Omer Asik is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, but he was noncommittal about re-signing with the Pelicans.
"It's not the time to talk about it right now," Asik said about his free agency. "But I think there is good stuff going on here. It's a young team and the future is good." Former head coach Monty Williams did say that the Pelicans were going to prioritize bringing Asik back, but it will be interesting to see what direction the franchise takes under the leadership of a new coach. Asik averaged just 7.3 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks during the 2014-15 season, so he won't be a hot commodity in fantasy drafts regardless of where he lands. May 13 - 9:48 AM

Pelicans head coach Monty Williams said re-signing Omer Asik is one of the big issues for next season.

Asik will have plenty of suitors as he hits the market as an unrestricted free agent, but he has a big supporter in Williams. The 28-year-old averaged 7.3 points, 9.8 rebound, and 0.7 blocks during the 2014-15 season, so while he's not the flashiest option for fantasy owners, he'll provide his owners with a solid base in rebounds no matter where he ends up next season.

According to ESPN's Marc Stein, "initial signals" suggest Omer Asik will return to the Pelicans next season.

Asik, an unrestricted free agent, should have no shortage of interest on the open market considering what he brings to the table. With a looming max extension also in the picture for Anthony Davis along with Jrue Holiday, Eric Gordon and Tyreke Evans all on the roster, the Pelicans are going to have to make some interesting decisions this offseason as the team looks to improve its ceiling.

Omer Asik scored two points on 1-of-3 shooting with 13 rebounds, two steals and three turnovers over 24 minutes in Game 2 against the Warriors on Monday.

Asik was bad in the first half and improved greatly in the second half, with most of Basketball Twitter calling for him to see less minutes all night. He has clogged the lane and isn't a great fit for this series, but 24 minutes depending on how he looks at any given time is probably where he should be.
Apr 21 - 1:16 AM

Omer Asik played 22 minutes in the starting lineup with two points, nine boards, one assist, one steal and one turnover against the Warriors on Saturday.

He only attempted one shot from the field and only had two offensive boards. Considering he just sits in the paint and takes up space near the basket, you could argue he's setting back Anthony Davis. Asik didn't play in the final five minutes and Davis scored 18 points in those five minutes. We'll see what coach Monty Williams does in Game 2 because the Warriors are just too strong on the outside to have Asik out there.
Apr 18 - 6:31 PM

Omer Asik grabbed 18 rebounds to go with three points and two assists in 22 minutes on Friday against the Suns.

Despite the big game on the glass he's not a valuable player in standard leagues. But if you're targeting that category, give him a look.
Apr 11 - 2:30 AM

Omer Asik scored 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting, adding six rebounds, one assist and two turnovers through 25 minutes of action.

Asik can be viewed as a rebounding specialist in deep leagues, but he usually doesn't bring much else to the stat sheet (7.3 points and 0.8 blocks per game on the season) making him a questionable guy to own in standard leagues.
Mar 29 - 6:37 PM

Omer Asik (calf) returned to the lineup on Wednesday with six points, six boards, two assists, one steal and four turnovers in 26 minutes against the Rockets.

He was a victim of a James Harden poster and didn't have his best game in his return. Asik cost the Pelicans a first-round pick in the upcoming draft, so this sub-par game stings a little more. He's a questionable player to own in standard leagues.
Mar 26 - 1:24 AM

Omer Asik (calf) is still expected to play vs. the Rockets on Wednesday.

Asik was able to practice in full on Tuesday, and he was fully expected to be ready for tonight's game. He was playing well prior to suffering the calf injury that cost him the last two games, so he is worth a look for any owner needing help in rebounds. Alexis Ajinca will shift to the bench and his value will take a hit.
Mar 25 - 6:35 PM

Omer Asik (calf) is expected to play on Wednesday vs. the Rockets.

Asik has missed the last two games for the Pelicans, but he retuned to practice on Tuesday and is ready to play tonight. He will likely jump back into the starting lineup vs. the Rockets, while Alexis Ajinca will shift back to a limited role off the bench. If you need help in boards, give Asik a look.
Mar 25 - 11:55 AM

Omer Asik (calf) went through practice on Tuesday.

Asik has missed the past two games with a strained right calf, but his return to practice is an encouraging sign for his chances of suiting up Wednesday vs. the Rockets. We'll be considering him questionable for now, but if he is able to return to the lineup, Alexis Ajinca would head back to the bench and his value would take a sizable hit with the demotion to the second unit. Stay tuned.
Mar 24 - 3:28 PM

Omer Asik (calf) has been ruled out for Sunday's game vs. the Clippers.

This will be Asik's second consecutive game on the sidelines, and it'll be Alexis Ajinca and Jeff Withey picking up the slack in his absence, with Ajinca getting the start. The Pelicans don't play again until Wednesday, so we'll be considering Asik questionable for that one. Stay tuned.
Mar 22 - 2:36 PM

Omer Asik (calf) will be a game-time decision for Sunday's game vs. the Clippers.

Asik was a game-time decision on Friday and did not suit up, so owners may want to consider sliding someone else into their active roster. If Asik is indeed unavailable, Alexis Ajinca and Jeff Withey would see extended minutes, with Ajinca offering the most upside. Stay tuned.
Mar 22 - 2:11 PM

Omer Asik (calf) is questionable to play the Clippers on Sunday.

Asik was a game-time decision for Friday's game vs. the Warriors and ended up siting that one out, and it looks like his status likely won't be determined until right before tip-off again. Alexis Ajinca and Jeff Withey would both be in the mix for more playing time if Asik can't give it a go, with Ajinca holding a little more upside. Asik is worth holding onto if you need boards.
Mar 22 - 11:26 AM

Omer Asik (calf) will not play against the Warriors on Friday night.

He was expected to be a game-time decision, but the team decided to just rule him out early. Asik tends to stay on the sidelines more than most players, so he could be looking at another DNP on Sunday against the Clippers. Alexis Ajinca is a nice option in all leagues tonight while Jeff Withey will play more off the bench.
