The Heat have acquired Luke Babbitt from the Pelicans in exchange for a 2018 second-round pick and cash considerations.
The pick going to New Orleans is protected 1-55 in 2018, so Miami essentially gets the sixth-year sniper for money. There's no fantasy value to be had here. Jul 10 - 6:36 PM

Date:

The Heat are reportedly in "advanced discussions" to acquire Luke Babbitt for draft considerations and cash.

Babbitt would help backup the small forward and power forward positions in Miami, but his fantasy value would be close to nil in all leagues.
Jul 10 - 6:11 PM

Luke Babbitt (illness) will not play against the Wolves on Wednesday.

Well, the Pelicans are just a tad shorthanded. We should see a ton of the red-hot James Ennis tonight along with more Dante Cunningham and Jordan Hamilton.
Apr 13 - 5:51 PM

Luke Babbitt moved into the starting lineup on Monday vs. the Bulls, but he finished with just seven points, five boards and four assists in 35 minutes.

It was the James Ennis show tonight and Babbitt never really got into a rhythm. He was just 2-of-10 from the field and missed both of his 3-pointers while turning the ball over three times. Babbitt did put up averages of 17.0 points, 5.8 boards, 3.4 assists and 2.0 3-pointers in his previous five games, so it makes sense to stick with him for the Pelicans' final game of the season on Wednesday vs. the Wolves.
Apr 11 - 10:38 PM

Luke Babbitt will enter the starting lineup on Monday vs. the Bulls.

Alexis Ajinca (shoulder) is out, so Babbitt will join Toney Douglas, James Ennis, Dante Cunningham and Omer Asik in the first unit. Babbitt is averaging 17.0 points, 5.8 boards, 3.4 assists and 2.0 3-pointers over his last five games.
Apr 11 - 7:15 PM

Luke Babbitt scored 17 points with nine rebounds, two assists and no turnovers in 34 minutes against the Suns on Saturday.

He's played at least 31 minutes in four of his five April games, averaging 17.0 points, 5.8 boards, 3.4 assists, 2.0 treys and 0.2 blocks. Babbitt is surprisingly worth owning in standard leagues.
Apr 9 - 9:34 PM

Luke Babbitt returned to the Pelicans bench vs. the Celtics, posting 16 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two 3-pointers and zero turnovers in 33 minutes.

Babbitt is taking advantage of an expanded role for the decimated Pelicans, averaging 18.8 points, 2.3 triples, 6.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists in his past four games. He won't give you many defensive stats and his low shooting percentages take a toll, but he's worth a long look given the Pelicans' endemic injury problems.
Apr 6 - 10:47 PM

Luke Babbitt will return to the bench for Wednesday's game against the Celtics.

Omer Asik will earn the start in his place tonight, but given that Asik has been losing minutes to Kendrick Perkins as of late, his starter tag essentially means nothing. Babbitt has been playing very well over the past two weeks, owning averages of 14.1 points, 4.6 boards, 2.9 assists and 1.6 triples per contest, and he should be able to see quality minutes tonight regardless of how he enters the game.
Apr 6 - 6:28 PM

Luke Babbitt started and had 16 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two 3-pointers in Tuesday's loss to the Sixers.

Babbitt has scored in double figures in six straight games and in eight of his last nine, and it looks like he'll be starting for the Pelicans the rest of the way. If you don't want to spend big money on the LeBron's and Durant's of the world, Babbitt looks like a solid, cheap option in all formats right now.
Apr 5 - 9:41 PM

Luke Babbitt scored a game-high 21 points against the Nets on Sunday, adding one rebound, four assists, one block and three 3-pointers.

He's looked great on the wing. Babbitt figures to be the primary scorer for the Pelicans the rest of the way, so he should be owned in standard leagues right now. Yeah, April NBA is weird.
Apr 3 - 5:11 PM

Luke Babbitt had team-highs 22 points and 10 rebounds during a 101-95 win over the Nuggets on Thursday, adding three assists, two steals, one block and two 3-pointers in 36 minutes.

It's just the second double-double of his career as Babbitt really took advantage of the Nuggets going small. Babbitt did play just 19 minutes on Wednesday, so he'll likely fall in between his minute totals in his last two going forward. Babbitt has nice upside for 3-pointers, so he's worth a look for those with something to cut. He has a handful of nice matchups the rest of the way, too.
Apr 1 - 1:06 AM

Luke Babbitt will return to the starting lineup for Thursday's game against the Nuggets, sending Alexis Ajinca back to the bench.

Babbitt should be able to flirt with close to 30 minutes tonight with the move back into the starting five, and with a favorable matchup against the Nuggets, he can be viewed as a low-end streamer option or punt play in DFS. Ajinca's value will take a slight hit with the demotion to the second unit, but with such little depth on the Pelicans' roster, he should still be able to see his playing time in the 20s.
Mar 31 - 6:59 PM

Luke Babbitt came off the bench on Wednesday, making 4-of-7 shots to finish with 10 points, two rebounds and two assists in 19 minutes.

The Pelicans needed some semblance of scoring off the bench, which may have prompted the move from coach Alvin Gentry, who has minimal wiggle-room with so many injured players. Babbitt has been returning late-round value as a source of scoring and 3-pointers over the past few weeks, and should continue to do so with both Jrue Holiday (orbital fracture) and Alonzo Gee (torn quad) done for the season.
Mar 31 - 12:25 AM

Luke Babbitt will shift to a bench role vs. the Spurs on Wednesday.

The Pelicans are starting Toney Douglas, Jordan Hamilton, Dante Cunningham, Alexis Ajinca and Omer Asik tonight. Babbitt should still play minutes in the 20s which is enough for late-round value if you're in need of points and 3-pointers.
Mar 30 - 8:46 PM

Luke Babbitt scored 14 points during a 99-91 win over the Knicks on Monday, adding four rebounds, two assists, one steal and two 3-pointers in 24 minutes.

Yes, that's starting shooting guard Luke Babbitt and that will likely continue. The Pelicans are running out of scorers, so Babbitt could get close to 30 minutes with a usage rate in the low 20s. He's still just Luke Babbitt, but he'll be a sneaky pickup if Jrue Holiday (eye) and Alonzo Gee (quad) are ruled out. This was also the Pelicans 36th different starting lineup of the season.
