Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak confirmed that signing a center was a priority in free agency.
"From the beginning, it was a priority for us to get a big player," Kupchak said. "I’m not going to tell you who the first, second or third or fourth (option) was. But clearly we were aggressive at the center position." It's hard to imagine anyone except Hassan Whiteside was option number one, but the Lakers ultimately wound up betting on Mozgov and are certain to be under the microscope for their gamble. Timofey Mozgov said the Lakers promised him a bigger role when he signed with the team.

While Mozgov didn't finish his Cavaliers tenure with a big role, Lakers head coach Luke Walton has promised him a significant role in Los Angeles. "He said I’m going to play a lot. I really like it," Mozgov said. "He said I’m going to be a big part of the team on the offensive and defensive end." Mozgov only averaged 6.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks in 17.4 minutes with the Cavaliers last season, but he will be worth a late-round flier if the Lakers make good on their promise and give him more than 25 minutes per game.

The Lakers and Timofey Mozgov have agreed to a four-year, $65 million deal, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.

He's the first unrestricted deal to get done, which is saying something for a guy who saw four DNP-CDs in the final 10 games of the postseason. The Lakers really needed a center, so this is what they believed his market value would be. Mozgov's annual average salary will in the neighborhood of John Wall, who voiced his displeasure about Reggie Jackson matching his pay. Obviously, these contracts will be huge this month. Expect Mozgov to get more minutes with the Lakers than with the Cavs.
Jul 1 - 1:15 AM

The Lakers are making a serious run at free agent center Timofey Mozgov according to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.

The Lakers only have one center under contract in rookie Ivica Zubac, so this would be a nice landing spot for Mozgov. With that said, Mozgov looked like a shell of himself in Cleveland last season and eventually fell out of the rotation, posting averages of 6.3 points, 4.4 boards and 0.8 blocks in 17.4 minutes. Wojnarowski is reporting that the Lakers are in serious talks on the framework of a four-year, $65 million deal.
Jul 1 - 12:10 AM

Timofey Mozgov is drawing interest from the Cavs, Rockets, Heat, Warriors and Spurs, sources told ESPN's Dave McMenamin.

Mozgov was absolutely awful in 2015-16 and it's likely that all of these teams view the big man as a low-rent insurance policy at best. He's not going to be on the fantasy radar unless something very unexpected happens.
Jun 30 - 3:56 PM

The Knicks are reportedly interested in Timofey Mozgov, according to Ian Begley of ESPN.

Mozgov is an unrestricted free agent this summer and Begley reports there is mutual interest between he and the Knicks. The 29-year-old could provide the Knicks with a lower-cost alternative to Joakim Noah, but he won't have much fantasy value in standard fantasy leagues no matter where he signs.

Tyronn Lue hinted that Timofey Mozgov could see a larger role in the rotation for Game 3.

"Timo has to be ready," Lue said. "There is a chance and an opportunity for him to play. We’ve talked about that as a staff." Mozgov's playing time will likely be determined by the status of Kevin Love (concussion), but if Love is unavailable for Game 3, that could potentially open up some more minutes for Mozzy. Stay tuned.

Cavaliers GM David Griffin said there is nothing wrong with Timofey Mozgov's knee.

"There is nothing wrong with the knee," Griffin said. "He's had no swelling, recurrent issues relative to the surgery. We have to almost throw him off the court after practice because he just wants to keep working. If you have issues with your knee, you would not do that." Mozgov picked up a DNP-CD in Game 3 and has been a major disappointment all season. He will be a free agent this summer and it's safe to say that his price is dropping by the day.
Apr 23 - 10:51 AM

Timofey Mozgov struggled in nine minutes vs. the Pistons on Wednesday, going scoreless with zero rebounds and two turnovers.

Mozgov has a net-rating of -8.3 when paired with the Cavs' three stars this season, and the playoffs aren't the time to feed him minutes as a confidence-builder. He was no better tonight, missing easy layups, committing needless offensive fouls, and struggling to defend pick-and-rolls all night long. Cleveland has had success going small vs. the Pistons and it wouldn't be surprising to see Mozgov pick up some DNPs in the near future.
Apr 20 - 11:07 PM

Timofey Mozgov started the second half of Wednesday's game and racked up 14 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and two blocks, while making 7-of-12 field goals in 37 minutes.

Tristan Thompson was rested for all but a few seconds and this has zero implications going forward. Mozgov might start in the first round to combat the size of Andre Drummond, but he's still not an appealing fantasy target.
Apr 13 - 11:47 PM

Timofey Mozgov moved to the bench on Saturday and played eight minutes, scoring two points with one block and zero rebounds.

He's one of the most disappointing players in the league after looking like a solid center in the NBA Finals last season. The Cavs probably want to start Tristan Thompson at center during the postseason, so Mozgov isn't a fantasy option in any format at the moment.
Apr 9 - 11:44 PM

Timofey Mozgov will come off the bench against the Bulls on Saturday.

He has very little value to begin with, so Mozgov shouldn't be on fantasy rosters.
Apr 9 - 7:56 PM

Timofey Mozgov will start on Monday vs. the Nuggets, sending Iman Shumpert back to the bench.

Revenge game? Probably not. Mozgov is averaging 13.5 minutes over his last four games and is not a fantasy option.
Mar 21 - 6:40 PM

Timofey Mozgov did not play vs. the Mavericks on Wednesday.

Mozzy is a negligible fantasy player no matter where he begins the game -- he has one double-double all season and is averaging just 18.3 minutes as a starter. Tonight's DNP-CD was a consequence of the Mavericks' small-ball attack, but it's a stark reminder of Mozgov's tenuous role.
Mar 16 - 10:57 PM

Timofey Mozgov will return to the bench for Wednesday's game against the Mavs.

Mozgov is irrelevant in most leagues regardless of how he enters the game. Tristan Thompson will move into the starting five tonight, and he's the center to own in Cleveland.
