Toney Douglas will be available to play Monday vs. the Pelicans.
It'll be interesting to see how many minutes Douglas can earn in his Memphis debut, but with a favorable matchup against the Jrue Holiday-less (toe) Pelicans, he's someone to consider throwing out there as a DFS punt play. Fantasy GMs in most settings, however, can use a wait-and-see approach here. Dec 5 - 6:29 PM

The Grizzlies have signed veteran PG/SG Toney Douglas by using the NBA’s hardship rule.

He was the "frontrunner" to sign for the Grizzlies after they worked out a few point guards last week. With Mike Conley (back) looking at a multi-week absence, Douglas should immediately see minutes on his new team which puts him on the radar in deeper leagues. For now, most owners should use a wait-and-see approach because it's not clear how big of a role he will have. Andrew Harrison's owners should be slightly concenred as his value could take a hit with the arrival of Douglas. We'll let you know if he's active for Monday's game vs. the Pelicans.
Dec 5 - 12:04 PM

Toney Douglas "has emerged as the frontrunner" to join the Grizzlies, according to team beat writer Michael Wallace.

The Grizzlies are expected to get an NBA injury exception in the coming days to give them an extra roster spot. Douglas can play both guard spots and may have a chance to get minutes. This would also likely allow them bring Wade Baldwin IV along slowly. Andrew Harrison's value could take a hit, but he looks like the best one to own of the three.
Dec 1 - 9:33 PM

The Cavaliers have waived Toney Douglas.

They just signed him on Oct. 3, but he had a rough showing during the preseason. The Cavs have been linked to Mario Chalmers and they just re-signed J.R. Smith, so Douglas was expendable.
Oct 15 - 12:38 PM

The Cavaliers have signed free agent point guard Toney Douglas.

It's an excellent signing for the Cavs after Douglas put up averages of 8.7 points, 2.6 assists, 2.3 boards, 1.1 steals and 1.3 treys for the Pelicans last season. With Mo Williams retiring, Douglas will now compete with Kay Felder for the backup role behind Kyrie Irving. In terms of fantasy, Douglas isn't worth drafting in most formats, but could have some sneaky DFS value whenever Kyrie sits. It's not a guaranteed deal, but we'd be surprised if Douglas didn't make the team. In order to make room for Douglas, the Cavs waived Eric Moreland.
Oct 3 - 11:59 AM

The Pelicans have reportedly waived Toney Douglas.

Douglas had some nice moments with New Orleans down the stretch of the 2015-16 season when a majority of the team was injured, but with the additions of E'Twaun Moore, Langstong Galloway and Buddy Hield, Douglas became expendable. He shouldn't have any trouble landing another NBA contract, but it's tough to see him landing in a situation that will allow him to command standard league value.
Jul 12 - 6:12 PM

Toney Douglas made 6-of-13 FGs and 8-of-8 FTs to finish Wednesday's road loss with 22 points, four rebounds, five assists, four steals and a pair of 3-pointers in 42 minutes.

Douglas is averaging 21.0 points and 2.2 triples in his past five games, a strong finish aided by unchallenged minutes in New Orleans' thinned-out backcourt. This game was a fitting finale for the Pelicans, who used 41 different starting lineups and lost more than 340 games due to injuries this season.
Apr 14 - 12:49 AM

Toney Douglas stayed hot on Monday vs. the Bulls, scoring 21 points (8-of-13 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs) with three assists, two boards, one steal and three 3-pointers in 33 minutes.

This was also Douglas' fourth game in a row with 19 or more points. The Pelicans have had a nightmare season, but you have to respect what guys like Douglas, Tim Frazier, Luke Babbitt and James Ennis have been able to do down the stretch. The Pelicans are down to eight healthy bodies, so Douglas is worth deploying in all lineups for Wednesday's game vs. the Wolves to finish out the season.
Apr 11 - 10:49 PM

Toney Douglas scored 23 points with two rebounds, five assists, one steal and three 3-pointers during a 121-100 loss to the Suns on Saturday.

That's back-to-back games with at least 20 points as basically the team's go-to scorer. Douglas does have two more favorable matchups on the horizon against the Bulls and Wolves. He'll be a popular target in DFS for those two games and has arguably been the best guard fantasy add in the past month. The Pelicans losing this game makes them very likely to be the sixth position in the lottery.
Apr 9 - 9:39 PM

The Pelicans will start Toney Douglas, James Ennis, Dante Cunningham, Alexis Ajinca, and Omer Asik against the Suns on Saturday.

The Pelicans will go big here against Alex Len and Tyson Chandler. The starting lineup doesn't really matter much, so don't let this dissuade you from using Tim Frazier and/or Luke Babbitt.
Apr 9 - 6:31 PM

Toney Douglas scored 20 points with six rebounds, four assists, one steal and one 3-pointer in 33 minutes against the Lakers on Friday.

Shockingly, the Pelicans used the same starting lineup for two games in a row. Douglas' price has come up a bit in DFS, but he's still a nice play in the right matchup. If you need scoring, he should be owned in most of those instances.
Apr 9 - 1:42 AM

Toney Douglas will come off the bench for Friday's game against the Lakers.

It'll be Tim Frazier replacing Douglas in the starting five, but how these guys enter the game is pretty much meaningless with how banged up New Orleans is. Douglas should still see plenty of minutes off the bench, and is worth deploying as usual. James Ennis, Dante Cunningham, Alexis Ajinca and Omer Asik will join Frazier in the starting five for tonight's game.

Toney Douglas scored 20 points against the Nuggets on Thursday with three rebounds, 10 assists and three 3-pointers in 36 minutes.

It's just the second 20-plus scoring and 10-plus dime game of his career. The Pelicans are not likely going to get Norris Cole (back) and coach Alvin Gentry said nothing has changed with Cole. Douglas has been filling it up over his last five, averaging 14.4 points, 3.2 boards, 4.4 assists, 1.0 steals and 2.4 treys. He should be owned in standard leagues as long as you're OK with sub-par field goal percentage.
Apr 1 - 1:00 AM

Toney Douglas will start vs. the Spurs on Wednesday.

It's a logical move with Jrue Holiday (eye) out of commission, and both Douglas and Tim Frazier should see plenty of minutes as the Pelicans' lead PGs. Douglas is worth a look as a guy who can chip in steady points and 3-pointers with a trickle of assists and steals.
Mar 30 - 8:33 PM

Toney Douglas scored 16 points with five rebounds, two assists and two 3-pointers against the Knicks on Monday.

He moved back to the bench with Jrue Holiday (eye) returning, but Holiday got hurt yet again. Douglas should be able to score in the teens with some 3-pointers, so give him a look if you're looking to bolster those categories.
