Omer Asik and Alexis Ajinca are expected to "complement each other" for the Pelicans.

GM Dell Demps cited Asik's ability to rebound and bang against bigger players as reasoning for bringing him back. Additionally, Demps called Asik a more defensive-minded player with Ajinca more of a scorer. Regardless, both will take a back seat to Anthony Davis.
Jul 13 - 9:03 AM

Omer Asik, Alexis Ajinca and Dante Cunningham all singed their deals with the Pelicans early on Thursday morning.

Asik should start at center, while Ajinca and Cunningham will play backup roles for the Pelicans. Asik is the guy you want to target on draft night, but not until very late in your draft.
Jul 9 - 2:21 AM

The Pelicans and Omer Asik have agreed on a five-year, $58 million deal.

Holy cow. It's the last deal of a wild day and it is perhaps one of worst buys with $44 million in guaranteed money (the 2019-20 season isn't guaranteed). Asik wasn't a great fit next to Anthony Davis, but maybe coach Alvin Gentry can turn him around. The Pelicans have spent $200 million on the players that figure to get almost all of their center minutes this year. Asik isn't worth drafting in most leagues.
Jul 2 - 12:01 AM

Omer Asik and the Pelicans are expected to have a deal done on Wednesday night.

The Pelicans have already thrown over $160 million in contracts to their frontcourt and it should be interesting to see how much money Asik will get. He isn't worth drafting in most leagues.
Jul 1 - 11:06 PM

The Pelicans are in discussions to re-sign unrestricted free agent Omer Asik.

With the Pelicans already signing Alexis Ajinca today, it'll be interesting to see how much money they give Asik. Last season didn't really work out and Anthony Davis was at his worst next to Asik, especially down the stretch.
Jul 1 - 3:34 PM

The Pelicans will reportedly make a push to bring back Omer Asik as an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Asik really doesn't do a whole lot aside from rebound, so if the offers get too high for New Orleans' liking, they will likely let him walk. If the Pelicans are unable to retain Asik, they will likely shift their focus to other unrestricted free agent centers such as Robin Lopez or Tyson Chandler. Asik averaged 7.3 points, 9.8 rebounds and just 0.7 blocks per game during the 2014-15 season, so he's not going to be a strong fantasy option regardless of where he lands.
Jun 30 - 2:24 PM

Omer Asik is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, but he was noncommittal about re-signing with the Pelicans.

"It's not the time to talk about it right now," Asik said about his free agency. "But I think there is good stuff going on here. It's a young team and the future is good." Former head coach Monty Williams did say that the Pelicans were going to prioritize bringing Asik back, but it will be interesting to see what direction the franchise takes under the leadership of a new coach. Asik averaged just 7.3 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks during the 2014-15 season, so he won't be a hot commodity in fantasy drafts regardless of where he lands.
May 13 - 9:48 AM

Pelicans head coach Monty Williams said re-signing Omer Asik is one of the big issues for next season.

Asik will have plenty of suitors as he hits the market as an unrestricted free agent, but he has a big supporter in Williams. The 28-year-old averaged 7.3 points, 9.8 rebound, and 0.7 blocks during the 2014-15 season, so while he's not the flashiest option for fantasy owners, he'll provide his owners with a solid base in rebounds no matter where he ends up next season.
Apr 28 - 1:53 PM

According to ESPN's Marc Stein, "initial signals" suggest Omer Asik will return to the Pelicans next season.

Asik, an unrestricted free agent, should have no shortage of interest on the open market considering what he brings to the table. With a looming max extension also in the picture for Anthony Davis along with Jrue Holiday, Eric Gordon and Tyreke Evans all on the roster, the Pelicans are going to have to make some interesting decisions this offseason as the team looks to improve its ceiling.

Apr 27 - 10:17 AM

Omer Asik scored two points on 1-of-3 shooting with 13 rebounds, two steals and three turnovers over 24 minutes in Game 2 against the Warriors on Monday.

Asik was bad in the first half and improved greatly in the second half, with most of Basketball Twitter calling for him to see less minutes all night. He has clogged the lane and isn't a great fit for this series, but 24 minutes depending on how he looks at any given time is probably where he should be.
Apr 21 - 1:16 AM

Omer Asik played 22 minutes in the starting lineup with two points, nine boards, one assist, one steal and one turnover against the Warriors on Saturday.

He only attempted one shot from the field and only had two offensive boards. Considering he just sits in the paint and takes up space near the basket, you could argue he's setting back Anthony Davis. Asik didn't play in the final five minutes and Davis scored 18 points in those five minutes. We'll see what coach Monty Williams does in Game 2 because the Warriors are just too strong on the outside to have Asik out there.
Apr 18 - 6:31 PM

Omer Asik grabbed 18 rebounds to go with three points and two assists in 22 minutes on Friday against the Suns.

Despite the big game on the glass he's not a valuable player in standard leagues. But if you're targeting that category, give him a look.
Apr 11 - 2:30 AM

Omer Asik scored 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting, adding six rebounds, one assist and two turnovers through 25 minutes of action.

Asik can be viewed as a rebounding specialist in deep leagues, but he usually doesn't bring much else to the stat sheet (7.3 points and 0.8 blocks per game on the season) making him a questionable guy to own in standard leagues.
Mar 29 - 6:37 PM

Omer Asik (calf) returned to the lineup on Wednesday with six points, six boards, two assists, one steal and four turnovers in 26 minutes against the Rockets.

He was a victim of a James Harden poster and didn't have his best game in his return. Asik cost the Pelicans a first-round pick in the upcoming draft, so this sub-par game stings a little more. He's a questionable player to own in standard leagues.
