Timberwolves' head coach Flip Sanders said that Nikola Pekovic (wrist, ankle) will likely be out another four weeks.
Pekovic recently tried running on a treadmill but his ankle flared up, so he's not anywhere near making a return. Gorgui Dieng will continue to start at center as long as Pekovic is sidelined, and is currently averaging 8.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.0 block per game with the starting unit. Date:

Nikola Pekovic (wrist, ankle) will play again this season, according to Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN.

Pekovic's previous timetable was being reported as "at least 10-14 days", so Wolfson's report indicates that his injuries is more worrisome than the Timberwolves have let on. Pek will be reevaluated this week, but it sounds like Gorgui Dieng's fantasy owners can breathe easy for the time being.
Dec 4 - 12:42 PM

Nikola Pekovic (wrist, ankle) will be sidelined for at least the next 10-to-14 days.

The key phrase here is "at least," as it could be even longer than that. The Timberwolves signed Jeff Adrien using a hardship exception, so Pekovic won't be back anytime soon. He'll be reevaluated this week for an ankle issue that won't go away, and Flip Saunders said Big Pek will need at least a week of conditioning prior to returning. Gorgui Dieng is averaging 8.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.3 blocks on 45 percent shooting in 32.5 minutes per game as the starting center this season.
Dec 1 - 11:33 AM

Nikola Pekovic (wrist, ankle) will be re-evaluated next week.

That means we can rule him out for Sunday and probably Monday with his ankle issues. Pekovic could play on Wednesday, but we highly doubt it. Gorgui Dieng hasn't been too involved in the offense, but his output in boards and blocks make him a must-own player.
Nov 28 - 2:47 PM

Nikola Pekovic (wrist, ankle, personal) will not suit up for Friday's game vs. the Lakers.

Pekovic has not played since Nov. 15, and remains without an official return date. With Pek sidelined, Gorgui Dieng will continue to get all the minutes he can handle, and is currently averaging 8.0 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.8 blocks, and 2.0 steals per game with the starting unit.
Nov 28 - 11:41 AM

Nikola Pekovic (wrist, ankle, personal) hopes to be cleared to resume practicing early next week.

Pekovic's wrist was the reason doctors asked him to rest for one week, but he's also dealing with ongoing pain from a bursa sac in his ankle, all while dealing with an undisclosed personal issue. The Wolves are already limiting his playing time to under 30 minutes per game and his ankle injury could linger all season, which is one more reason to like Gorgui Dieng's outlook even when he shifts back to a reserve role upon Pek's return.
Nov 20 - 1:21 PM

Nikola Pekovic (personal, wrist, ankle) said on Wednesday that the painful bursa sac in his ankle has been bothering him since Nov. 12.

He also has a wrist injury and a personal matter to deal with right now. The wrist injury will keep him out for at least three games and he won't be re-evaluated until next week. Pekovic's ankle injury is the biggest long-term issue and it would almost be a shock for it not to limit him down the line. Gorgui Dieng should be owned in every single fantasy league right now.
Nov 19 - 3:10 PM

Nikola Pekovic sprained his right wrist and will not suit up for any games this week.

Pekovic will be targeting a return for Nov. 26 vs. the Bucks, and Gorgui Dieng will enter the starting lineup with Pek sidelined. Dieng has a lot of upside, and as a starter last season he averaged 12.2 points, 12.0 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game over 32 minutes of action. He'll be a great option in daily leagues as the team's unquestioned starting center, and if he's somehow available in your league, he makes for an excellent pickup.
Nov 18 - 3:09 PM

Nikola Pekovic missed practice on Monday due to personal reasons.

Coach Flip Saunders wouldn't discuss the details or if it was related to resting in the second half on Saturday. Pekovic and the Wolves are off until Wednesday and we'd guess he'll be ready for that game. If you have a safer option, it's not a bad idea to bench Pek in a three-game week. If he does miss time, Gorgui Dieng would be a must-start guy.
Nov 17 - 4:39 PM

Nikola Pekovic sat out down the stretch of Saturday's game, and finished with just two points, five boards and one assist in 12 minutes.

When asked about Pek, coach Saunders said, "He had some soreness in his leg...[there was] no need for him to play." This does sound a little concerning for Pek's owners because he has had some major problems with his ankle, most notably last season. This is definitely something we will monitor closely and if he does miss time, Gorgui Dieng becomes a must-own player.
Nov 15 - 11:26 PM

Nikola Pekovic didn't miss Ricky Rubio (ankle) in a 102-92 loss on Saturday in Miami with 19 points, 11 rebounds and one steal.

He was tremendous at establishing low position, which has been his calling card the past few seasons. Pekovic should shouldn't see his numbers slide much while the Wolves play without their point guard, so keep him rolling out there as a double-double threat.
Nov 8 - 10:37 PM

Nikola Pekovic improved on Thursday against the Pistons with 17 points, 10 rebounds and three turnovers in 31 minutes.

Thaddeus Young called him a grizzly bear after the game for the way he battled with Andre Drummond. Pekovic was pretty crafty around the rim and he showed Drummond a thing or two about operating from within five feet. He will be worth starting in fantasy leagues while he's healthy. Also, his minutes will likely be closer to 27 once Ronny Turiaf (hip) comes back.
Oct 30 - 11:54 PM

Nikola Pekovic hit just 2-of-9 shots for five points, eight rebounds, one assist and one block in 29 minutes on Wednesday.

The minutes were there, but he never got it going against Marc Gasol, who had a big night. Gorgui Dieng is going to press Pekovic this season, but it's clear that the job still belongs to Pek.
Oct 30 - 1:02 AM

Nikola Pekovic put up 15 points, 13 boards, one assist, one steal and one turnover in just 19 minutes against the Bucks on Wednesday.

The Bucks can make a lot of guys look good and that was the case for Pek tonight. His minutes have been in the 15-20 range in all five preseason games and he's expected to be right at 27 this year. Considering his injury history, Pekovic is more of just a late-round flier.
Oct 22 - 11:25 PM

Nikola Pekovic said that he loves the idea of playing 27 minutes per game.

He is hopeful that the drop in playing time will get him to at least 70 games. Pekovic has dealt with bursitis in his ankle since last season and it's very likely he'll miss time due to an injury. While it might be unconventional, fantasy owners should target backup Gorgui Dieng over Pek.
