Omer Asik made his season debut on Friday, scoring six points on 3-of-5 shooting with one rebound in 11 minutes of action.
Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry has had nothing but praise for Asik's efforts to return from a severe illness. "The guy lost almost 30 pounds," Gentry said recently. "To just get the weight back on and then to be able to get on the court at all has been a real, real battle." It's great to see Asik healthy and active, but he's not a fantasy factor while New Orleans is at full strength. Sat, Nov 25, 2017 12:23:00 AM

Coach Alvin Gentry said that Omer Asik (illness) is "getting really close" to returning to game action.

Asik hasn't appeared in a game since February of last season. He was diagnosed with Crohn's disease and lost 30 pounds over the course of a few months. "He's getting really close, I think, to being able to play a few minutes here and there," Gentry said. "He hasn't been able to run or condition or anything like that. Even when he's released to play, it's going to take a while for him to be able to play anything other than really short spurts." Even when fully healthy, Asik has limited fantasy value. He should be left on waivers in all leagues.

Omer Asik (illness) is not expected to play on Wednesday.

The good news is he is active for this game. Asik likely won't see minutes while the Pelicans are healthy and in close games.

Omer Asik (illness) has been upgraded to questionable for Wednesday's game against the Spurs.

This is the first time Asik has been hit with the questionable-tag this season, but regardless of his playing status, he won't be receiving enough minutes in New Orleans while Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins are healthy to make an impact in fantasy hoops.

Omer Asik (illness) was present during Tuesday's practice and head coach Alvin Gentry said he hopes to have Asik back on the court "at some point this year."

Asik has been dealing with a pretty severe illness, so it's nice to see that he's at least at the point where he can attend practices. That said, the Pelicans are in no rush to get him back, and he won't play much at all once cleared as long as Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins are healthy, so he's safe to leave on the waiver wire in all settings.

Omer Asik (illness) will not suit up for Wednesday's game against the Grizzlies.

He's dealing with a pretty severe illness, and he might not play at all this season.

Omer Asik (ankylosing spondylitis, irritable bowel syndrome) will not play in Tuesday's preseason game against Chicago.

Asik has been dealing with a pretty serious illness since February, and there's a chance he might not play at all this season. The last report we had was that he was being treated for Crohn's disease in Minnesota, but it's worth noting that while his symptoms are similar to Crohn's disease, that hasn't been the official diagnosis to this point. We wish Asik the best in his recovery.

Omer Asik is currently in Minnesota being treated for Crohn's disease, and while he's made improvements, he's still not ready to play basketball.

It's unclear if Asik will be able to take the court this season, but we wish him the best in his recovery. The majority of the frontcourt minutes in New Orleans will be divvied up between Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins, with guys like Cheik Diallo, Alexis Ajinca and Dante Cunningham fighting over the scraps.

Omer Asik (illness) still has no timetable for a return.

He's been battling a gastrointestinal infection since February and won't be with the Pelicans during training camp. With Cheick Diallo impressing during the offseason, he's likely earned some backup minutes behind DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis. As for Asik, he couldn't be any further off the fantasy radar.

Omer Asik (illness) will not play for Turkey at Eurobasket this summer.

Asik has been battling a gastrointestinal infection since February and the report adds that he's still getting treatment. There's no known timetable for his return, but at this point it's time to consider him questionable for the start of training camp in September. He's not a lock to be in the rotation next season and the Pelicans will obviously be shopping his awful contract.

Omer Asik (illness) is unlikely to play again this season.

He hasn't played since the All-Star Game due to a bacterial infection and coach Alvin Gentry didn't sound very optimistic about Asik coming back. "He went through a tough time trying to see what was wrong with him," Gentry said. "I think it’s a slim chance that he’ll be back playing this year."

Omer Asik (illness) did not play vs. Miami on Wednesday.

The Pelicans have no use for Asik in the rotation with both Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins healthy. They're counting the days until his contract expires, but they still owe him a guaranteed $33.8 million through the 2019-20 season.

Omer Asik (illness) will remain on the sidelines for Tuesday's game against Portland.

Asik hasn't taken the court since Feb. 10, so we're going to flip his status to out indefinitely and stop updating him until we see some sort of signs of improvement.

Omer Asik (illness) is listed as out for Saturday's game vs. the Hornets.

Asik has not appeared in a game since Feb. 10. Apparently, he is currently dealing with a bacterial infection. He should be left on waivers in all leagues.
