Dante Cunningham (elbow) had seven points, nine rebounds, one steal, one block and one 3-pointer vs. the Grizzlies on Wednesday.
He hurt his right elbow in the first quarter and headed into the locker room, but soon returned. Presumably he got a clean bill of health from the training staff, because he wound up playing 26 minutes and didn't seem visibly limited. We'll leave him off the injury report ahead of Friday's game vs. Golden State. Oct 19 - 1:49 AM

Date:

Dante Cunningham (right elbow) returned to Wednesday's game in the second quarter.

The Pelicans' thin wing rotation can't absorb too many injuries -- Darius Miller, Tony Allen and Jordan Crawford would absorb extra minutes if Cunningham misses time this season.
Oct 18 - 8:40 PM

Dante Cunningham (hip) started Sunday's game and had two points, two assists and one rebound in 26 minutes of action.

The veteran's recent hip flexor injury obviously isn't a big concern, and coach Alvin Gentry said he expects Cunningham to start at SF on opening night. Even a starting role isn't a guarantee that he'll help typical fantasy owners, however -- in 35 starts last season, he averaged a modest 6.8 points, 1.2 threes, 4.6 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.5 blocks.
Oct 8 - 9:54 PM

According to coach Alvin Gentry, Dante Cunningham will likely be the starting small forward.

This is Alvin Gentry we're talking about, so fantasy owners probably saw this coming. Cunningham offers very little upside in fantasy and won't be on the standard-league radar even if he keeps the job. It's hard to imagine anyone in New Orleans offering consistent fantasy value right out of the gate other than Jrue Holiday, Rajon Rondo, DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis.

Dante Cunningham did not play in the Saturday scrimmage due to a hip flexor injury.

It doesn't sound serious, but the Pelicans are paper thin at the small forward spot. Cunningham had a hip injury last season, but it was only a contusion and it's likely unrelated here. He has a chance to start and should get minutes at both forward spots. Cunningham still isn't worth drafting in fantasy.

Dante Cunningham has agreed to re-sign with the Pelicans on a one-year deal worth $2.3 million, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical.

The Timberwolves were reportedly aggressively pursuing Cunningham, but he probably has a better chance of being a regular part of the rotation in New Orleans, so that may have influenced his decision process. Cunningham could potentially start at the three-spot for the Pelicans with Solomon Hill (hamstring) essentially done for the year, but even as a starter, Cunningham won't be a fantasy factor in most leagues.
Sep 19 - 3:04 PM

Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor has spoken directly with free agent Dante Cunningham and the Wolves are awaiting his decision.

Cunningham is arguably the top unrestricted free agent still left on the open market. It sounds like he's deciding between the Wolves, Bucks and Pelicans. Training camp starts in less than a week, so we should have a final answer in the next day or so.
Sep 19 - 11:24 AM

The Bucks are interested in free agent forward Dante Cunningham.

The Bucks might be a little late to the party because the Wolves are putting the "full-court press" on their recruiting efforts for Cunningham. Darren Wolfson of ESPN also said that he's not expecting Cunningham to join the Bucks. Regardless of where he lands, he shouldn't be on any draft boards in standard leagues.
Sep 18 - 10:00 AM

The Timberwolves are reportedly putting the "full-court press" on their recruiting efforts towards Dante Cunningham.

The Wolves have an open roster spot and they're clearly high on Cunningham, but they also can only offer the minimum and he wouldn't be in a great spot for minutes as he'd be competing for playing time with the likes of Taj Gibson, Nemanja Bjelica and Shabazz Muhammad. The Pelicans and Bucks are also rumored to have interest in Cunningham, but he won't be a fantasy factor on any of these teams.
Sep 13 - 1:43 PM

The Wolves are still interested in Dante Cunningham according to beat reporter Darren Wolfson.

The Bucks and Pelicans have also been linked to Cunningham recently. Even after re-signing Shabazz Muhammad, the Wolves only have 12 guaranteed contracts, so they're looking to fill out their bench. The most Minnesota can offer is a minimum deal, and he wouldn't have much fantasy value there as he'd be playing behind Gorgui Dieng, Taj Gibson and Nemanja Bjelica (foot).
Sep 12 - 8:54 PM

The Bucks are reportedly interested in signing free agent Dante Cunningham.

Milwaukee has an oper roster spot after waiving Spencer Hawes. However, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski‏ reported earlier in the week that the Pelicans and Wolves are also in pursuit of Cunningham, who is one of the more attractive free agents still left on the market. Cunningham will likely have to accept a deal at or near the minimum, but he'll be able to choose which situation suits him best.
Sep 1 - 12:50 PM

The Pelicans and Timberwolves have reportedly engaged in a bidding war over unrestricted free agent Dante Cunningham.

Cunningham has spent the past three seasons in New Orleans and the Pelicans would like to re-sign him, but apparently, Tom Thibodeau is trying to lure him away from Louisiana. In terms of fantasy hoops, it really won't matter where he winds up, as he won't be a significant part of the rotation at either location.
Aug 29 - 6:25 PM

The Timberwolves have reportedly expressed interest in free agent Dante Cunningham.

Cunningham opted out of a $3.1 million player option for the 2017-18 campaign and expected to get a raise after turning in a solid 2016-17 season. He averaged 6.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and a career-high 1.1 3-pointers. Cunningham also shot a career-high 39.2 percent from 3-point territory. Given his ability to defend multiple positions and knock down corner treys, it is surprising he has yet to secure a contract for next season.
Jul 21 - 11:23 AM

ESPN is reporting that the Knicks are interested in pending free agent Dante Cunningham.

Cunningham will be looking for a raise after earning just $2.9 million last season. Known as a versatile defender, Cunningham showed he was also a capable 3-point shooter last season. He averaged 1.1 treys per game while shooting a team-high 39.2 percent from the floor in 2016-17

May 23 - 1:50 PM

ESPN is reporting that Dante Cunningham plans to decline his player option and become unrestricted free agent this summer.

An unsurprising development, as Cunningham's option for the 2017-18 season was worth only $3.1 million. He appeared in 66 games (including 35 starts) for the Pelicans last season and averaged 6.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and a career-high 1.1 3-pointers. A reliable and versatile veteran, Cunningham should have plenty of suitors interested in his services come July.
