Patty Mills started at PG on Friday and had nine points, two assists, one rebound, one 3-pointer and three turnovers in 22 minutes during a win vs. the Rockets.
Dejounte Murray was out tonight with a minor hip injury, and Tony Parker (quad) is out until at least December, so Mills should begin the season with an expanded role. It seems likely that he'll be leading the second unit, with Murray starting at PG on opening night, but that's not set in stone. Mills is a decent target if you need a cheap PG in deeper leagues, but don't expect too much -- last year's 3.5 assists per game were a career high. Oct 13 - 10:55 PM

Patty Mills will be rested for Sunday's preseason matchup with the Nuggets.

With Tony Parker (leg) slated to begin the first couple months of the 2017-18 season on the sidelines, Mills could open the year as San Antonio's starting point guard, so expect them to take it very easy on him during the preseason. Mills could be someone to think about towards the later rounds on draft day for those seeking some 3-point shooting.
Oct 8 - 2:48 PM

Patty Mills officially re-signed with the Spurs.

In case you missed it, Mills will be under contract for $50 million over the next four seasons. Tony Parker (leg) likely won't make it back to the court until January at the earliest, and while coach Gregg Popovich prefers to keep Mills in the second unit, he's still looking at minutes in the mid-to-high 20s right out of the gate. He averaged 9.5 points, 3.5 assists, 1.8 rebounds, 0.8 steals and 1.8 3-pointers last season, so he's more a late-round option.
Aug 6 - 11:37 AM

Patty Mills has agreed to a four-year, $50 million deal to stay with San Antonio.

With Tony Parker (leg) banged up and unlikely to start the season, brining Mills back was an important part of San Antonio's plan. It's also a solid value for a guy who has proven he can play both on and off the ball. This does also make it less likely they can go after another point guard, which may also show their confidence in Dejounte Murray. Coach Gregg Popovich really likes Mills off the bench, so expect Mills to be looking at minutes in the mid 20s again next year.
Jul 1 - 12:03 AM

Patty Mills scored 14 points on 4-of-13 shooting in Monday's Game 4 loss, adding four rebounds, three assists, one block and three triples in 30 minutes.

He's going to be kicking himself all summer because he was very disappointing in this series, but Mills did have a solid 2016-17 campaign with regular-season averages of 9.5 points, 3.5 assists, 1.8 rebounds, 0.8 steals and 1.8 3-pointers on 44.0 percent shooting in 21.9 minutes per game. The PG will hit free agency this summer and turns 29 in July, so he can expect a massive raise after playing for just $3.5 million this season. Dejounte Murray is probably ready to take on more responsibility in San Antonio, so it's not a lock that Mills will be back with the Spurs.
May 22 - 11:46 PM

Patty Mills made 2-of-10 from the field for seven points with one rebound, six assists, two steals and one 3-pointer in 33 minutes against the Warriors on Saturday.

He's been awful in this series and it's becoming even more clear why coach Gregg Popovich likes to bring him off the bench. Maybe Pop makes a change to start Dejounte Murray over Mills, but the Aussie guard should get heavy minutes regardless.
May 20 - 11:33 PM

Patty Mills struggled in his start against the Warriors in Game 1 on Sunday, making 1-of-8 from the field for five points with two rebounds, three assists, two steals and one turnover in 37 minutes.

It was not his best game on the offensive end with several wide-open misses. Before the game, coach Gregg Popovich was asked about Mills' upcoming free agency this summer. "I don't want to talk too much about Patty Mills because the more good things I say, the more we're going to have to pay him," Pop said. Bad game aside, Mills should get heavy minutes and he did handle the ball much more when Kawhi Leonard (ankle) was out for Game 6, so he could have an even bigger role.
May 14 - 6:24 PM

Coach Gregg Popovich said Patty Mills will start in Game 1 against the Warriors.

