Darren Collison reiterated that he views himself as a starting point guard.
Collison gave a half-hearted endorsement when asked if he wanted to return to Dallas as a restricted free agent. When asked if he'd return in a reserve role, he offered, "I'm not going to say no, because I definitely experienced it, and I'm capable of playing off the bench. At the same time, I just know who I am as a person and as a player. I'm capable of playing for any team as a starter." His free agency will be one of the more interesting offseason storylines to monitor. Apr 19 - 9:30 AM

Date:

Darren Collison showed up in the season finale on Wednesday during a 99-87 win over New Orleans, shooting 10-of-15 from the field for 25 points with two boards, four assists, two steals, one block and one 3-pointer.

It was another disappointing season for Collison, which is something that has happened all too often since his big rookie season in New Orleans. He's not someone worth targeting in most fantasy leagues.
Apr 17 - 11:48 PM

Darren Collison scored 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting (no threes) with one rebound, eight assists, one steal and one block in 30 minutes off the bench on Friday.

Collison has nudged ahead of Mike James (eight points, two assists, 18 minutes) in the position battle and is worth a look if you need point guard help.
Apr 6 - 2:14 AM

Darren Collison shot 5-of-12 from the field for 11 points with one board, six assists, three steals and one 3-pointer against the Lakers on Tuesday.

He played 29 minutes in the loss and looked better than starter Mike James (no points, two boards, four assists and two steals in 19 minutes). This is a full-blown timeshare and neither player will be a top-three scoring option for Dallas, so neither guy is worth owning in standard leagues.
Apr 3 - 1:30 AM

Darren Collison scored eight points off the bench with one board, three assists and one steal in 23 minutes against the Bulls on Saturday.

Dallas' bench was big in the win and Collison's transition game was helpful. Although, he and Mike James (five points, seven assists and two turnovers) are in a true timeshare and standard leagues owners should probably look elsewhere for help on the waiver wire.
Mar 30 - 5:32 PM

Darren Collison, as usual, came off the bench behind Mike James and had 13 points, four assists, a steal, a block and a 3-pointer on 3-of-6 shooting in 25 minutes on Tuesday.

Collison owners caught a break when Mike James fouled out of this one, or Collison's line wouldn't have been quite as nice. He's barely clinging to value with James starting and is far from a must-start in fantasy as long as he's coming off the bench.
Mar 27 - 1:21 AM

Darren Collison, who blew up for 24 points and five assists on 10-of-14 shooting on Monday, had just eight points and three assists in 20 minutes of Wednesday's loss to the Nets.

This was the Collison we've seen a lot more often recently, as the one with the big line on Monday was more of a fluke. As long as Collison is coming off the bench behind Mike James for Dallas, he's going to be tough to start in fantasy lineups.
Mar 21 - 12:49 AM

Darren Collison scored 24 points off the bench on Monday, hitting 10-of-14 shots (including two threes) with one rebound and five assists against the Hawks.

The Hawks came into tonight flat and their second unit is pretty awful, so Collison took advantage and is worth adding in the event he was dropped. He will mix in some stinkers but he is the player to be owned between he and Mike James (nine points, three assists, two steals, four turnovers, 23 minutes) for the potential of nights like these.
Mar 19 - 12:17 AM

Darren Collison scored 13 points off the bench on Friday against the Cavs, hitting 5-of-9 shots (including a three) with three rebounds, five assists and one steal in 23 minutes.

Collison got to tee off on the Cavs' non-existent second unit but this certainly puts him back on the standard league radar. Starter Mike James scored seven points on 3-of-7 shooting with two rebounds, four assists, one steal and one three in 21 minutes, and Collison is the slight favorite between the two to hold value in those formats, at least for right now.
Mar 16 - 12:18 AM

Darren Collison was quiet again on Thursday, scoring 12 points with two boards, one assist and no turnovers against the Spurs.

He shot 6-of-8 from the field, but he failed to make a triple for the fourth game in a row. What's more, Collison has just one steal on his previous five and shot 34.3 percent from the field in that span. He's safe to drop in standard leagues at this point.
Mar 14 - 11:01 PM

Darren Collison admitted to dealing with vision issues after suffering an eye injury in Tuesday's game.

"I tried to play through it, but when I was guarding Monta (Ellis) I saw two Monta's," he said. Collison had just eight points in 17 minutes, and it's telling that he hasn't been able to emerge at all this season despite the obvious issues Dallas has at point guard. If Collison misses time, Mike James and Roddy Beaubois would be pressed into more action with O.J. Mayo helping with the point guard responsibilities as well.
Mar 13 - 8:30 AM

Darren Collison played 17 minutes off the bench on Tuesday and had eight points, one board and no assists.

He didn't have a steal or a 3-pointer either. Collison suffered an eye injury and missed some time in the first half, but that's no excuse and his value is really floundering these days. While it's nice that he's coming off back-to-back eight-assist games, he's not scoring, providing steals or hitting making threes, so he's moved out of the conversation in standard leagues.
Mar 12 - 11:33 PM

Darren Collison suffered an eye injury in the first half on Tuesday's game and is available to return.

Collison got hit in the eye with the ball. He received attention from the medical staff and Collison and returned to the game.
Mar 12 - 8:57 PM

Darren Collison played 23 minutes off the bench against the Rockets, scoring just seven points with two boards, five assists and one 3-pointer in 23 minutes on Wednesday.

He has really fallen off lately and Rick Carlisle opted to punish him by moving him to the bench. Collison was terrible against Jeremy Lin on Sunday, so this could have just been a matchup play. He's still worth owning in all standard leagues, but we'll be monitoring this situation closely. Mike James played 25 minutes, scoring eight points with three boards and six assists, but he's only worth a look in deep leagues for now.
Mar 7 - 12:15 AM

Darren Collison will come off the bench against the Mavericks on Wednesday.

He got torched by Jeremy Lin and the Rockets on Sunday, so this is likely just a matchup move. Collison should get his job back for the weekend and he's still worth owning in all leagues. Mike James will start.
