Omer Asik had 12 points, 13 rebounds and a block in Wednesday's win over Brooklyn, the third straight for the short-handed Pelicans.
They continue to try to track down OKC for the No. 8 seed in the West, but they got a serious uphill climb in actually making the playoffs. But as long as Anthony Davis is out, Asik should ball, and he's now double-doubled in two straight games, and just missed a third with 15 points and nine rebounds. Feb 26 - 12:59 AM

Omer Asik double-doubled in the Pelicans' 100-97 win over the Raptors on Monday, scoring 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting (6-of-10 FTs) with 11 rebounds and two blocks.

Asik has a window to produce with Anthony Davis and Ryan Anderson out, but his stat set is terrible for standard leagues due to a lack of defensive stats and poor free throw percentage. If everything is clicking he can be a late-round value in 8-cat leagues.
Feb 24 - 12:19 AM

Omer Asik scored 15 points against the Heat on Saturday during a 105-91 win with nine rebounds, two assists and one steal.

It was one of his best games in a while. Even with the Pelicans missing Ryan Anderson (knee) and Anthony Davis (shoulder) before, Asik hasn't put up scoring numbers like this one. He is worth a look in standard leagues now, but the upside isn't too high.
Feb 21 - 11:00 PM

Omer Asik tied a career-high with five blocks in Monday's loss, and also chipped in with six points, eight rebounds and one assist.

Asik just isn't built for fantasy leagues and it would take a number of fortunate breaks in his favor to change that.
Feb 10 - 2:57 AM

Omer Asik had just five points, seven rebounds and a block on 1-of-3 shooting in 21 minutes of Wednesday's loss to the Thunder.

Asik went off for 17 rebounds on Monday, but looked more like his normal self against the Thunder. He's still a decent source of boards and blocks, but isn't a must-start fantasy player on most nights.
Feb 5 - 12:48 AM

Omer Asik grabbed 17 rebounds in Monday's win, and also chipped in with nine points on 2-of-6 shooting (5-of-6 FTs) and a block.

Asik might have some very low-end value in points leagues that don't count percentages, but his body of work in standard leagues this season hasn't warranted any attention. He'll need to string some games together before we give him a look.
Feb 3 - 1:22 AM

Omer Asik double-doubled against the Knicks on Monday with 11 points, 17 rebounds and one turnover in 27 minutes.

His minutes have gone up with the loss of Anthony Davis (toe). In his last five, Asik averaged 8.2 points, 13.0 boards and 0.4 blocks on 46.9 percent from the field. Those numbers are still not going to put him into the pickup conversation in standard leagues.
Jan 19 - 9:00 PM

Omer Asik scored eight points with 13 boards, two assists, one block and two turnovers in 26 minutes against the Pistons on Wednesday.

While the Pistons get a lot of press for their frontcourt, they have been gashed by centers all season long. This line is an aberration, so Asik can be left on the wire in standard leagues.
Jan 14 - 10:11 PM

Omer Asik missed both his shots to finish with three points, 12 rebounds and zero blocks, and inadvertently tipped a ball into the wrong basket with zeros remaining on the clock, leading to an overtime loss against the Spurs.

Asik was actually playing solid D against Tim Duncan and blocked the inbounds pass right in front of the rim, but it somehow found the hoop and tied the game for the Spurs, who eventually went on to win. Asik's scoring has been down, but he's still a good source of boards and blocks on most nights. And most of his blocks actually help his team, instead of cost it a win.

Omer Asik had 11 points (5-of-6 FGs, 1-of-6 FTs), eight rebounds and one block in 25 minutes on Tuesday, marking his first double-digit performance since Dec. 16.

Scoring has never been Asik's strong suit, but his owners should be more concerned by the fact that he's averaging a mere 5.8 rebounds and 0.4 blocks over the Pelicans last five games. In the wake of his prolonged slump, he's barely clinging to season-long value in 14-team leagues.
Tue, Dec 30, 2014 10:36:00 PM

Omer Asik played 18 minutes on Friday with four points, six rebounds, one assist and one steal against the Spurs.

His minutes keep dropping and coach Monty Williams is gaining more confidence in Alexis Ajinca. Asik is not worth owning in even 16-team leagues at this rate.
Sat, Dec 27, 2014 12:34:00 AM

Omer Asik played 20 minutes against the Blazers on Saturday with four points, seven rebounds and two turnovers.

The Pelicans have been playing him less these days and it makes sense. They have a lower net rating when Asik and Anthony Davis are on the floor compared to Ryan Anderson and Davis. Asik has almost no upside for owners in standard leagues, so feel free to cut him based on him only being a one-category player.
Sat, Dec 20, 2014 09:18:00 PM

Omer Asik did not play down the stretch on Thursday against the Rockets, finishing with two points, 11 rebounds, one assist and three turnovers in 28 minutes.

He is one of the most inept offensive big men in the NBA and doesn't even block shots. Asik has been the 176th-best player in standard leagues over the past month, so there is nothing wrong with cutting him if you want to add the upside of Marcus Smart or someone else.
Fri, Dec 19, 2014 12:39:00 AM

Omer Asik scored just six points on 2-of-6 shooting, but also had 15 rebounds in 26 minutes on Wednesday.

Asik has hit double digits in boards in six straight games and is averaging 9.8 points and 13.0 rebounds over his last five. He hasn't been blocking many shots, and maybe he never will, but he's playing well again for the Pelicans.
Thu, Dec 11, 2014 12:45:00 AM

Omer Asik notched 16 points and 14 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season on Tuesday, helping New Orleans in a win vs. the visiting Knicks.

Asik made 7-of-10 FGs and 2-of-4 FTs, and it was nice to see him blocking shots after going three games without a single swat. He's among the league's best sources of rebounds but remains a marginal fantasy option in most leagues thanks to damaging averages in points (8.4), FT percentage (59.1 percent), steals (0.3) and blocks (0.7).
