Omer Asik played 18 minutes on Friday with four points, six rebounds, one assist and one steal against the Spurs.
His minutes keep dropping and coach Monty Williams is gaining more confidence in Alexis Ajinca. Asik is not worth owning in even 16-team leagues at this rate. Dec 27 - 12:34 AM

Date:

Omer Asik played 20 minutes against the Blazers on Saturday with four points, seven rebounds and two turnovers.

The Pelicans have been playing him less these days and it makes sense. They have a lower net rating when Asik and Anthony Davis are on the floor compared to Ryan Anderson and Davis. Asik has almost no upside for owners in standard leagues, so feel free to cut him based on him only being a one-category player.
Dec 20 - 9:18 PM

Omer Asik did not play down the stretch on Thursday against the Rockets, finishing with two points, 11 rebounds, one assist and three turnovers in 28 minutes.

He is one of the most inept offensive big men in the NBA and doesn't even block shots. Asik has been the 176th-best player in standard leagues over the past month, so there is nothing wrong with cutting him if you want to add the upside of Marcus Smart or someone else.
Dec 19 - 12:39 AM

Omer Asik scored just six points on 2-of-6 shooting, but also had 15 rebounds in 26 minutes on Wednesday.

Asik has hit double digits in boards in six straight games and is averaging 9.8 points and 13.0 rebounds over his last five. He hasn't been blocking many shots, and maybe he never will, but he's playing well again for the Pelicans.
Dec 11 - 12:45 AM

Omer Asik notched 16 points and 14 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season on Tuesday, helping New Orleans in a win vs. the visiting Knicks.

Asik made 7-of-10 FGs and 2-of-4 FTs, and it was nice to see him blocking shots after going three games without a single swat. He's among the league's best sources of rebounds but remains a marginal fantasy option in most leagues thanks to damaging averages in points (8.4), FT percentage (59.1 percent), steals (0.3) and blocks (0.7).
Dec 9 - 11:06 PM

Omer Asik missed all four shots from the field and 1-of-2 from the line on Saturday to go with nine boards and one steal in 28 minutes.

He has struggled on the offensive side of the ball in his three games since returning from a back injury, averaging 2.8 points, 5.4 boards, 0.4 steals and 0.2 blocks on 31.3 percent from the field in that span. His big 14-17 line in the opener seems like a distant memory and he's not a must-own player in standards.
Nov 29 - 9:27 PM

Omer Asik (back) struggled in his return from a four-game absence on Tuesday, scoring three points with seven rebounds and one steal in 26 minutes of action.

Asik was tasked with stopping DeMarcus Cousins and he can be forgiven for the quiet line, especially coming off a lengthy absence. Fantasy owners should expect a quick return to Asik's season averages of 9.0 points (60.9 percent shooting), 10.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.3 blocks per game. His return led to a DNP-CD for fill-in starter Alexis Ajinca.
Nov 25 - 11:36 PM

Omer Asik (back) will return to action on Tuesday after missing the past four games.

Asik was a partial participant in Monday's practice and is finally ready to play after missing the past week, which will send Alexis Ajinca back to the bench and steal a few minutes from Ryan Anderson. Asik has been a terrific source of rebounds this year, as well as FG percentage and blocks, so owners relying on his big-man stats should activate him in all lineups.
Nov 25 - 7:02 PM

Omer Asik (back) said that he will to try to play Tuesday vs. the Kings.

Asik has missed four consecutive games with this back injury, but he was able to practice on Monday. Still, owners will want to check back closer to tip-off for an official update on his status. If Asik is unable to go, Alexis Ajinca would likely draw another start at center, but Ryan Anderson is the one who gains the most when Asik is sidelined.
Nov 25 - 3:46 PM

Omer Asik (back) was able to get in some practice on Monday.

Asik's back has been an issue for a week now, so it's good to see him get in some practice. It's nebulous as to what exactly he was able to do, but some progress is better than no progress. We'll consider him iffy for Tuesday's game against the Kings.
Nov 24 - 1:03 PM

Omer Asik (back) will not play against the Jazz on Saturday.

He had an aggravation in Friday warmups and didn't have much of a chance to play tonight. With Asik out, Alexis Ajinca will get some extra playing time, but he's not a great fantasy option. Asik could miss more time and he's not a must-own player.
Nov 22 - 7:36 PM

Omer Asik (back) is doubtful to play vs. the Jazz on Saturday.

Asik aggravated his lower back while warming up prior to Friday's game and it sounds like he'll miss his third straight game in Utah, but there's still a chance he'll recover in time to play. Alexis Ajinca has been very quiet as a fill-in starter in Asik's absence and there are no real fantasy winners in this scenario.
Nov 22 - 1:31 PM

Omer Asik (back) will not play against the Nuggets on Friday.

He aggravated his back injury in warmups and chances are he is going to miss more time. Asik isn't a must-own player anymore considering he doesn't have a high upside. Alexis Ajinca will start again, but doesn't have much fantasy value.
Nov 21 - 8:39 PM

Omer Asik (back) is expected to start against the Nuggets on Friday.

He was questionable for tonight after missing the last two games. Asik probably won't see many minutes and figures to be in the mid 20s tonight. He's not a must-start player even in a favorable matchup. Alexis Ajinca could lose some minutes.
Nov 21 - 7:33 PM

Omer Asik (back) is questionable to face the Nuggets on Friday.

He has missed his last two games and he is probably a little closer to doubtful. The Pelicans do not need him since they can just play Anthony Davis at center. Alexis Ajinca may get minutes, but Ryan Anderson is probably the biggest beneficiary.
