Kevin Seraphin (knee surgery) will be ready when training camp opens in September.
The Wizards chose not to release Seraphin to play in the FIBA World Cup of Basketball so that the 24-year-old will have time to recover from a minor procedure to clean out his right knee. Once healthy, Seraphin will join a crowded Wizards frontcourt of Nene, Marcin Gortat, Kris Humphries, and DeJuan Blair and fantasy owners would be wise to look elsewhere during drafts. Kevin Seraphin (knee) will not play in this summer's FIBA World Cup of Basketball.

Team France announced on Wednesday that Seraphin has not been released to play in the World Cup by the Washington Wizards as he hasn't fully recovered from arthroscopic surgery on his knee. Seraphin only averaged 4.7 points and 2.4 rebounds with the Wizards last season and will be hard-pressed to make a fantasy impact playing behind Marcin Gortat, Nene, and DeJuan Blair.

Kevin Seraphin signed a $3.8 million offer sheet to stay with the Wizards.

There isn't much of a chance for Seraphin and he'll be buried on the bench. He has been a project for them the past couple years and is unlikely to see major minutes.
Jul 18 - 7:04 PM

The Wizards would like to bring back restricted free agent Kevin Seraphin, but at less money than his qualifying offer.

The Wizards extended Seraphin a $3.89 qualifying offer, but would like to bring him back at a lesser yearly value on a longer deal, according to J. Michael of CSN Washington. The Wizards have a crowded frontcourt with Marcin Gortat, Nene, and newly-acquired DeJuan Blair, so there is a chance they they end up renouncing their rights to the 24-year-old if they can't agree to more team-friendly terms. Serpahin has potential, but only averaged 4.7 points and 2.4 rebounds in just under 11 minutes per game last season, so his fantasy value is limited barring a change of scenery.
Jul 17 - 10:10 AM

The Wizards extended a $3.9 million qualifying offer to Kevin Seraphin, making him a restricted free agent.

This is a significant bet on Seraphin's future development, despite his regression last season -- he averaged only 4.7 points and 2.4 rebounds in 10.9 minutes per game behind starting C Marcin Gortat. The Wizards are eager to re-sign Gortat in free agency, so a change of scenery might be Seraphin's best chance to salvage some fantasy appeal in 2014-15.
Jul 1 - 4:51 PM

The Wizards will have to decide by Monday whether to make Kevin Seraphin a restricted free agent by extending a $3.9 million qualifying to him.

Seraphin dealt with a knee injury last season and even fell out of the rotation, although he's talented enough that the Wizards are expected to pull the trigger and make the offer on Monday.
Jun 28 - 10:17 PM

Kevin Seraphin will play for France in the 2014 FIBA World Cup.

Last season Seraphin elected to sit out of the national competition and work on his game stateside, France then went on to win the tournament. "At the end of the day, my mindset is everything I do I try to do [without] regret because regret is one of the worst feelings," Seraphin said. "No regret. I'm happy for them what they did last summer. Now it would be good if we did the same things this summer." Seraphin showed promise during his 2012-13 campaign, but regressed substantially this season. He may be able to help his French national team, but he's not much of a fantasy option playing behind Nene and Marcin Gortat.
May 26 - 6:16 PM

Kevin Seraphin moved back to the bench with Marcin Gortat (back) active, playing one minute against the Lakers on Friday.

The Wizards have been holding his hand since training camp and they're probably about ready to give up on him as a reliable player in their rotation. Seraphin can be cut in basically all leagues with how Drew Gooden has stepped it up.
Mar 22 - 4:30 AM

Kevin Seraphin started in place of Marcin Gortat (back) on Thursday at Portland, playing 19 minutes for four points, two boards and two blocks on 2-of-7 from the field.

He was fine to start the game, but he just looked out of shape as the game went on. Seraphin probably didn't do enough to move ahead of Trevor Booker or Drew Gooden once Gortat comes back, so he's really just a fill-in. Gortat's injury sounds like a day-to-day issue and the fact that Seraphin couldn't get off the bench on Tuesday doesn't bode well for him.
Mar 21 - 12:33 AM

Kevin Seraphin is starting against the Blazers on Thursday in place of Marcin Gortat (back).

He didn't even get off the bench on Tuesday, so the Wizards might not count on him much. Seraphin was playing well just before Nene (knee) went down, so tonight is a massive opportunity for him.
Mar 20 - 10:21 PM

Kevin Seraphin (knee) returned to the court on Friday and played seven minutes.

Seraphin hit 2-of-3 shots for four points and two boards, and until he shows he can play double-digit minutes he has no fantasy value even with Nene out.
Mar 15 - 1:07 AM

Kevin Seraphin (knee) is available to play against the Bobcats on Wednesday.

He's missed seven games with knee soreness and there has been no word of anything structurally wrong. The return of Seraphin makes the power forward spot even murkier with Drew Gooden and Trevor Booker, so most fantasy owners may want to steer clear here. We'll let you know how he fares tonight after logging 25 games in his last game on Feb. 23.
Mar 12 - 5:42 PM

Kevin Seraphin (knee) practiced fully on Tuesday and he's probable to return to action vs. Charlotte on Wednesday.

Seraphin hasn't played in three weeks and his minutes will likely be limited at first, but he's worth keeping an eye on if you want to pluck a center off the waiver wire. Al Harrington, Drew Gooden and Chris Singleton have been backing up starters Marcin Gortat and Trevor Booker, and it's not far-fetched to imagine Seraphin carving out a substantial role off the bench.
Mar 11 - 3:04 PM

Kevin Seraphin (knee) will not play against the Heat on Monday.

He's been out since Feb. 23 and there is still no timetable for him to return. Seraphin is dealing with knee soreness, so it's a surprise to see him out for so long without a particular diagnosis. Drew Gooden has come on while Trevor Booker has faded in the starting lineup.
Mar 10 - 6:17 PM

Kevin Seraphin will miss Saturday's game with a lingering knee injury.

He hasn't played in six straight games as Trevor Booker continues to solidify his spot in the rotation. The eventual return of Seraphin will hurt Booker's production, but for now, Booker is a decent play in most leagues.
