George Karl said that Rajon Rondo and Darren Collison could play together because Rondo is a "pass-first point guard."
"My feeling is that [Rondo’s] a pass-first point guard, which I think is important and I think in the end it really excites me," Karl said of Rondo and Collison sharing the floor. "We have two guys who can take control of the team and play together and keep the pace of the game. We can play with a lot of freedom and creativity but also play without turnovers." Collison is expected to ready for the start of the season after his 2014-15 campaign was cut short after undergoing core muscle surgery, but the arrival of Rondo really limits his upside. It's great that Collison could see some time next to Rondo, but he is a late-round flier at best while he is coming off the bench. Aug 9 - 11:05 AM

Darren Collison (core muscle surgery) has begun to walk and do core exercises, and he revealed that he'd been dealing with the issue for years.

"During the Dallas game this past year, that's when I really pulled something and the specialist said that I had torn something," Collison said. "And then ... he realized that I have been damaging this for like a very, very long time even going back to my Indiana days." The Kings won't try to rush Collison back this season but he should be fine for the start of the 2015-16 campaign. In his absence, Ray McCallum will continue to start with Andre Miller backing him up.

Darren Collison will miss approximately six weeks after Tuesday's surgery to repair a core muscle, effectively ending his season.

"My gut right now from the standpoint of basketball is it would probably be silly to try to rush him back," coach George Karl said. Ray McCallum has crept into standard-league relevance as the starting PG in Collison's absence, with both Andre Miller and Nik Stauskas playing larger roles off the bench.
Mar 4 - 1:23 AM

Darren Collison underwent successful surgery to repair a core muscle injury, and he is expected to remain sidelined for approximately 6-weeks.

The NBA regular season ends in 6-weeks, so it's seems very likely that this will be the end to Collison's season. He'll finish with averages of 16.1 points, 5.6 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.3 three-pointers per game on 47.3 percent shooting from the field. Andre Miller and Ray McCallum will continue to man the point guard position in Sacramento with Collison out, but their timeshare will limit their value to deeper leagues.
Mar 3 - 7:00 PM

Darren Collison will reportedly undergo surgery to repair a core muscle injury on Tuesday, and he will likely remain sidelined for the remainder of the 2014-15 season.

Collison will be re-evaluated in 3-6 weeks after undergoing surgery, but with the fantasy playoffs looming and multiple reports stating that his season is likely over, it's probably safe at this point to drop Collison in standard leagues. Ray McCallum and Andre Miller will split minutes at the point guard spot with Collison sidelined, but neither guy makes for a strong add in standard leagues.
Feb 26 - 3:07 PM

The Kings do not have much optimism that Darren Collison (hip flexor strain) will return this season, according to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports.

He traveled to see a specialist in L.A. and apparently it did not go well. Following an initial MRI, the Kings called Collison "doubtful" to play back on Feb. 6, so this news would be a surprise. Fantasy owners should start planning on Collison missing extended time and he's not a must-own player if you really need to make a move for a hot free agent. Ray McCallum would gain the most value and is worth a look in deep leagues.
Feb 26 - 2:36 AM

Darren Collison (hip) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Grizzlies.

He will reportedly meet with a specialist in Los Angeles, so we will pass along any additional updates as soon as we know more. Collison has been sidelined since Feb. 5th, and with season averages of 16.1 points, 5.6 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game, his owners can only hope to get some good news soon with fantasy playoffs looming. Ray McCallum will likely draw another start on Wednesday, but he will likely split minutes with veteran Andre Miller, meaning they are only worth a look in deeper leagues.
Feb 24 - 7:41 PM

Darren Collison (hip flexor) will travel to Los Angeles to see a specialist.

It doesn't sound like he's going to play against the Grizzlies on Wednesday. Collison has been out for almost three weeks and he doesn't have a timetable to return. His owners should just bench him for now and hope we get good news in the next couple days. With Collison out, Ray McCallum has played minutes in the 20s, but he's not a great add in standard leagues.
Feb 23 - 4:41 PM

Darren Collison (hip) will not play against the Clippers on Saturday night.

It will be his sixth game out of the lineup due to his strained hip flexor, but he should have a chance to play in the Kings' next game on Wednesday. With Collison out, Ray McCallum and Andre Miller will likely split the point guard minutes down the middle. It doesn't really matter much for fantasy owners because Rudy Gay and DeMarcus Cousins will get most of the shots. For what it's worth, they had a combined usage rate of 61.3 on Friday.
Feb 21 - 3:52 PM

Darren Collison (hip) will not play on Friday against the Celtics.

He has a hip flexor injury, which can cause players to miss multiple weeks in some cases. Collison should also be considered slightly doubtful to play on Saturday. Ray McCallum, who has played 48 minutes in an NBA game twice last season, should start and see massive minutes. David Stockton will back him up.
Feb 20 - 4:05 PM

Darren Collison (hip) was unable to go through a full practice on Thursday, but he is hopeful to play Friday vs. the Celitcs.

Owners can expect to get another update on Collison following Friday morning's shootaround, and if he's unable to go, Ray McCallum will get all the run he can handle in a favorable matchup against the Celtics. Stay tuned.
Feb 19 - 4:43 PM

Darren Collison (hip) appears doubtful to play on Friday, according to Kings beat writer Jason Jones.

Collison was limited on Wednesday and there's still a chance that he can suit up vs. the Celtics, but owners should prepare to be without him for another game. Ray McCallum could wind up playing heavy minutes if Collison can't suit up, especially if newly-acquired Andre Miller isn't ready to play.
Feb 19 - 12:27 PM

Darren Collison (hip) was limited in practice on Wednesday.

It doesn't sound like he is going to play on Friday. That's interesting because the Kings may also deal Ramon Sessions, which means Ray McCallum may see major minutes. The second-year guard hasn't made any strides this season, averaging 4.4 points, 1.8 boards, 1.5 assists and 0.4 steals in 14.1 minutes per game this season. He's only worth a look in deep leagues while Collison owners should plan on benching him.
Feb 18 - 9:56 PM

Darren Collison (hip) will not play against the Bucks on Wednesday.

Collison will now have a full eight days to recover during the All-Star break so he should be able to return on Feb. 20 against the Celtics. Ramon Sessions will likely to continue to start for the Kings on Wednesday with Ray McCallum backing him up, but they have both been too inconsistent to use outside of deeper leagues. We will continue to track Collison's progress in the coming week so be sure to check back for updates.
Feb 11 - 1:59 PM

Darren Collison (hip) will miss Tuesday's game against the Bulls.

The Ramon Sessions train will keep chugging for at least another night in Chicago now that Collison is out. Sessions has averaged 10.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists with Collison out over the last two games and is a solid plug-and-play option in daily leagues as long as Collison is out.
