Toney Douglas believes that he was brought to the Indiana Pacers for a reason.
"We really haven’t gotten into detail about me being here, but I know I’m here for a reason," Douglas said of signing with the Pacers. "I feel like I can bring veteran leadership on the defensive end and the offensive end. I feel like we can take our defense to another level." Douglas sounds confident that he will be a good fit with the Pacers, but he will have a tough time carving out a role in a very crowded backcourt and can be ignored in fantasy leagues. Pacers consultant Donnie Walsh described newly-signed G Toney Douglas as an unconventional PG who fits Indiana's new up-tempo system.

Walsh emphasized Douglas' defensive abilities and Pacers president Larry Bird has already suggested that he can play both PG and SG this season. The veteran guard will have a hard time carving out fantasy-relevant minutes, however, given that Indy's backcourt already features George Hill, Monta Ellis, Rodney Stuckey and C.J. Miles.

Indiana Pacers sign G Toney Douglas.

Terms of the deal have not yet been announced, but Douglas will now join his fifth team in seven NBA seasons. "He’s a veteran player who’s a good pro and he can play two positions," said Pacers President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird. "He’s the type of player we’re looking for with our new style of play." Douglas has averaged just 7.6 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game in his NBA career and can safely be left on waivers in all fantasy leagues.

Free agent guard Toney Douglas will sign a deal with the Pacers.

Douglas just cleared waivers after being released from the Pelicans, so it clearly didn't take him long to land another deal. He is already in Indiana working out for the Pacers, so it shouldn't be too long before he puts pen to paper. Douglas will likely just be emergency depth in Indiana and isn't a lock to make the final roster, so he shouldn't be considered in fantasy leagues.
Aug 6 - 5:52 PM

Toney Douglas has officially cleared waivers and is now a free agent.

Douglas averaged 4.3 points, 2.0 assists, 1.8 boards and 0.9 steals in 12 appearances with the Pelicans last season, and he should be able to get a camp invite from another NBA team. However, Douglas is not on the fantasy radar.

Pelicans waive G Toney Douglas.

They avoid guaranteeing his deal and he will become a free agent. Douglas played in just 12 games last season with the Pelicans, making just 37.3 percent from the field. He'll likely get a camp invite somewhere.

A decision regarding the contract of Toney Douglas will be made shortly, but the expectation is that he will be waived by the Pelicans.

Douglas latched on with the Pelicans last season due to a slew of injuries, but his chances of making the 2015-16 roster were never good. The Pelicans are also hoping to re-sign Norris Cole, so Douglas isn't really needed anyways. We will pass along additional details when we know more.
Jul 31 - 1:11 PM

Pelicans re-sign Toney Douglas.

While the terms of the deal are still undisclosed, Douglas will re-join the Pelicans for what we assume will be the rest of the season. He averaged 9.0 points, 4.0 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 22.0 minutes over three games with the Pelicans earlier this year and can be left on waivers in most fantasy leagues as he's unlikely to see many minutes for New Orleans.

Mar 24 - 11:04 AM

The Pelicans have reportedly waived G Toney Douglas.

The Pelicans don't need a backup point guard on a 10-day deal with the acquisition of Norris Cole, and Douglas will likely head to the D-League to showcase himself. He can be cut in all leagues.
Feb 19 - 3:50 PM

The Pelicans have signed guard Toney Douglas to a second 10-day contract on Wednesday.

He's currently boasting averages of 9.0 points, 4.0 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.0 3-pointer through three games with the Pelicans, and he will continue to have a decent role as long as Jrue Holiday (leg) remains sidelined. If you are in a deep league and these numbers appeal to you, give him a look for short-term value.

Feb 18 - 12:06 PM

The Pelicans have reportedly agreed on a second 10-day deal to re-sign G Toney Douglas after the All-Star break.

Through three games with the Pelicans Douglas has put in averages of 9.0 points, 4.0 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.0 three-pointer per game on 40.9 percent shooting from the field. He may be able to carve out some value in very deep leagues if Jrue Holiday (leg) remains sidelined after the All-Star break, but he's still not someone to target in standard leagues.
Feb 13 - 1:41 PM

Toney Douglas scored eight points on 2-of-7 shooting (including a three) with five rebounds, two assists, one steal and two blocks in 25 minutes off the bench on Monday.

If the Pelicans remain banged up he's worth a desperation look in spot-action, but otherwise he belongs on the wire in most standard formats.
Feb 10 - 2:56 AM

Pelicans sign G Toney Douglas.

His season in China recently ended and the Pelicans picking up another point guard doesn't bode well for Jrue Holiday (leg). Douglas is likely just an emergency guy, so he can be left on the wire in basically all leagues.

Feb 4 - 3:32 PM

Toney Douglas has a deal to play in China during the 2014-15 season, but could still return to the NBA this year.

Douglas took part in a free agent workout with the Lakers on Tuesday and hopes to hook on with the team after the Chinese Basketball Season ends in February. Douglas' deal with the Jiangsu Dragons allows him to sign an NBA contract before Sunday, but his agent said that the workout with the Lakers was more of a preemptive showcase.

Toney Douglas has signed a deal to play in China next season.

The Heat were never expected to bring him back with the selection of Shabazz Napier. Douglas showed some promise coming up with the Knicks, and may wind up back on an NBA team after the Chinese season is over.
