Gerald Henderson underwent hip surgery on Thursday.
Henderson has been dealing with nagging hip pain for over five years and finally decided he wanted to have the hip operated on. According to his agent, Henderson will start rehab as early as next week in preparation for his return to the NBA. Henderson is still a free agent, so he'll have to convince a team he is healthy enough to play once he gets close to 100%. He won't have fantasy relevance anytime in the near future. Gerald Henderson (hip) will have hip surgery and could miss the entire 2017-18 season, according to Chris Haynes of

He just hasn't been able to shake this hip injury, which has bothered him for most of this decade. Henderson was waived last month and is an unrestricted free agent, so chances are a team won't be looking to add him until he shows he's healthy. Henderson is still only 29, but the frequent injuries suggest he only has a handful of useful seasons left in his NBA career.

Sixers waive G/F Gerald Henderson.

The 29-year-old wing had a solid year as a veteran presence on the young Philly team, averaging 9.2 points per game in his 72 outings. The 76ers added a lot of talent and figure to make a splash in free agency with another wing, so Henderson could wind up as a bench vet on another team.
Jun 30 - 5:14 PM

The 76ers still haven't decided if they will pick up Gerald Henderson's $9 million team option for 2017-18.

The 76ers only have a few roster spots open and are hoping to make a splash in free agency, so they are likely leaning towards declining it. The 76ers have been linked to shooting guards such as J.J. Redick and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and they already have several interesting young SGs in Timothe Luwawu, Justin Anderson and Furkan Korkmaz. The deadline is Friday, but expect Henderson to fine a new home in 2017-18.
Jun 26 - 11:49 AM

76ers reporter Tom Moore said there's a "good chance" the team will decline Gerald Henderson's option for next season.

The 76ers are now expected to bring over draft-and-stash prospect Furkan Korkmaz next season and they already have Robert Covington, Timothe Luwawu and Nik Stauskas, so it makes sense for them to move on from Henderson since he's owed a non-guaranteed $9 million in 2017-18. The 29-year-old veteran averaged 9.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.8 3-pointers in 23.2 minutes per game last season.
Jun 24 - 10:38 AM

Gerald Henderson played 30 minutes off the bench in Philly's finale, scoring four points on 2-of-4 shooting with three assists and one steal.

It was a fittingly quiet finish for the veteran SG. His $9 million contract isn't guaranteed until June and it's a certainty that Philly will cut him loose, even though they like him as a mentor for their young guys. Henderson doesn't have a fantasy-friendly game, making him a tough sell in any situation.
Apr 12 - 10:54 PM

Gerald Henderson finished with six points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal in 23 minutes off the bench before being ejected Monday against the Pacers.

Henderson tossed an errant elbow at Paul George and both players were ejected after the incident. While George is likely good to go for Wednesday's game and the playoffs, Henderson's status is a bit murky for the regular season finale against the Knicks.
Apr 10 - 10:04 PM

Gerald Henderson (hip) is available on Thursday vs. the Bulls.

Henderson has been listed as probable for four straight games, but has played in all of them. The 76ers are short-handed at the moment, but it wouldn't be surprising if Henderson picked up a DNP-rest soon. He's not a fantasy option in most formats.
Apr 6 - 12:33 PM

Gerald Henderson (hip) played 18 minutes on Tuesday vs. the Nets, scoring nine points with two rebounds, one assist and one triple.

Henderson has been listed as probable for four straight games, but he played in each one of them. He's due for a DNP at some point, so leave him on the wire.
Apr 4 - 10:50 PM

Gerald Henderson (hip) is listed as probable for Tuesday's game vs. Brooklyn.

Henderson has been listed as probable and then played in each of the Sixers last three games. However, he is averaging just 7.3 points and 2.9 rebounds in 19.0 minutes over the last month. He belongs on waivers.
Apr 4 - 11:44 AM

Gerald Henderson (sore left hip) finished Sunday's road loss with 12 points, four rebounds, two steals and a pair of 3-pointers in 18 minutes off the bench.

The veteran continues to defy the odds as a staple of the Sixers' youthful rotation. He's basically an on-court coach and his role isn't conducive to fantasy value.
Apr 2 - 8:47 PM

Gerald Henderson (left hip soreness) is probable for Sunday's game vs. the Raptors.

The veteran logged 19 minutes after being deemed 'probable' for Friday's game, so we're likely to see a similar workload tonight.
Apr 2 - 4:36 PM

Gerald Henderson (sore hip) is probable for Friday's game vs. the Cavs.

Henderson is averaging 6.2 points and shooting just 27.9 percent from the floor in 17.9 minutes over his last six games. He should be left on waivers in all leagues.
Mar 31 - 12:04 PM

Gerald Henderson (sore hip) played 22 minutes during Wednesday's home loss, scoring five points with four rebounds, two assists, one steal, one 3-pointer and three turnovers.

Henderson's shot wasn't falling tonight, as he went just 2-of-10 from the field with one 3-pointer, and he also turned the ball over three times. The Sixers had nine players on their active roster tonight and Henderson is the rare veteran to stick in the rotation on a young, rebuilding team, but he's still not a fantasy asset.
Mar 29 - 10:18 PM

Gerald Henderson (hip) is probable to play against the Hawks on Wednesday.

He'll be coming off the bench and the 76ers should take a long look at Justin Anderson in the starting lineup. Henderson isn't worth owning as the 76ers may look at their young guys more than they have before this point.
