Nick Calathes barely stepped on the court during Tuesday's road win, as Mike Conley (face) returned to the starting lineup and Beno Udrih served as the Grizzlies' primary backup PG.
Calathes struggled as a starter in Conley's absence, going scoreless with two assists vs. three turnovers in 21 minutes during Sunday's Game 1 defeat. Conley's left calf appeared to cramp up down the stretch, thrusting Calathes into the game momentarily, and we're not expecting him to play a substantial role in Game 3. May 6 - 1:41 AM

Date:

Nick Calathes started at PG on Sunday but he failed to score in 21 minutes, going 0-of-4 from the field and 0-of-2 at the FT line with one rebound, two assists, three steals and three turnovers.

Paging Mike Conley. The Warriors also held Beno Udrih to seven points and one assist in 19 minutes off the bench, while their own MVP point guard pitched in a game-high 22 points. It's a wildly lopsided matchup but Calathes, who played well in the first round, will need to have a short memory with Game 2 looming on Tuesday.
May 3 - 7:45 PM

Nick Calathes will remain in the starting lineup for Sunday's Game 1 vs. the Warriors.

Calathes will split minutes with Beno Udrih at the point guard position with Mike Conley (face) unavailable for this one. However, he'll get a very tough matchup against Stephen Curry of the Warriors, so owners of Calathes should temper their expectations.
May 3 - 2:47 PM

Nick Calathes drew another start in Game 5 vs. the Blazers on Wednesday, scoring six points on 3-of-10 shooting with four assists and four boards in 29 minutes.

Beno Udrih played just 15 minutes and clearly wasn't 100 percent, and Mike Conley (face) still has no timetable for a return. Calathes could potentially start the rest of the way for the Grizzlies, but he will have a very unfavorable matchup with the Grizzlies set to face Stephen Curry and the Warriors in the next round. However, if Calathes continues to flirt with 30 minutes of action, he would be an interesting option in daily leagues.
Apr 30 - 12:53 AM

Nick Calathes scored 12 points in his first postseason start on Monday to go with three rebounds, two assists, three steals and four 3-pointers in 24 minutes.

He was 4-of-10 from the field and did a decent job on the defensive side. Beno Udrih wasn't at 100 percent and that may have been why Calathes drew the start. The pair will likely be looking at a close to a 50/50 split again in Game 5 on Wednesday.
Apr 28 - 1:17 AM

Nick Calathes will start at point guard against the Blazers on Monday.

Beno Udrih arrived in a walking boot to the arena, so he's not at 100 percent. Based on that information, it's hard to like either guy with so much uncertainty. The two might split the minutes down the middle, but it could go either way depending on Udrih's ankle.
Apr 27 - 10:17 PM

Nick Calathes stepped up for the Grizzlies down the stretch during their Game 3 win over the Blazers on Saturday, scoring 13 points with four boards, three assists, one block and two 3-pointers in 27 minutes.

Mike Conley was forced to leave the game with an eye injury and Beno Udrih was held out tonight because of his ankle, so it was up to Calathes to close out the game and he certainly didn't disappoint. There is no word on whether or not Conley will have to miss time, but Beno Udrih is expected to return for Game 4 on Monday. Owners in daily leagues should keep a close eye on the injury report.
Apr 26 - 1:31 AM

Nick Calathes scored 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting with five rebounds, three assists and two steals in 24 minutes off the bench with Mike Conley (ankle) out on Monday.

Calathes and Beno Udrih (nine points, five rebounds, two assists, one steal, 24 minutes) split the point guard minutes and that's going to be a nightmare for owners to figure out from night-to-night. Unless you're getting a great price on them in a DFS league, they're not worth pursuing for however long Conley is out.
Mar 16 - 11:30 PM

Nick Calathes scored four points on 1-of-9 from the field against the Wizards on Thursday with seven rebounds, three assists and one 3-pointer in 28 minutes.

He played in garbage time, so the playing time is a little misleading. Calathes is a decent stat guy when he gets run and he did have a handful of good games last season while Mike Conley was on the shelf, but he'll need more than just a Conley injury to be relevant in standard leagues.
Mar 12 - 11:43 PM

Nick Calathes may head back to Europe when he becomes a free agent after the 2014-15 season.

Calathes is reportedly unhappy with his current backup role and would presumably get a larger contract in Europe. The 26-year-old has previously played overseas and has previously said he'd like to play in Greece again for Panathinaikos. Calathes is currently averaging 13.1 minutes and has 4.1 points, 2,5 assists, 1.3 rebounds this season and can safely be left on the wire in all leagues.
Mar 5 - 9:33 AM

Nick Calathes thrived with an expanded role on Tuesday, coming off the bench for 13 points, two 3-pointers, five rebounds, two assists and two steals in Mike Conley's absence.

Beno Udrih started so Calathes had the backup job all to himself, and he reminded NBA fans why the Grizzlies inked the 25-year-old to a two-year contract in 2013. Conley's sprained wrist isn't likely to keep him out for long, so Calathes is only worth considering as a streaming play in most leagues.
Jan 27 - 11:09 PM

Nick Calathes played 23 minutes on Saturday vs. the Nuggets, scoring four points on 2-of-9 shooting to go with five assists, two boards and one block.

After five straight DNPs, he finally got back into the rotation on Saturday due to the injury of Beno Udrih (leg contusion). However, unless Udrih sees more time on the sidelines, Calathes shouldn't be owned in all but the deepest of leagues.
Jan 4 - 1:02 AM

Grizzlies PG Nick Calathes played eight minutes in his season debut on Sunday, having served his 20-game suspension for violating the league's drug policy.

Calathes entered to an ovation from the home crowd in Memphis, but finished scoreless with just one rebound to his credit. He and Beno Udrih (11 points, five assists in 20 minutes) will compete for backup PG minutes behind Mike Conley, but right now Udrih is the guy to own in deep leagues.

Nick Calathes' has served his 13-game suspension and will be available to play Sunday vs. the Clippers, sending Jordan Adams to the inactives list.

Head coach David Joerger said that he'll be bringing Calathes back slowly, so there's not much upside here. He'll serve as a third-string point guard, playing behind Mike Conley and Beno Udrih, so he can remain on the waiver wire in most leagues.

Nick Calathes scored a team-high 14 points for Greece in a losing effort vs. Serbia in Sunday's World Cup elimination game.

Calathes had a nice tournament but his Greek team bowed out in the round of 16, while Serbia, led by Bogdan Bogdanovic, will advance to the quarterfinals. Calathes will rejoin the Grizzlies but must sit out the first 13 games due to last season's suspension. When he does return he'll be fighting Beno Udrih for reserve PG minutes.
