound, so Gorgui Dieng will continue to reap the rewards of Pekovic's absence.

Feb 18 - 3:00 PM

Nikola Pekovic (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday.

Pek may just be getting an extra day of rest during the break, but this is not an encouraging development. He underwent surgery to correct his chronic ankle problems, but has only appeared in 12 games all season. With Pek and KG both ailing, more playing time is available for Gorgui Dieng.
