Omer Asik (ankylosing spondylitis, irritable bowel syndrome) will not play in Tuesday's preseason game against Chicago.

Asik has been dealing with a pretty serious illness since February, and there's a chance he might not play at all this season. The last report we had was that he was being treated for Crohn's disease in Minnesota, but it's worth noting that while his symptoms are similar to Crohn's disease, that hasn't been the official diagnosis to this point. We wish Asik the best in his recovery.
Oct 2 - 5:00 PM

Omer Asik is currently in Minnesota being treated for Crohn's disease, and while he's made improvements, he's still not ready to play basketball.

It's unclear if Asik will be able to take the court this season, but we wish him the best in his recovery. The majority of the frontcourt minutes in New Orleans will be divvied up between Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins, with guys like Cheik Diallo, Alexis Ajinca and Dante Cunningham fighting over the scraps.
Sep 25 - 4:22 PM

Omer Asik (illness) still has no timetable for a return.

He's been battling a gastrointestinal infection since February and won't be with the Pelicans during training camp. With Cheick Diallo impressing during the offseason, he's likely earned some backup minutes behind DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis. As for Asik, he couldn't be any further off the fantasy radar.
Sep 25 - 1:46 PM

Omer Asik (illness) will not play for Turkey at Eurobasket this summer.

Asik has been battling a gastrointestinal infection since February and the report adds that he's still getting treatment. There's no known timetable for his return, but at this point it's time to consider him questionable for the start of training camp in September. He's not a lock to be in the rotation next season and the Pelicans will obviously be shopping his awful contract.
Jul 30 - 12:20 PM

Omer Asik (illness) will not play again this season.

He was diagnosed with a gastrointestinal infection and is expected to return to basketball activities in 3-4 weeks. The Pelicans may try to move Asik's contract this summer.

Mar 30 - 4:05 PM

Omer Asik (illness) is unlikely to play again this season.

He hasn't played since the All-Star Game due to a bacterial infection and coach Alvin Gentry didn't sound very optimistic about Asik coming back. "He went through a tough time trying to see what was wrong with him," Gentry said. "I think it’s a slim chance that he’ll be back playing this year."

Mar 24 - 2:17 PM

Omer Asik (illness) did not play vs. Miami on Wednesday.

The Pelicans have no use for Asik in the rotation with both Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins healthy. They're counting the days until his contract expires, but they still owe him a guaranteed $33.8 million through the 2019-20 season.
Mar 15 - 11:45 PM

Omer Asik (illness) will remain on the sidelines for Tuesday's game against Portland.

Asik hasn't taken the court since Feb. 10, so we're going to flip his status to out indefinitely and stop updating him until we see some sort of signs of improvement.
Mar 13 - 5:04 PM

Omer Asik (illness) is listed as out for Saturday's game vs. the Hornets.

Asik has not appeared in a game since Feb. 10. Apparently, he is currently dealing with a bacterial infection. He should be left on waivers in all leagues.

Mar 10 - 11:53 AM

Omer Asik (illness) will not play on Wednesday vs. the Raptors.

He's been on the injury report with this illness for over two weeks, and coach Alvin Gentry said he may be dealing with a bacterial infection. Leave him on the wire.
Mar 7 - 7:31 PM

Omer Asik (illness) will remain on the sidelines for Monday's game against the Jazz.

Asik wasn't in the rotation prior to getting sick, so there are absolutely no fantasy implications with this report.
Mar 6 - 3:40 PM

Omer Asik (illness) may be dealing with a bacterial infection, according to Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry.

Gentry said that the illness could stem from Asik's trip to Mexico during the All-Star break. Even once he's healthy, however, Asik might not crack the rotation with DeMarcus Cousins in town and Alexis Ajinca playing well as a backup center.
Mar 5 - 8:45 PM

Omer Asik (illness) will not play against the Lakers on Sunday.

He's not in the rotation and the Pelicans even went just eight deep in an overtime loss to the Spurs. The Pelicans likely want to shed Asik's contract.
Mar 4 - 4:14 PM

Omer Asik (illness) is listed as out for Friday.

He's not in the rotation. Alexis Ajinca was actually solid in his backup role because DeMarcus Cousins was suspended. The Pelicans have to be regretting their contract on Asik.