This is the expected move, but it wasn't 100 percent given how Game 6 went on Thursday. Dejounte Murray was phenomenal in that one and coach Gregg Popovich sounded like he may trust him with minutes. Pop used a Mills-Murray combo for six minutes in that game, but that likely had to do with Kawhi Leonard (ankle) not playing. Expect to see Mills get most of the minutes at the point today. Daily Slant: This postseason, Mills has played 116.8 minutes with Aldridge and Leonard on the court and Tony Parker off; in that sample, he set a per-36 pace of 23.04 DK points with a usage rate of 18.4%. Since earning the starting job his price has jumped across the industry, preventing him from being a great value. On top of that, he has a tough matchup and there are three elite PGs available, two of whom are in a Game 7 and playing softer defenses. It may make sense to pay up at PG and save elsewhere.
May 14 - 2:14 PM

Patty Mills scored 20 points to lead the Spurs to a 110-107 overtime win over the Rockets in Game 5 on Tuesday.

Coach Gregg Popovich moved Mills into the starting lineup in order to have more floor spacing and the move payed dividends, as Mills finished 7-of-16 from the field and 5-of-12 from beyond the arc in his 43 minutes with four assists, one rebound and one steal. The Spurs didn't even use rookie PG Dejounte Murray tonight and deployed Manu Ginobili as the sixth man, and since Tony Parker won't be walking through that door again this season, Mills is locked and loaded the rest of the way in fantasy leagues.
May 9 - 11:19 PM

Patty Mills will move into the starting lineup for Tuesday's Game 5 matchup against the Rockets, sending Dejounte Murray back to the bench.

Murray was moved into the starting lineup when Tony Parker went down with the quad injury, but he was only averaging 17.3 minutes a night. Mills should be able to flirt with minutes in the mid-30s tonight, while Murray might not see his minutes climb past the 10-minute mark as a reserve.
May 9 - 6:24 PM

Patty Mills scored 15 points with five rebounds, two assists, two steals and two 3-pointers in 30 minutes against the Rockets on Friday.

The Spurs didn't totally abandon their multi-guard lineups and Mills saw heavy run in the fourth quarter. Coach Gregg Popovich has always liked Mills in the second unit, but he'll be the favorite to close out the remaining close games going forward. Expect him to score in the teens with minutes around 30-32 most nights.
May 6 - 12:23 AM

Patty Mills went off for 20 points in a 116-103 Game 5 win over the Grizzlies on Tuesday.

He's capable of offensive explosions like this one, but he was held in check during the previous four games of this series with averages of 7.8 points, 1.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.8 triples. Mills hit 7-of-10 shots with five 3-pointers, two rebounds and one assist in 22 minutes, but he will be a volatile fantasy asset going forward because Tony Parker has found his legs during the playoffs. Parker finished with 16 points, six assists, two rebounds, one steal and two 3-pointers in 30 minutes.
Apr 26 - 12:11 AM

Patty Mills scored three points with three rebounds, two assists, one steal and one 3-pointer in 24 minutes against the Clippers on Saturday.

That's two disappointing games in a row for Mills, so maybe he has a rest day coming. There is a chance Dejounte Murray could make it back in the regular season, so that would make a Mills rest day more likely.
Apr 8 - 10:47 PM

Patty Mills struggled in a start on Friday vs. the Mavericks with two points on 1-of-7 shooting.

The Spurs were resting seven players and Mills averaged 13.6 points, 6.0 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 2.7 triples in seven previous starts this season, so he was a huge flop. He missed all four of his 3-pointers with five assists and one rebound, and even though Tony Parker (DNP-CD) and Dejounte Murray (groin) didn't play, Bryn Forbes came out of nowhere and scored 27 points. That gave coach Gregg Popovich a reason to take it easy on Mills, so expect him to bounce back in his next outing. He could very easily be rested in one of the final three games of the season, though.
Apr 7 - 11:31 PM

Patty Mills will start on Friday vs. the Mavericks.

The Spurs are resting six players on Friday, so Mills looks like a nice DFS play. In seven starts this season, Mills has posted averages of 13.6 points, 6.0 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 2.7 triples.
